are.

1) How is the new Pepe Bradock mix of Greenskeepers?
2) Why are there always pretty girls at train stations (any pretty girls
out there can write in and let us know?)
3) How is the new Aril Brikha record?
4) Why does Boomkat describe the new dark comedy 12 as much better than
the LP, when its taken from the LP?

No prizes unfortunately today folks, but please send answers to the usual
address.

Kind Regards,

(Sorry, I don't have any answers Alex, and I'm just as curious about
number 2 meself! Isn't it just like any summer afternoon/evening

That's a strange one from Boomkat. Perhaps whoever wrote it is
'forgetting' this year's CD LP and referring to Kenny Larkin's
'Narcissist' LP on Peacefrog last year?

Incidentally, I don't think that that was so bad although it takes some
time to get to know and is not so dance-floor orientated as 'Funkfaker'.

This may come through twice by the way

In response to all the recent posts discussing over expensive italio disco
records or rare Clarence Gs I thought Id just post a little ebay story of my
own that really dumbfounded me.

A good friend of mine is friends with he brother of one of the guys from
that G4 band (for those that dont know they are a new UK boy band cashing in
on the current trend for fusing opera and pop music and recent winners of
some pop idol style TV show). The guy released a solo album on CD about 3
years ago before they won X-factor which sold about 500 copies. My friend
managed to get hold of one of these CDs, stuck it on Ebay and it finally
sold yesterday for £800! A commercially released CD from 3 years ago! Im
doing my best to try and blag myself a signed copy of it at the moment to
fund a new house!!

Ridiculous

extra time on the clock to answer the questions?

however, you have qualified for the losers prize - no one goes home empty
handed from this show. You have won the MAD MIKE RUBBER COMMEMORATIVE LTD

you have the time it takes the board to revolve to decide to claim your

I hope you have enjoyed your day at 313 quiz towers.

Pretty girls are _everywhere_. I see loads of them working in the
hospital -- along with the lame, the dying, the deformed and the
morbidly obese. Since I'm old, married, and not a babe magnet, I've
learned to take my pleasure ogling girls as a strictly visual thing.
It's like visiting an art museum.

London, of course is a great place for rubbernecking girls. Not the
least because you see a lot of girls whose grandparents all come from
different continents. There may be ugly mixed-race children out
there, but I'm not seeing them!

Loads of pretty girls at Fuse-In every year too -- though I've a bit
of advice for some: Breast implants just make you look weird, ladies.
Believe me with a face like that, why post two distractions just below
it? I like a nice breast as much as the next man but give me a girl
the way god made her any day over a freakishly boobed skinny girl
rocking double ds.

RE: (313) Lost Sunday 28th August 2005

2005-07-15 Thread Nik Stoltzman
Mills keeps reappearing at Lost as much as that infected rash I have on
my... well, that is to say, um, anyway :D

Maybe he feels guilty and is making up for all those years of
self-imposed exile? I seem to remember quite a few UK-ers whining about
him not playing here for so many years.

Believe me with a face like that, why post two distractions just below
it? I like a nice breast as much as the next man but give me a girl
the way god made her any day over a freakishly boobed skinny girl
rocking double ds.

there is at least once-a-year demand for him in detroit, and thats extremely
conservative. if richie hawtin can pack any place in detroit a couple times a
year, surely mills can. not to mention the tools like bad boy bill and richard
(humpy) vision (or wtf it is) that play here regularly, and probably pack clubs
with the kind of people that make you wish the venue would get sucked into a
black hole.

Well, it must have something to do with his long-lasting relationship with
Lost. I mean he's been playing there for over a decade, and even did things
like that first Space Bass @ Bridge Tunnel for £5 entry, so it must (at least
partially) be due to the strength of the relationship. How many Detroit
promoters have been throwing parties that would book Jeff Mills (consistently)
over the last ten years? The same is almost as true of Rob Hood (who actually
lives in Detroit rather than splitting time between Chicago and Berlin), no?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Lost must be one of the longest-running parties in
the world (if not the longest at almost 14 years) that cater to Detroit techno.

Tristan

Re: Re: (313) Lost Sunday 28th August 2005

2005-07-15 Thread Kent Williams
Mills doesn't play anywhere in the US very often. I don't know the man
so I only have second-hand accounts of why this is, which nevertheless
are quite plausible.

#1 -- and probably the most important: In Europe, the sort of people
who hire him are experienced professionals, who set up events in a
competent and straightforward fashion. He has pleasant and mutually
beneficial relationships with those people. I'm sure there are
exceptions to this, but they only book him once.

Present company excepted of course, this is not the case in the United
States. By and large promoters in the US are either incompent yet
idealistic post-ravers trying to re-live the early 90s, or out and out
criminals.

#2 -- Mills' management very successfully insulate him from a lot of
the people who are interested in booking him in the US. If you see
Mills playing in the US you can be certain that it came about through
the efforts of people who he knows well enough that they can talk to
him directly, bypassing his management.

#3 -- Mills doesn't have to play here to earn a living. I don't know
the man, but I think when he's here in the US, he's tending to Axis
business and living well below the radar. It's probably a nice break
from the hero treatment he gets in Europe and Japan, which can no
doubt be exhausting.

#4 - As for Detroit, specifically, the last thing I heard about was
the State Theatre show that got canceled for lack of ticket sales.
That has to rankle.

It's probably a nice break
from the hero treatment he gets in Europe and Japan, which can no
 doubt be exhausting.

the State Theatre show that got canceled for lack of ticket sales.

correct, that one was cancelled. supposedly due to poor pre-sales,

kent your other points are very well taken. if you've ever spoken to
frederick you know booking mills is like booking a major rock band;
AND he's generally very unpleasant. some kids who want to have a
party [dude] aren't going to get anywhere with him. i think there is
also some degree of jeff doesn't have faith in party/club goers in
this country and largely just wants to avoid the whole thing. i'm
sure that part would never be admitted to. but in the last decade in
north america pretty much the only place he has played is NYC, save a
handful of detroit things, the mini US tour he did last summer, and
richie's Sickness party in 1996. plus he has said on a number of
occasions that when he's in detroit/chicago, he just wants to
relax... as you said.

I will say, Jeff played in the park in Chicago, maybe three weeks ago and
seemed to have a GREAT time! The park was quite crowded, and everyone in the
dance area was getting down.

While the set he played was a little mainstream/clubby for my tastes, it had
some very good moments, the mixing was ON, and he was SMILING and seemed really
HAPPY to be there, which was unexpected for some of us. I hope this experience
might lead to a slightly improved view of US audiences? I think he definitely
got a lot of love at the show.

I think that and the agents of change party were the only two shows he's done

A new Pheek collection was released on Thinnerism today. This is just one of
many examples of why Thinnerism is my favorite netlabel. Great minimal-ish
techno with a nice remix of one of the tracks, Dub Trail, thrown in for
good measure.

Anyone else peep it?

Indeed, new (well, sort of) Pheek material is always welcome!

I encourage people to check out his side project/label called Archipel. The
idea is to create music from the sample packs (many of which were created by
Pheek himself) that are made available on the label's website:
