(313) Dutch Music
Can anyone think of any cruisy Dutch music at the moment? I know an Australian label putting together a compilation and they want some names.

They don't know/care much about house or techno classics, and the majority seem to live in NYC -- but hey you can't have it all. ;) Most lists need a focus to be any good.. this is right on the edge of being too broad, yet with this era of music you kind of have to discuss it in context to have it make sense, when you consider the musical melting pot of these genres around that time where electro, disco and punk all met on a dark streetcorner to chug a bottle of cheap wine before trying to sneak into each others club nights. It's pretty quiet till someone asks a question, then all the headz come out of the woodwork to one-up each other on the most correct answer... that part can get annoying, sure, but all in all, it's too informative for me to unsub or stop contributing myself. It's pretty irreverent which i also like. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ElectroDiscoPunks/ EDP was started by the owner of the Miami Bass history list, incidentally. peace -- MM http://sonicsunset.com

Intimate space , maximum Quality ! here is a detailed blurb on the artists involved on the night ! JEFF MILLIGAN aka ALGORITHM . In 1986, at the age of 14, Jeff Milligan (aka :Algorithm) had his first exposure to electronic music via some of Chicago, Detroit and Toronto's earliest alternative radio programs. A year later in 1987, Jeff decided to dedicate his life to DJing and producing music. His close proximity to the Great Lakes Triangle : Toronto, Chicago and Detroit, led Jeff to develop a foremost influence from the early years of American house and techno. As Jeff delved deeper, he developed a keen interest in various German and British artists and record labels. The music Jeff played at the time and still does to this day, has a dual, continental European and American influence, the more experimental, more minimal sound of the two continents, the origins of what evolved into a unique Canadian sound. Jeff was the first DJ to expose a Canadian audience to his unique brand of techno and house music selections, preceded only by Richie Hawtin. Jeff's highly technical, three turntable style put him in high demand across North America and by the age of twenty, Jeff was playing the Midwest circuit (Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland etc.) and nationwide, all over Canada. Jeff is legendarily regarded by his contemporaries as one the most technically talented DJ's in the world. By 1999, Jeff began touring the European circuit and by 2002, toured Japan. Jeff has since performed in almost every major city in Europe, North America, and Japan, spanning the globe, maintaining a rigorous tour schedule, DJ'ing and performing live at the world's finest venues in support of the music he loves. He has headlined alongside almost every prolific producer to have graced the electronic music stage in the past decade. Jeff's own musical compositions have also had considerable impact on the world and he is highly regarded as a musician as well as a DJ. Jeff's last full length album project, Composure (Force Inc., Germany) features Jeff's recomposed work of some of the world's most prolific artists including : Farben (Klang Elektronik), Matmos (Bjork), Kid 606 (Tigerbeat), Sutekh (Context), Twerk (Force Inc.), Safety Scissors (Proptronix) and Donacha Costello. Jeff's DJ production work for +8, and loops on the first Serotonin Records (NYC) lockgroove compilations, were among the first released material under Jeff's algorithm moniker. Since then, Jeff has developed a long and impressive discography with numerous releases on a variety of international record labels over the past few years, including : 240 Volts (UK), BipHop (France), Tongut (Switzerland), Transmediale (Germany), Background (Germany), NextDoor (Canada), Onitor (Germany), Mutek (Canada), Sublime (Japan), Moorroom (Italy), Traum (Germany), Force Lab (Germany), Force Inc. (Germany), Revolver (Canada), E.R.A. (Canada), Tone (Canada), Blue (Canada), Silver (Belgium), +8 (Canada), Switch (Canada/USA), Serotonin (USA). Jeff also spends considerable time on top of his whirlwind tour and production schedule curating his imprint, Revolver Canada Recordings, which he founded in 1999. The first 12 EP on Revolver (written by Jeff and former label mate Robin Roy) was met with high critical acclaim worldwide, leading to Jeff's first European tour alongside friend and future label mate, Mike Shannon. Over the past few years, Revolver Canada has released an impressive catalog, primarily consisting of Canadian artists including Montreal's Akufen, The Mole, Mike Shannon and Deadbeat, Toronto's Tomas Jirku and

(313) Mark Verbos, Jake Mandell +++ in NYC Friday 7/22
Friday July 22 ***THE BUNKER*** DOWNSTAIRS: As usual, we skipped the Winter Music Conference in Miami this year (it's really not our cup of tea at all). When everybody came back, the word on the street was that a big festival highlight was Mark Verbos's amazing acid house set using all the classic Roland hardware (TR-909, TR-707, TR-808, MC-202, and of course the TB-303). Verbos is a veteran of the early 90's midwest rave scene, where he played many Drop Bass parties, so he knows a thing or two about acid. He never looked back and has been producing great records and playing at huge parties ever since, building up a formidable discography. Check out his website for proof of all this and some nice downloads. Tonight he will be playing his live acid house set. http://www.simple-answer.com/ From New York, Skism started playing to fight the boredom and stagnation that had set in to the scene. Clearly under the influence of XTrax, UR and Hardfloor, they recorded a demo-tape which drew attention to the band and got them to play their first shows. They recorded and released the Crossover and Come To Your Senses EP (on their own RUN-ROC label) which found its way into the record bag of many acid dj's. The band continues to focus on their live set, delivering relentless techno and a positive message with their 909 and 303. http://www.run-roc.com/skism.html Sheldon is a psychedelic ambient master. Deep and dark and beautiful (and sometimes terrifying!). But he's got other tricks in his bag that rumble through rock, techno, dub, and yoga digs. He co-hosted one of the city's longest running experimental parties, Undercity, at Halcyon, with DJ Spinoza. Tonight we celebrate his birthday. http://www.sheldondrake.com/ UPSTAIRS MIDNIGHT: Jake Mandell had much success in the mid to late 90's with his productions that spanned drum'n'bass, idm, techno, ambient, and lots of cool stuff that you cannot put a genre tag on. Lately, he has been busy working on software in Europe, and doesn't get out to play live gigs so much. We're psyched to have him join us at the Bunker. http://www.orange-pink.com/ Jeffers Egan is a video artist who has worked with Jake Mandell extensively. They released the Slither DVD on K20, which De:Bug called the most advanced and brutal trip imaginable in the current field of visuals. He also produced some of the visual elements for the live Plastikman set at Mutek in 2004. http://www.jeffersegan.com/ Charles Cohen has been playing his Buchla Music Easel for 20+ years, and it's safe to say that he has completely mastered the instrument. He can basically make any noise he wants on the fly. He also has an uncanny ability to put all his bloops and bleeps in just the right place in an improv setting. Come see a master at work who truly deserves the deepest respect from all of us. http://www.voicenet.com/~ccohen/ Leisure Muffin, (Michael Hopkins), has been making electronic music since the early 90's and his style cris crosses everything from ambient to electro, hip hop, minimal house, and dub. Textures, layers, and incredible beats follow suit with recordings and performances featuring a careful mix of analog synthesizers, laptop, and live instruments. Lots of recent releases this week: U-Roy Francois K on his Deep Space imprint and a drummy dub mix of DJ Gregory's 'Head Talking' that's causing minor panic. New dark angular funk from the Citymorb label, new abstractions from Hanna on Sound Signature, and the classic Berlin+Detroit handshake by Quadrant. Part 2 after the annual extended immersion into pub's epic 'summer', deep melodic techno from reel by real and stasis sets the groove, with new music from fax and classics from detroit and chicago. after donna summer gets cut up by germany's mmm, the cool-down comes courtesy of a supreme chiller from move d.
