Re: (313) DJ BONE - ATTACK - WEEK 3
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Garrett, It would be important for some of us to be able to download these mixes due to various reasons. For me, part of it is, that at my work mp3 content is filtered at the firewall, regardless of the transport that its delivered by. So my option is to listen to it at home. But, I don't really have the time to sit down and listen to it when I'm at home (as much as I would like to). The way I've been listening to the mixes is that I download it at home to my laptop and then when I'm at work, I listen to it while I work. I've listened to the mixes a few times now. Also, if I'd listened to the two previous shows straight off your web server, that would have meant that it would have been the equivalent of about 600MB downloaded, just for one person. But since I've downloaded it to my laptop, its only been 150MB. A saving of bandwidth for both you and me. Another problem I have with streaming off webservers (depending on capacity, network conjestion, etc) is that quite often the stream will play, then buffer, then play for another 30 seconds, then buffer, lather, rinse, repeat. ;-) It really makes it hard to enjoy something, no matter how good it is. A message from DJ Bone... First of all, I just want to thank those of you who listen to and support DJ BONE and Subject Detroit. Real recognizes real. My intention was to have this show be a weekly moment in time. Once the moment us gone, so is the mix. I am not upset at any who downloaded or continue to download these mixes as long as you represent me and my art in true underground fashion. Do what you do and I will keep doing what I do. Re: (313) DJ BONE - ATTACK - WEEK 3
It's been a great series so far, from a worthwhile talent. Sooo, I can get this on my iPod how? Or are we all supposed to use our computers to have weekly solo dance parties? Or am I supposed to just wait until Bone plays at a local club? I, too, am curious about the motives for the change. My guess is that those involved would like to see an mp3 file that autodestructs after a week. -- Ian

some people want to control the music, control how and when others listen to it and what they do with it - even when it's other people's music. others just want to spread the music. but, it's no big deal - it's just somebody playing some records. it's just meant to be fun. james www.jbucknell.com
Re: (313) Re: stacey pullen in SF
This reminds me of the last time Stacey played at 177 Townsend (now gone in the wake of the ballpark redevelopment) -- he must be thinking this is what will go down with a big club crowd in San Francisco, because we know he's capable of playing so much better, Stacey was also at a King St Garage event a while back (King St is also gone, it was attached to the back of 177 Townsend and had the most obnoxious bouncers I've ever seen), and played pretty well, but then Derrick May came up and played the most awful set of hard house. It's true, San Francisco used to have a much more discriminating club crowd, but I really wish the out-of-towners would challenge them more. It does happen from time to time -- at different times I heard Richie Hawtin and Kruder Dorfmeister play quite good sets at 1015. But let's face it, things are really dire in Club Land these days. -- fred

Hi Tom, Hope you enjoy 313. Now you mention it, I'm a little uncertain now which 12 contains 'Alleys...' not this one? http://www.discogs.com/release/4878 Or maybe it's just the colour that's throwing me? I thought Cosmic Cars was on a disc with a blue label? I'll check later. Anyway, it's maybe a moot point after the Tresor repress this year? To me that sounds like a faithful cut (it might be a bit louder but it's not compressed to kingdom come). Also, as far as I can hear, all versions are the same. Ken Greetings 313. Since this is my first post, I am not sure if this wasn't asked already recently. All of a sudden I am not so sure anymore whether there is a 12 of 'Alleys Of Your Mind' on Fantasy (besides the ep from a couple of years ago). I always thought I had seen one, but since it's not on Discogs... A propos: is the 'Cosmic Cars' 12 from 82 (much) different fom the album version? Gr, Tom

Played cosmic cars Friday so I can say yes, it's on a blue label (fantasy)disc. But that's the one with all just cosmic cars (Detroit mix, short mix I think, etc.) they don't sound too different to me. More like edits. I did a mix for my girlfriend's birthday which she's opted to share with the world. It's my stab at putting down a bunch of tracks that I figured she liked, that she didn't already have, and some of it's a bit unusual for my mixes (i.e. more disco than you'd usually get). It's got Rob's tune of the Summer in it to boot. http://www.phonopsia.co.uk/mixes/BirthdayMixForHannah_06-08-05.mp3 Track list --- Fat Freddys Drop - Flashback [The Drop] Dirk Leyers - New Serious One [Kompakt] Exuma - Exuma, The Obeah Man [Soul Jazz] James Mason - Sweet Power Your Embrace [Soul Jazz] Earth, Wind Fire - Brazillian Rhyme (Danny Krivit Re-edit) [Sony Japan] Skyy - First Time Around (Larry Levan Canadian 12 Remix) [Salsoul] Osunlade presents Nadirah Shakoor - Touched My Soul [Set] Amp Fiddler - Love and War [Genuine] The Detroit Experiment - Think Twice [Planet E] Carl Craig - Sandstorms [Planet E] Omar-S - Detroit #1 [FXHE] Theo Parrish - Music [Sound Signature] Norma Jean Bell - Dreams [Peacefrog] Stateless - Leave Me Now (Brooks' Fair Light Mix) Henrik Schwarz - Marvin [Moodmusic] DJ Gregory - Elle [Faya Combo] Rima - This World (12 Version) [JCR] RSL - Wesley Music [Players] Kerri Chandler - Bar a Thym [Nite Grooves] Claro Intellecto - Peace of Mind (Electrosoul) [AI Records] Paul St. Hilaire Rene Lowe - Faith (Vox) [False Tuned] Quadrant - Infinition [Basic Channel] Depeche Mode - Behind the Wheel [Mute] Juan Atkins - I Love You [New Religion] Brooks - Tell Somebody About Us (Akufen raconte sa Version des Faits) [Soundslike] Enjoy! Re: (313) DJ BONE - ATTACK - WEEK 3
I'm having a little trouble understanding how a stream of really nasty personal invective got started in a dispute over an audio file format. As a wise man said: THINK before you post. It ain't illegal yet. Fred
Re: (313) Al Ester?
Strangely enough I asked about him just a week or so ago when Buzz and Haqq were in Glasgow- I'd always been a bit curious about him since I heard that Pod record (Al Ester is the baddest House DJ in Detroit and he says you got it goin' ON baby- classic stuff as you rightly said). He definitely still plays in Detroit and I've seen his name on billboards at least twice on trips there- he's just a name that never seems to crop up anywhere- anyone ever heard him before??? cheers Jason On 18 Aug 2005, at 23:00, Renegade808 wrote: As far as i know, Al Ester is an Oldschool house jock outta Detroit. Seems as though he was not really involved in the Techno Movement out of Detroit in the 90's , but has been a part of the Detroit club scene for years... i love the tiny little runout track on the POD record of Kenny Larkin. Its got a tape recorded phone message with some lady and Al Ester in the back round talkingits a funny little clip Al Ester is the baddest house dj in Detroit michael He's playing at a new spot here in sf on the 27th. Anyone got some info on him for me? It looks like these guys are bringing out the beatdown crew at large, Mike Clark on Sept. 10th and Norm Talley at some point.
