Re: (313) it's a rave in hart plaza
Two things... 1.) I'm really drunk after two days of drinking/football 2.) The ticket price is worth it alone to see Neil Landstrumm m 3.) I'm going to bed - Up The Blades
(313) I love it!!!
So they announce some of the DEMF lineup and all you twaty pissants can do is bitch and moan... I love it!! This means you LOVE the lineup and the festival will be a success this year, but of course don't tell anyone, it's our dirty little secret. I bet if there was also a free oral sex booth you wanks would still find a reason to moan. No pun intended. Tosh

Re: (313) it's a rave in hart plaza
I realize there's a lot of disappointment about the lineup so far, but I look at it this way. There's going to be about six dozen DJs with slots at this thing. *Some* of them are people you may not have seen who will impress -- think of some of those DJs and live performances in the Dutch tent last year. The festival is going into its seventh year, and the novelty has long since worn off. It's not the ideal place for DJs and live performers to do their best, as many a struggling performance on the main stage has shown (which is why I'm especially pleased when our homies like AO, Plaslaiko, Sean Deason and Fab have rocked the house there). It's gonna be fun, enjoy it for what it is. Detroit is a total mess, thousands of people are losing their jobs, the city may even go into receivership this year. Be thankful there is even a festival, at this point, wish Paxahau well and tell 'em not to forget where they come from, and let the good times roll. fh - On Friday, April 14th 2006 at 5:34 PM, Thomas D. I just saw The Orb a month or so ago. Like Matt Kane said - think Fehlmann on laptop with Alex mixing records alongside. Pleasant enough, but this is not your father's Orb. I quite enjoy Thomas Fehlmann's solo gigs but I prefer the old Orb if they're going to be billed as The Orb together. P.P.P.S. Where's all the young rising Detroit talent? Ghostly/Spectral crew, etc.? I think I'm going to sit this one out, kids. (Not that I could afford it this year, anyway)
(313) Re: [ok] Re: (313) re (313) DG
Well, all I can say is there are some DJs who I avoid at the Detroit festival too :) It's important not to underestimate what Michael mentioned in regard to what (not very funky) funky breaks did to the west coast scene starting as early as 1992 but definitely in 1994-95. Basically everyone started catering to the kids (including my good friends in Wicked). Working DJs always have the dilemma about playing what's popular at the moment versus what is good. Some simply skate from trend to trend over the years -- y'all can name 'em in your own locality, I'm sure. On the other hand, some DJs are good at spotting the good quality records in any trend -- including (not very funky) funky breaks. Everyone has genres they play well or not so well, it's a learning process like everything in music. I know a lot of musicians who play three, four, five instruments and enjoy them quite a bit, but obviously excel in only one. Does that mean they shouldn't play any of the others? Not at all, because breadth of expression is essential to music, it keeps you fresh. In any event, the (not very funky) funky breaks legacy lives on, grinds on, crawls on, year after year in the Northwest. I've actually heard some good breaks sets in the last couple of years but most of it is noxious paint-by-numbers crapola. Anyway, back to DG -- believe me, we will kick his bootay if he doesn't bring his best game to Detroit. fh

I'm sorry Fred, but i have never been to detroit, nor ever played at the DEMF ;) (which is why I'm especially pleased when our homies like AO, Plaslaiko, Sean Deason and Fab have rocked the house there).

(313) Movement Line Up
So, it's a little Ravey, might attract the Hot Topic crowd? Who cares. I go to Detroit every year for my other family reunion. There's always more than enough music I want to hear, and plenty I want to avoid. As much as I love a set of banging hard techno, one set a month is about my limit for really enjoying it. And in my limited experience, for every DJ that can play an exciting set of hard techno, there are about 500 that can make you want to claw off your face after about a half hour. Having a bunch of DrumBass at the festival will at least mean that you'll hear WHOMP chick WHOMP ... chick instead of _just_ WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP. And another thing -- if you're setting up sound, please remember to cut at 100 hz about 3 dB. That's what's known in the business as the Frequency of Bassbin Fart.
(313) Roving London report in brief
Spacebass was good. Mark Eagle's set of obsure funk was dope. Bicknell played really well but dropped the same two Ame tracks back-to-back again and 'I Feel Love'. Good excuse to make a trip to the loo at this point. Fabrice Lig and DJ Bone played Brixton last night. Bone was bland looped bangers and a coupla classics. Nice work on the mixer but pedestrian selection. He could've taken the assembled crowd a lot further with a more adventurous set of records, as indicated by the dancefloor thinning soon after he came on. Fabrice Lig was THE NUTS. That man is definitely the most stupidly precise mixer I've ever heard. Amazing selection only slightly discoloured by the inclusion of Jaguar, but people were loving the whole thing. Dope selection. Perfect execution. Nice work! Tristan === http://www.phonopsia.co.uk [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. My bad, I meant Fabrice Lig. Respect to fab -- all of 'em. :) fh -- http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node=313 How many 313 listers does it take to change a lightbulb? Five. One to check the catalogue number of the bulb. One to argue that it ain't no bulb if ain't from da 'D. One to argue that European light bulbs are made better. One to moan about how lightbulbs aren't as good as they used to be. And one to get off his arse and change it himself. - I'm sorry Fred, but i have never been to detroit, nor ever played at the DEMF ;) (which is why I'm especially pleased when our homies like AO, Plaslaiko, Sean Deason and Fab have rocked the house there).
