Re: (313) Maestro DVD- Steve D'Aquisto
I'm reading right now Love Saves... and, yes, there are some info on him. Nice book indeed :) Emiliano - Original Message - From: Joost P [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Wednesday, August 02, 2006 6:47 PM Subject: Re: (313) Maestro DVD- Steve D'Aquisto From what I remember there's quite a bit of info on him in Love saves the day. If I remember correctly he started the very first DJ record pool together with David Mancuso after he was pissed off when some record label wouldn't give him a certain record for free. Mel Cheren also writes a bit about him in Keep on Dancin Online I wouldn't really know other than what google turns up. Everything I touch breaks this week. No new tunes for the last two weeks, but if anyone has got anything hot to recommend, I just use some retail therapy :) That's been the only bright spot really. I picked up a decent sized haul from Juno and spent a good chunk of my evening last night ploughing through it. I got the latest Pascal Schäfer 'Day Return EP' on Karaoke Kalk Pets, which has three almost-excellent-but-not-quite-there tracks and the last cut 'Freightliner', which is a fantastic little housey tune with lush synths, and certainly justifies the price of the record on its own. I also picked up this 'Cookies Brownies 2' record http://www.discogs.com/release/587765 which features a track by Trevor AKA Pascal Schäfer as well, although I've not properly injested that one yet. The lengthy (3 minute) clips on Juno sound good for that one, fwiw. Detroit Beatdown 1 Remixes 3 10 is nice. Digging both sides. The Amp Dog Knight remix is about what you'd expect and the Malik Pittman remix rings Prescription bells in my head for some reason. Gotta be those pianos. Got the Redshape on Styrax Leaves. Not convinced of it just yet. The beat on 'Dust' is dope, but I wish it added something.Should be able to find a use for it though. Got that Atjazz 'For Real'. The Charles Webster and Atjazz mix is the one. Cheers for the tip Francis! And in the German/Canadian Detroit house section (if that makes any sense), I got The Mole's 'In My Song' on Wagon Repair and Soulphiction's 'Masai Mara' on Philpot, both of which are doing it for me, and both of which demonstrate the distance these guys can put between themselves and the KDJ/Theo-wannabe tags they often get slapped with. The Soulphiction one in particular is fairly atypical and synth-heavy as well. Oh, and I picked up the Lifeworks comp http://www.openmindrecordings.com/lifeworks.htm, which is looking fantastic, but it's next up in my listening queue so I can't comment just yet. I hear they're going fast, so get 'em while they're hot! Tristan === [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.phonopsia.co.uk

Err... I've just decided not to anyway. ;) Best to be irrationally firm and closed-minded about these things I reckon. It's much cheaper that way. Worst-case scenario you figure out you're wrong way too late and the best of the wax is terminally unavailable. This discussion seems to be everywhere at the moment. A guy on a message board I'm on quoted another guy on another message board I'm not on with the best description of dubstep ever, silly bass whoomp party music. :) I'll leave it at that since this isn't terribly topical. But I like this, so I may as well re-post it here: http://barefiles.com/download.php?id=464. It's a mix of the Burial album for Breezeblock. RE: (313) hi-tech soul on sale
yeah. burial is awesome. for those not clocking this, it's slowed-down two step with some basic channel-type crackle and hiss (though the producer claims not to be aware of BC). a couple of the tracks have some nice vocal elements reminiscent of the early (i.e. good) days of dnb. but as much as i like it, i don't see how it's new or revolutionary. to my ears, it's quite similar to photek's modus operandi except the drum programming isn't quite as intricate. (i read somewhere that the burial guy actually cuts and pastes snare sounds into loops in sound forge or something.) and there's certainly some other good dubstep worth buying, but i have to say that on my last couple trips to london, i had to listen to a lot of really boring records to find a couple gems. (though who knows-- those boring records might be ace on a proper rig. it's tough to spot a cool subbass line over headphones in a loud record store.) it's all about the mixes anyways... --- Tristan Watkins [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: -Original Message- From: fab.
