(313) Chilled Out Passion 29-7-06 archive
Apologies for the funky dynamics imposed by the fancy radio station mixer, but an archive it is. My part's not mixed. It's sort of a review of the non-house/non-techno stuff I used to play on my radio show by virtue of the fact that I only brought CDs (lots of ambience, trance-before-it-was-a-bad-word and industrial things, with a couple of hip hop bits for good measure). As you can see below, Dan kicks things off with a load of older drum n' bass, and my set starts in the 51st minute. It felt like a bit of trip down memory lane for me to be live on the terrestrial radio again, playing the same material I used to. I know it ain't totally topical, but at the time, these worlds weren't so distinct. And it was fun! (313) YEAH records
Well, on a slight tangent, although I know some people here are at least aware of his 'Precious Hall' release on Natural Resource, I've just been on a bit of a binge today, playing massive catch-up with Mr. Kuniyuki Takahashi, a man of many pseudonyms and many releases this year. KOSS: Ring 01 (Mule Electronic Japan) 12" KOSS: Ring 02 (Mule Electronic Japan) 12" KOSS: Ra1030in (Mule Electronic Japan) 12" KUNIYUKI: Sekai No Ichiban Tooi Tochi E (Mule Musiq Japan) 12" SLOW DIDI: Follow Me (Tri Eight Music Japan) 12" And The Soul of Science 3 comp, which features his remix of NXS, a ridiculously rare, pricy and impossible-to-find record, given that it's like three years old - also from the tail end of the Natural Resource catalogue. The Koss stuff above is of the more electronic persuasion. He's definitely a man of many influences, and able to execute in lots of styles. Maybe Hiroshi Watanabe meets Wayne Gardiner with some ambient and broken beat styles here and there. Hard to pidgeon hole. Have I missed talk of the new Rotating Assembly/Green Pickles? I like it. Got that and the FXHE/Unirhythm Marcellus Pittman records. Digging 'em. And yeah, the latest Erell Ranson and John Beltran records are sounding wicked. Both on the way. Oh, and the ART1 repress on R&S, if I missed discussion of that. Tristan === http://www.phonopsia.co.uk [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. (313) black nation crew, where are you?
So where is the black nation crew these days? I know Bennet is out West I believe? Fanon has relocated west as well. Where is Jay Denham? Why don't he and Fanon get bookings? I remeber this one party they threw up in K'zoo at the BN place and you had to climb through this weirdo hole in the wall to get in and out of this pretty large space. It was the oddest thing but there was nothing but pure techno the entire night. Just wondering. like bon-a-duchi. diana __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! My records are at home, but I would be more than glad to put together a top 50 of the summer for you guys. I will also state that Kent, or ANYONE else, if you want to know what Im playing, ask me when i'm playing it. I have NO idea what I played that night! I probably would not even been able to answer that question 5 mins after I played! I DO know I played 3 tracks off that Samuel Sessions on Klap Klap. The new Klap Klap is really great too! Also, Petter's "Some Polyphony" on Border Community. Probably a Rekorder record or 2. *shrugg* derek. RE: (313) ron murphy
The last I heard about his health was about 6 months back. Banks said he was still poorly and the primary reason he was ill was from stress over money issues because a lot of the newer producers were opting to get their music mastered overseas. It's a shame, because he is a total legend. New producers are always looking for that 'new edge' so much that sometimes they forget about the history and overlook the opportunity to work with someone who has helped shape the sound that they love so much. If I were making records I would only work with him. When I start developing the historical exhibitions I want to do, then I will definitely give Ron a prime spot. J- -Original Message- From: J.T.
