For the bay area listers, my friends and I are bringing out Miksate to SF on Feb. 10th. More info and a snippet of her live set here: http://www.myspace.com/lowendsaturday Quoting Luis-Manuel Garcia [EMAIL PROTECTED]: So, I'm only catching up on my listservs now (I had a 3-night run of clubbing here in Paris. Gui Boratto @ Pulp, Exercise One Anja Schneider @ Nouveau Casino, and MyMy Jesse Rose @ Rex...so not much email-checking). Anyway, I just wanted to add that I've been loving Miskate's releases on FoundSound to bits. I loved the Rip It Cookie Muenster EP, but I'm also digging her more recent work, like the Pharm Whacker EP (although I have trouble imagining myself mixing it into a set). If you're a fan of the clickity-clack school of microhouse + thumpy but well-articulated bass, she's your woman. And DJ Sassmouth rocks on many levels. Miss ya Sam! Re: (313) Danny Wolfers
Hi, If Legowelt is playing live, this is a MUST SEE show. He tore it up playing live at a small venue here in Chicago last fall. The only downside was that this was a Monday night show, which slightly lowered the attendance and party atmosphere. But the set was hot. Also, this is clearly on topic: his set is full of electro, acid and jack tracks, quite clearly showing an obvious Detroit + Chicago influence. ~David On 1/23/07, Toby Frith [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: A little OT but I see Legowelt is going to Aus and NZ. Rhaa I totally dont know that track and I am almost sure this is a classic (Todd Terry ?). But the fact is that i have heard it recently at Depp Space @ Cielo NY, but also in a party with Laurent Garnier and in a recorded show from Deetron. The track has some kindof slow 'Garage' rythm, a synth line that make me think to Kill Bill gimmick, and a voice saying Find it, Give it, Work it, Share it Find it, Give it, Work it, Spread it (maybe i made some mistake as my undesrtanding of lyrics in English is quite bad). -- Benoît.

(313) recording mixes straight to computer
For those of you who record your DJ mixes - what program do you use? I was just pointed to Audacity. Is it any good? I'm on a Mac running OS X 10.4 if that makes a difference. I want something that's pretty much click and record. MEK

Audacity is free and open source, and lets you record and edit audio. There are commercial packages as well like Bias Peak. I find Peak pretty underwhelming. Sound Forge, its PC counterpart, is much better IMO. But as far as clicking record and away it goes, Peak'd be fine. On an opposite note, I'm looking for something more like a command line tool for audio processing, particularly to do batch normalizing. Opening up a soundfile in SoundForge and waiting for the graphic rendering of the WAV file to load, is often complete overkill, and since I do some of my audio processing on an old PIII, I'd like a more optimized/quicker/non-GUI solution. I might use the open source audio processing language ChucK to do it though, I don't think that would be too difficult. But does anyone know of anything? I may also be able to use some Linux tools, my gf is installing Debian for me on an old laptop. Re: (313) Disco D 1980-2007
wow. I can't believe this news. I talked to Dave a little bit ago too.I was thinking the other day how I haven't heard from him-assuming he must be busy. He always kept in touch with me no matter how busy his schedule was.Just a simple 'hey' sometimes. When he got the phone message from 50cent's people he even played it for me- he was so excited. He was like a little kid. I remember seeing Dave play on top of a roof of a motorcycle dealership with DJ Godfather. That's my most vivid and early memory. It's there that I met his parents who were so proud of their son and they believed in him. Years later I saw him play in NYC with a bunch of friends. He even took the time to bring them up on stage for one of those crazy dance offs and give me a shout out. I felt like a rockstar. He never forgot the people who supported him.I even remember poking fun at him for the K-Fed stuff, and he stood up for his artist...like Dave would. Based on our conversations over the years, I gather that Dave got to love and felt incredibly fortunate to be able to do what he loved while earning a living. He spoke of that often. He saw the world and had many opportunities. He was silly, sometimes very proud, smart and incredibly ambitous. I would think Dave's version of the afterlife is full of good things to smoke (he was never secretive of this), gorgous girls and lots of gear for making beats. I hope he is in a place where his heart and mind can finally exhale its woes. Too many, too soon. --- [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Oh no... kent williams [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote on 01/23/2007 04:07:59 PM: Dave Shayman was an extremely intelligent, talented guy, who was a joy to watch DJ, and great fun to hang out with.
