Subject: Re: (313) mad mike interview link he makes some interesting points about why dance music is dada in states. i would not have considered blaming european labels for the failure of house/techno to take hold in america. It's a good point, given enough time for it to grow and with the support would the outcome have been different? See the Grime scene in the UK if house/techno had not exploded in uk/europe when it did, and the artists had stayed in their home towns, would the situation be radically different today? or was it always destined to be marginalised? We'll never know...so you could talk about it until the cows come home. if the likes of virgin had made a concerted effort to market the music in america, would it have more of a following now? was this http://www.discogs.com/release/65112 released in the states? Or without Neil would we be looking at a different scene completely? http://www.de-bug.de/texte/4639.html

(313) OK I will put up ghetto mix...
Thanks for all the interest. I will have to record and encode the Milton/Urban mix. I'll try to get to it tonight... A good test of my remastering-cassettes signal chain -- behringer tube EQ to compressor to computer. I can guarantee it will have some righteous tape noise and distortion on the kicks -- just the way it was made!

"If you want to see DJs sitting down playing 7" dub records end-to-end with good MCs then yes. It's nice to see and it's very enjoyable on those terms, but don't expect anything more than that" This will not work in Fabric, all the kids out of there head will not get it, it'll be similar to the Reinforced records party when UR hosted a room and Theo came on last 5am -7am set, after all the 313 boys slamming it out and cleared the dance floor. Ha-ha, it was great. Or even DJ in England would be good. When I've seen him he's been incredibly inconsistent, from brilliant to train-wreck central. I'm struggling to think of anyone who's performed less consistently. Obviously I may have just caught a wide variance in the five or so times I've seen him, but they've been totally uncomparable. I have enjoyed his recorded mixes though. > I see rhythm and sound are playing fabric on the 3rd is this > an experience worth seeing anyone? RE: (313) Recloose Live Band
Hey T, yeah the live act played at Fabric on the same night as the Beat down boys were in room 3 last year, I watched most of the live set and really enjoyed it. Matt was like the conductor, similar to CC an Innerzone Orchestra. -Original Message- From: Tristan Watkins [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 11 February 2007 02:04 To: 'Fred Heutte'; 313@hyperreal.org Subject: RE: (313) Recloose Live Band > -Original Message- > From: Fred Heutte [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: 11 February 2007 20:48 > To: 313@hyperreal.org > Subject: (313) Recloose Live Band > > I've been in New Zealand for the last two-plus weeks on vacation. Is that right? Anyone? IIRC it was OK then, but not really great. I've only the vaguest of recollections. Would love to see something that winds up half-way between Fat Freddys Drop and Recloose though. That would be how I envision it might work. Is that anywhere near the mark Fred? I've seen the band once, about a year ago now, and thoroughly enjoyed what they were doing. I can only imagine that they're even tighter now. Anyway, here's some words and pictures from that particular gig last year. http://royaltech.net/blog/2006/01/22/recloose-becks-bar/ Benn >Date Mon, 12 Feb 2007 7:47 AM ( 4 hours 27 mins ago ) Text view >From "Fred Heutte" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> [Add] To 313@hyperreal.org Subject Recloose Live Band Show I've been in New Zealand for the last two-plus weeks on vacation. Had a chance to catch Recloose DJing at Sandwiches in Wellington a week ago, and Matt's new project, the Recloose Live Band, at a street fair in Petone just outside Welly last night. At the corner of Jackson and Buick, would you believe. The band is an eight-piece jazz/funk outfit playing mostly originals and really is quite good, staying away from the cliches that plague these kinds of efforts. They have a brand-new CD out, Backwards and Sideways, recorded live at the San Francisco Bath House club in Wellington last November: http://www.myspace.com/reclooseliveband The CD doesn't have my favorite track, "Sanctuary," but you can hear it on Matt's Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/mattchicoine I talked with Matt a little and I think he misses tha D a lot (who doesn't of those who emigrate), and making a living doing music is hard anywhere but harder when your main markets are 10,000 miles away, but he's scraping through and doing it grand. So, good on yer Matt. And will someone PLEASE book this band for the Detroit music festival this year! Fred -- Benn D. Glazier [EMAIL PROTECTED] ph: +61 (0) 413 316 618 http://royaltech.net
