Since it's been a while (i think?) .. has anyone got any updates/info
on some of these systems .. reliability ? functionality ?

I use serato fs out on the odd occasion when I play out, as does my
quite a few of my friends. When I do see people using a digital dj setup
these days, I mostly see them using serato fs.

I haven't had any hassles with it crashing on me (yet). The latest
version has key correction (finally) and the beat looping is getting
there, although no where as tight as ableton or traktor.

The two main gripes I've had with it is:

1. crawling around in the dark in a dj booth trying to get it all setup
while another dj is playing without disturbing
2. sh*tty decks which are completely out of alignment, and make it
*really* hard to get serato synced up nicely. This has only happened to
me once and probably would've been less of a problem if I'd brought my
own needles. Lesson learnt (shouldn't learnt that one years ago with
normal vinyl).

Who have you seen on the circuit using these systems ??

I've seen A-Trak, Mix Master Mike (although he used it with CD decks),
Common's DJ (not sure of his name) and Diplo using it out amongst others.

The essential function I am looking for is the ability to cue a digital
 track
.. pitch adjust it into the mix using a turntable .. then release the
 track
from the turntable and then start the process on a new track.

Basically .. providing the ability to do multi deck mixing using only one
  turntable as a control device.

You can do that now with serato fs. Its a really great feature when
you've got a crap deck or a deck that's too close to a speaker stack
without decent sound proofing.

I think that does the CBS a disservice, just saying that it played bad
European dance music. I've heard some amazing records on there, not just Italo
or Synth, but electro, techno and some more unusual experimental material. And
it was a lot of fun.

(313) p2p

2007-05-03 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Now I don't want to start a discussion about the legality or morality of it.
At present I have Soulseek on my machine. I hardly
ever use it. What I do use it for is on the odd occasion I can't go somewhere
like Piccadilly or even Juno to listen to clips of a
tune I've found out / heard about. Usually something second hand, older/rare
(why I can't find a clip at the shops) - I'd just buy
it if it wasn't expensive, but at the price I want a listen first. Or maybe
it's something I saw/heard briefly and liked in the
shop but has gone now. I want a proper listen before I start on the major
NETQUEST to find that last new copy with a shop - I
mention this because in this case hopefully the artist is going to get some £
as a result. If I find music I like I always buy it
on vinyl if I can and maybe on CD if not so I don't feel bad about using p2p.
On the other hand if the corporate world suddenly
found a way to completely stop it I wouldn't feel that was wrong.

My question is do people have another one to recommend other than Soulseek?
I'm about to migrate to a new machine and would prefer
something else. Lot's of people recommend Soulseek but I often don't find what
I'm looking for on there. Apparently this is
because everybody now restricts their files to lists of people they know or
swap stuff in private rooms or something. I'm sure
that's fine if you've time / are into that sort of thing. I use it about once
every 6 months and would like something simple where
I just search for a tune and download it and that's it. I definitely don't
have time to go checking out online rooms, meeting the
Soulseek community etc. Thinking of trying Limewire as I hear that's popular
but I don't know much about these things.

Indeed, this xtrak record is much better than most of his current
stuff. The Yore label sounds promising, bringing back some old

sounds wicked, samples up on wordandsound.net.

yeah the samples sound good, much better than some of the more
glitchy
and mnml stuff he's been doing lately. definitely brings back
that old

xtrak feeling. also good if you like this one is the hiatus LP on
residual from a while back. he also did an ill 4 track ep on
residual

in this style that kills it.
