Long scene, so I got to gaze lovingly at the poster for a few

I went to that night too.

As Tristan points out the T-Funktion posters used to appear all the

RE: (313) The dice - Berlin

2009-01-30 Thread Martijn de Blaauw
Berlin rolls the Dice

The lucky clubbers of Berlin just got luckier. As RA previously
reported, yet another addition to the clubbing map, Dice, will
officially open in a matter of weeks.

As with Berghain, Dice is situated in an abandoned power station, but it
seems like that's where the similarities between the two clubs end.
Situated in Mitte, Dice is a 2,000 square metre venue that will have
three rooms for music, as well as a large roof garden for parties and
Sunday sessions over the summer months. Whilst Berghain has a simplistic
outlook as far as lighting is concerned, the owners of Dice have pulled
out all the stops, getting Room Division (who are responsible for the
dazzling ceiling lights in Watergate) to kit the club out with their
creations. Sound quality hasn't been compromised either, as Funktion One
have custom-built their most expensive set-up to date for the space.

Whilst the official opening party is actually on the 14th of February,
its secondary rooms will host a few warm up parties in the weekends
running up to that date. Marc Houle, Matthew Styles and Kiki kick things
off this Friday, whilst Saturday's party is taken over by live sets from
Jussi-Pekka and Lars Wickinger. The weekend before the launch sees two
separate shows from Dial's Lawrence and Platzhirsch boss Tobias Becker,
whilst Agaric and Treplec both play the night before the official
opening.

The opening party itself marks the first time that the main dance floor
will be opened to the public, with a line-up that should make it a night
to remember. Detroit techno legends Octave One will be bringing their
analogue gear over for a special live performance, and Fabrice Lig,
Spirit Catcher and A Guy Called Gerald will also contribute live
performances.

Detroit can be a really harsh place. If you visit -- and you don't
get lost in the wrong neighborhood after dark -- it can seem like a
really friendly, chill place. But ask anyone who actually grew up in
the City how many people they know who got shot, how many people they
know went to prison, etc..

A friend of mine was driving a rental car to Detroit for DEMF a few
years back and stopped for gas at the wrong exit and got carjacked at
gunpoint. I got my car broken into in Downtown Detroit because I
wasn't in a patrolled lot. That isn't much, but Detroit definitely
isn't all unicorns and rainbows. It's a desparately poor American
city, with a bankrupt government, underfunded schools, and with the
implosion of the auto industry, it isn't getting better anytime soon.

While that all is true, people should visit. No one except techno
heads vacation in Detroit, and there's no city that needs your tourism
dollars more. The music industry is one of the few bright spots in the
city.

(313) Where to purchase Sistrum Recording tracks digitally?

2009-01-30 Thread kent williams
I spent some time listening to Patrice Scott tracks on Beatport -- the
only site I've found that has most of the Sistrum records available
for digital purchase -- but when I tried to buy them, Beatport said
they aren't authorized to sell them in the US.

Not sure what's up with that at all! If they can sell them somewhere
besides the US -- i.e. EU/UK -- but not the US, that normally would
mean that Sistrum has a deal with a different digital store for US
sales. Anyone know who that is?

Weird, I thought I got them from there when they first listed them. You
might try http://www.whatpeopleplay.com/

Be forewarned, that the digital versions tend to have various degrees of

Sometimes it's good when a label is slow with its release schedule,

don't ignore the xdb he put out though -- the A is one of the most
interesting in the dubtech overload of recent years and certainly the

Re: (313) The dice - Berlin

2009-01-30 Thread atomly
Wow. Sounds like the anti-Berghain. Maybe it'll distract the rest of
the tourists that Watergate didn't manage to and Berghain's line can
shorten up a bit.

[Martijn de Blaauw martijn.de.bla...@woonconcept.nl]

It was mostly indie and minimal customers, which as I noted earlier in
my poorly phrased note, hid a lot of the very-good-for-these-days
electronic and techno sections. They always had an up to date wall.

I remember a cool one that I think was only audio, had a bunch of
experimental artists, maybe Raster Noton or Gescom types talking about
production and inspirations. Had an interesting soundtrack in the
background of clicks and cuts glitchery and field recordings. I don't
think it was so much interview style as a bunch of clips of artists'
thoughts on things, spoken. I think I first found out about it on this
list within the last 5 years or so. Any help or hints appreciated.

 Don't think I've got the 4 x 12 - yeah, the tracks I've got by him

are pretty different- start off quite standard US House and
 then
veer off into stranger territory - not always dancefloor friendly but

 def. interesting stuff

 OTT 4x12 one.

from what i've heard, he has the most unique
 sound out of the recent

 (critics?) don't appear
to have caught on to him in the same way as the
 jus-ed, patrice scott
