During DEMF weekend, I'd pay good money to go to a Scene reunion. All those people are my age or older, but I bet they still got it! On Sun, Apr 19, 2009 at 1:04 AM, Fred Heutte ph...@sunlightdata.com wrote: Another YouTube find... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b4pVpwHLWo

(313) DEMF statistics revealed
So I've spent most of the weekend compiling every year of DEMF lineups into an excel document, cross referencing with race (ooh! controversial!) and hometown of performers. I'll be dropping data bits on my blog over the coming week. Anybody interested in the .xls file with the raw data please let me know and I will email it to you offlist. Kevin Saunderson in one guise or another has played at every DEMF. Magda and Marco Carola are the only two performers to have played more than three times. T-1000 has played at only one. Neither Terrence Dixon nor Omar-S have played at one yet. More here http://www.deejaycountzero.com/blog -- peace, frank . count zero

er, I meant to say, Magda and Marco Carola are the only NON-DETROIT performers to have appeared more than three times. Nuff respect to Michael Geiger. I think he's an excellent DJ - but it's mad to see him on that list, given that as soon as I saw Carola at 4x I was thinking WTF. Does anyone outside of Detroit or people who have visited Detroit know who Michael Geiger is? I'm not trying to make too big of a deal about this, but I'd expect to see Derrick May there before him. That said, there's little rhyme or reason to this across multiple festivals and multiple sets of political pressures. Tristan
Re: (313) DEMF statistics revealed
Programming of the fest has never been as good as in the first 2 years, and those that don't realize that, i don't know. i say this with all due respect to all involved this and recent years. Comparing a detroit fest that headlines marco carola, and had benny benassi, to one in which the last poets's Umar Bin Hassan recited poetry with Kenny Dixon and Derrick May is nuts. One highlight for me was Mills' first time playing, when he got slightly wizard on the decks. (and when the mixer blew up, and dmay got on the mic - drama is good sometimes). And finally, a big mistake is the absence of DJ Hell. He merits a place on the lineup. Maybe even a whole night or stage devoted to his sound, from his punkier days to now, curated by him. There's a reason jeff mills is the international dj gigolo on gigolo 2, and its annoying that that connection hasnt been brought to bear on the world stage that the demf sometimes is when the music stands for itself. I mean last year was a great year, but in my ears only because of a few choice, hot moments at the fest, and a couple of parties that stood out, like the friday night party at the works, and the matchless Music Institute party. A few of those moments and connecting with friends is all i need. -Alex ps just remembered, whats up with omar s not playing (or is he?) Maybe Omar S is too much a drama queen (just saying - he seems to be quite vocal on any blog that says anything about him) On Sun, Apr 19, 2009 at 8:43 PM, ohanakin ... ohana...@gmail.com wrote: Programming of the fest has never been as good as in the first 2 years, and those that don't realize that, i don't know. i say this with all due respect to all involved this and recent years. Geiger's a good guy and all I wish is more DJs and musicians who aren't known by people from outside the area were on the agenda more often. fh -- mail forwarded, original message follows -- To: cpe1704...@gmail.com CC: 313@hyperreal.org From: phonop...@googlemail.com Tristan Watkins Subject: Re: (313) DEMF statistics revealed Date: Mon, 20 Apr 2009 00:54:38 +0100 Nuff respect to Michael Geiger. Not quite, Fred. Adam Beyer, John Acquaviva, Octave One, and Luciano have also all played 3 times. Programming of the fest has never been as good as in the first 2 years, and those that don't realize that, i don't know. i say this I agree, but some other years were damn good too. It's entirely possible that the best is yet to come. And finally, a big mistake is the absence of DJ Hell. He merits a Gigilo is/was a popular label, that's for sure. And it stands to reason that if Adam X has played, Hell should too. But I'm not nearly as enthusiastic about it as you are.
