It's embarrassing how bad that writer's knowledge of the subject
matter is, especially considering it's in the New York Times. Not to
mention it's a poorly written article. /hater

Then again, NYT was never known to be the well of ug electronic music
knowledge. It's also refreshing to see the myth of detroit=lowbrow
rave culture, mutek=highbrow electronic music bastion perpetuated in
mainstream press. /sarcasm

On a positive note, NYT did a decent piece on Model 500 live and the
Detroit history behind techno (iirc) not too long ago, for anyone that
cares to search for it.

(313) Disco Nihilist vinyl in Detroit this weekend

2010-05-27 Thread Mike Taylor
Hello all,

I am dropping a line to let folks know that you can buy Disco Nihilist
vinyl in Detroit this weekend at:

Stormy Records
13210 Michigan Avenue
Dearborn, Michigan 48126, USA
(Above Green Brain Comics)
313-581-9322

Weekend Hours:
Thursday 11-8
Friday 11-8
Saturday 11-8
Closed Sunday and Monday

They have limited quantities of all three of my releases as well as a
strong selection of used Jazz, Soul, and RB. Last time I was in there
I picked up every Motown anthology you could think of in mint
condition with all inserts for $8 a pop as well as a bunch of old Sun
Ra, Lonny Liston Smith and Herbie Hancock records. I also picked up a
bunch of disco stuff cheap as well.

I also want to let people know about a new shop carrying my music in
Detroit called Ya Digg Records in the Russell Industrial Center.

Ya Digg Records
1610 Clay Ave
#210 Bldg 2
Detroit MI 48211
313-285-9988

Weekend Hours:
Friday 12-6
Saturday 12-5
Sunday 12-5
Closed Monday

Ya Digg is a brand new spot that just opened last month. Terri McQueen
aka DJ Whodat runs that shop and has a selection of mainly used
records. I just sent her a package of records and I know Theo Parrish
has dropped a lot of product in the store as well. She has a large
used selection of house and soul records.

I would also like to mention to label owners that Terri is looking to
stock underground house and techno vinyl in the shop. She will buy
direct for cash, hit her up!

Take care,
m

Not sure about any of that, but presumably Carl Craig hasn't gotten
any of that $14,099.93 that he's looking for.

Re: (313) DEMF News: Villalobos Canceled, Richie Hawtin to play twice

2010-05-27 Thread David Powers
VILLALOBOS CANCELLED, RICHIE HAWTIN REPLACES HIM
ON BEATPORT STAGE AT VOYAGE ROYAL AFTER PARTY
DETROIT, May 27, 2010—Ricardo Villalobos’ scheduled performance this
weekend at the Movement Electronic Music Festival Powered by Ford
Fiesta has been cancelled, but Richie Hawtin has agreed to perform in
his place on the BeatPort Stage Sunday, May 30 from 9 pm until
midnight.
Goetz Guse of Cocoon Agency out of Frankfurt, Germany informed
festival organizers today that Villalobos will not be able to perform
at Movement. Guse said, “Ricardo did not receive his Working VISA back
in time due to US immigration Authorities at abroad consulates. Even
with precocious legal support from the US as well as from Germany he
still wasn’t able to obtain the Working VISA due to unexpected
bureaucratic obstacles.”
Movement organizers expressed disappointment about the news regarding
Villalobos, but are optimistic festival-goers will enjoy a Richie
Hawtin performance as the replacement.
“We are disappointed Ricardo is not able to make it, especially with
it being so close to the festival, but the show must continue,” said
Jason Huvaere, the executive director of Movement. “However, we are
very grateful Richie agreed to fill in. Nowhere else will you get to
experience Richie Hawtin presenting Plastikman live one night, and
then the next night see an original Richie Hawtin DJ set, it’s going
to be truly amazing.”
The Plastikman live performance will be the headliner on the
Vitaminwater Main Stage the first night of the festival, Saturday, May
29. It is scheduled for 11 p.m. to midnight. After Hawtin performs a
three-hour set on the Beatport Stage, he will be aboard the sold out
Voyage Royal: I’m on a Boat 2 after party to perform with DJ Magda in
place of Villalobos on the second floor of the Detroit Princess.

2010-05-27 Thread Denise Dalphond
Nice!! You're selling at Stormy, that's great!

Yes, Ya Digg is fantastic. She does have some great vinyl from Theo
Parrish - stuff from his own collection and some new releases.

The store can be a bit hard to find. Once you turn right into the
Russell complex, either park in the main parking lot in front of you,
or turn right down the first drive between the first two buildings.
Building #2 will be on your left. Walk into the door in the middle of
the building and take the hall to the right. About midway down, you
will come to suite 210 - she'll have signs out. You'll probably hear
beats.

See some a ya this weekend!
