Kevin Saunderson & Carl Craig

2020-02-24 Thread Andrew Duke
In 1988, Kevin Saunderson was the musical "gateway drug" that lead me to my
love of Detroit electronic music and all things techno. As a DJ, I was
buying every dance-related 12", EP, and LP that came into Halifax NS and I
saw at the local radio station. When "Techno! The New Dance Sound of
Detroit" hit my local store, and Master Reese remixes of Wee Papa Girls,
Samantha Fox, Paula Abdul and others were in my sets, I was cemented as a
lifelong member of Team KMS. I am glad there is new Inner City album
scheduled for this year. The Chuck Daniels remix of their "Bad Girl" single
in 2017 (with LaRae Starr on vox) still puts a smile on my face:

Released December 31, 2018 is my fave more-recent Inner City single and the
remix from Carl Craig (in the game since 1991) is the stunner here, IMO:

That one and the new album will feature vocalist Steffanie Christian
prominently. There's been a few singles in 2019.

Speaking of Carl Craig, I am still enjoying the "Detroit Love" comp he
released from Wajeed
https://www.discogs.com/Waajeed-Detroit-Love/release/14424764
and there's a new 2-tracker forthcoming on his Planet E from Detroit duo
Ataxia worth checking.

Re: Newest Detroit Techno artists?

2020-02-24 Thread U Design
A new label in Detroit is called Xpressway Records. Its run by William Paul
and his first series of releases highlights a really broad segment of the
current Techno & House producers in Detroit today.

I feel like Ian Finklestein could be considered one of the young ones,
although I'm not really sure of his age.

Dj Holographic, DJ Stacye J, and the Saunderson brothers are also younger.

If I think of anymore I'll let you know.

Newest Detroit Techno artists?

Hey all, been lurking for a year or 2, first time writing in. A lot of the
people talked about on this list began their careers 25-35 years ago but
I'm curious, who are the newest/youngest/most recently debuted producers
(or DJs or live acts) you would consider Detroit Techno artists?

I'd be willing to bet Teep is still lurkin' in them murky Boston harbor
waters. I don't know about you, but I take comfort in that, knowing he's
out there. Taking er easy for all us sinners.

Last Time I saw Teep was at least 20 years ago, we went and saw Ravi
Coltrane play somewhere in Boston. But alas, we all slide into
normihood over time. I still cherish the several sewer sounds 60 mix
tapes he gave me, one of those tapes introduced me to the music of
Bochum Welt, but that's a whole different story.

George, no prying meant. We don't have to get into background if you don't
want. But starting a list seems indicative of a real dedication to the
"scene"whassup? Hope 313 thrives...
