Ok, let me quell some rumors.

Seeing that my room mate (the hostess with the mostess..) works at motor I
can say that motor moving is a rumor PERIOD and last time i looked (which
was friday) Dan still owned the place. I am sure if they were going to move
they would announce it and if they did have secret plans that no one knew
about I am sure they would not have dropped 10 grand into redecorating the
place last month. BTW, to answer someone's question about new years in
Detroit bars: from my understanding, bars can stay open on NYE until 4am.
Other than NYE, bars can stay open till 4 am in Detroit if they have a
kitchen but (obviously) can only serve till 2. They are several places that
use this loop hole, such as space {dryheave}, but I don't know if this is
true in Hamtramck (were motor is). Also, regarding the police: Hamtramck
is so broke that they can hardly afford police atm (they are in the process
of deciding if they want to dissolve the police dept in the city and hire
wayne county sheriffs instead) so seeing more than one patrol car in one
place at the same time usually mandates a large explosion or dead bodies. I
have been going there about every weekend for the last 8 months and never
saw any cops waiting for people outside. On a side note, Hamtramck is WAY
sketchy so if you are going to park far from the club do yourself a favor
and dont walk alone, it seems that anytime anything happens within 15 blocks
of the motor the club is blamed for it.

Quoting now--

Motor is surrounded by a residential neighborhood so
it makes it very hard to stay open past 2am. The
boomboomboom flowing to outside from indoors makes it
hard to be sneaky too. You have to have a special
permit (which costs more mula) to have a closed bar
and remain open past 2am. You really can't make that

--

On a side note, I hear Motor is being moved to the old Moose Lodge
building downtown, and this is why they remodeled (to move the old
decorations etc to the new spot). Does anyone know if there's any truth
to this rumor? I also hear that one reason that the change is happening
is because motor was bought out... anyone know if this is true, and by
whom?

Hi there,
haven't posted to the list for quite some time as I've had very little
to say about Ritchie Hawtin

That's a cue for a Richie debate if ever I heard one : )

I caught both Magda Hawtin's set's at The End last w/e. I went in
open-minded
as I'd never heard Magda before and had only heard Hawtin about 4 times
previously.
After all the debate about weather or not Magda can DJ I found that she is
quite good at mixing (no mistakes) but I didn't really enjoy her selection.
I
didn't know any of the tracks but they seemed to be average to me (Dry was
the
term a friend used.)
Hawtin played a 6 hour set. To be honest I found it quite boring. I've
enjoyed
previous sets from him but this just seemed to be one minimal track blended
smoothly into another minimal track. There seemed to be a lack of variety,
nothing that really stood out.
Where was the madness? Where was the darkness? How about some deck skills?
What
about the funk? It was all too serious (cold clinical.) I think Professor
Hawtin needs to spend less time in the studio and maybe even go out for a
dance
one night to remember what it's like to be the other side of the DJ booth.
I'm going to hear him again at Atomic Jam alongside Luke Slater this month
so
he's got another chance to impress, I just hope he can prove me wrong.

I'm very happy to hear an aknowledgment of CBC's brand new waves. While in
college back in the day, that program was /the/ source for cutting edge
music of the time. I've always wondered why more people weren't into it.
Back in 93 I think, Mr. Hawtin did a radio interview with the Brent Bambry,
the host at the time. They later used a garbled version of the interview the
'Fuse' CD. The other day I heard a smokin' electronic track by Dr. Rocket.
If anyone knows where I can get some Dr. Rocket. Please e-mail me.

you're thinking of liz copeland. Liz's show is detroit made, and she's

State sponsorship perhaps. Also notice that the Brave New Waves hours are
from 12:00 - 3:00AM. It used to be from 11:00 to 5:00AM.

Also, check our radio escapades http://www.radioescapade.com/frameset1.html

Yes, G. That is exactly what it's about. The Palestinians live in
poverty...deep deep dep poverty, and what bin Laden and the Taliban
tells them is that they will live in unimaginable wealth (in the afterlife)
if they die for the cause. Remove the poverty and oppression and you remove
the motivation for them to join bin Laden and other violent groups.
We, as citizens of the U.S. need to tell the Bush administration and all
others to come after his that we cannot support the Israeli government's
oppressive policy, nor our own, anymore. Otherwise, if we don't, WTC is just
the beginning of more to come...and I think the terrorism will get more
deadly. We have two options, but only one solution. I can resend the link to
various Middle East groups working toward this if anyone missed it the first
time. Just email me in private.

Hmmm, I don't know if it's a battle between different religions but it
is definitely a problem with the Israelis settlements in Arab lands. I
think our government ought to work harder with these governments to
reach an peace agreement and get those settlements out because frankly,
they're causing the trouble. Its getting to the point where the Arabs
have nothing to lose and are not afraid to die. They will use their
lives as weapons as opposed to guns because they find their way of life
unbarable and that is scary with Tuesday being a prime example.

We need a resolution...

Peace,

G.

Yeah but who says 'The Scene' is ruined. It's a fact: Since the 70's
whatever party scene you're into has taken a dive across the board over the
past 20 years. That Detroit 'Black Thang' ain't ever going to happen again I
don't think unless America as to face something like WW III to kick off the
collective party scene and get people's minds really motivated. Also, I
don't think the new generations are as social as they used to be.

Poing being, I don't think there is any one thing that's screed things up,
it's alot of different social variable. In adition, the music isn't nearly
as good as it used to be. I hate to say it but Tonic's got excellent PARTY
music. Some of that other stuff is to complicated and weird. Although I love
it to death, I can certainly see why it would draw a real party crowd. You
can only take things so far. Truth is, although, I'm going downstairs to
spin some straight up 140BMP techno, I'd rather be at a party at Tonic or
Club Network than at a techno genre party. Partying to me is about much more
than the music; it's about a happy vibe. This type of vibe was born out of
more mainstream stuff but has been lost with the creation of scenes which
don't promote partying, they promote egos.

I'm done. Onward Sequencers

did not ruin the scene, the fact that it became mainstream destroyed it.
Johnny bringing his best friends, neighbors locker partner to a party ruined

Hello, sorry to drag this topic on, but what the hell is planet raver? I
think
the Detroit scene has hit an all time low. Was this supposed to be a
motor

sounded
retarded. I think this is a prime example of how cheesy the whole scene
has
gotten.

These people booked me, signed a contract, never paid the deposit, never
return phone calls, encountered problems with city officials and
canceled
 the event.

If they had any class they would have forfeited the deposit instead of
just
