Ok, let me quell some rumors.
Seeing that my room mate (the hostess with the mostess..) works at motor I
can say that motor moving is a rumor PERIOD and last time i looked (which
was friday) Dan still owned the place. I am sure if they were going to move
they would announce it and if they did have secret plans that no one knew
about I am sure they would not have dropped 10 grand into redecorating the
place last month. BTW, to answer someone's question about new years in
Detroit bars: from my understanding, bars can stay open on NYE until 4am.
Other than NYE, bars can stay open till 4 am in Detroit if they have a
kitchen but (obviously) can only serve till 2. They are several places that
use this loop hole, such as space {dryheave}, but I don't know if this is
true in Hamtramck (were motor is). Also, regarding the police: Hamtramck
is so broke that they can hardly afford police atm (they are in the process
of deciding if they want to dissolve the police dept in the city and hire
wayne county sheriffs instead) so seeing more than one patrol car in one
place at the same time usually mandates a large explosion or dead bodies. I
have been going there about every weekend for the last 8 months and never
saw any cops waiting for people outside. On a side note, Hamtramck is WAY
sketchy so if you are going to park far from the club do yourself a favor
and dont walk alone, it seems that anytime anything happens within 15 blocks
of the motor the club is blamed for it.

whom?

I didn't know any of the tracks but they seemed to be average to me (Dry was the term a friend used.) Hawtin played a 6 hour set. To be honest I found it quite boring. I've enjoyed previous sets from him but this just seemed to be one minimal track blended smoothly into another minimal track. There seemed to be a lack of variety, nothing that really stood out. Where was the madness? Where was the darkness? How about some deck skills? What about the funk? It was all too serious (cold clinical.) I think Professor Hawtin needs to spend less time in the studio and maybe even go out for a dance one night to remember what it's like to be the other side of the DJ booth. I'm going to hear him again at Atomic Jam alongside Luke Slater this month so he's got another chance to impress, I just hope he can prove me wrong. I'm very happy to hear an aknowledgment of CBC's brand new waves. While in college back in the day, that program was /the/ source for cutting edge music of the time. I've always wondered why more people weren't into it. Back in 93 I think, Mr. Hawtin did a radio interview with the Brent Bambry, the host at the time. They later used a garbled version of the interview the 'Fuse' CD. The other day I heard a smokin' electronic track by Dr. Rocket. If anyone knows where I can get some Dr. Rocket. Yeah but who says 'The Scene' is ruined. It's a fact: Since the 70's whatever party scene you're into has taken a dive across the board over the past 20 years. That Detroit 'Black Thang' ain't ever going to happen again I don't think unless America as to face something like WW III to kick off the collective party scene and get people's minds really motivated. Also, I don't think the new generations are as social as they used to be. Poing being, I don't think there is any one thing that's screed things up, it's alot of different social variable. In adition, the music isn't nearly as good as it used to be. I hate to say it but Tonic's got excellent PARTY music. Some of that other stuff is to complicated and weird. Although I love it to death, I can certainly see why it would draw a real party crowd. You can only take things so far. Truth is, although, I'm going downstairs to spin some straight up 140BMP techno, I'd rather be at a party at Tonic or Club Network than at a techno genre party. Partying to me is about much more than the music; it's about a happy vibe. This type of vibe was born out of more mainstream stuff but has been lost with the creation of scenes which don't promote partying, they promote egos. I'm done.
