Re: [313] Di Giorgio
In case you miss him on tour, Kirk Degiorgio will be spinning on Groovetech at 11pm EST (8pm PST, 4am GMT) this coming Monday, April 23. Here's a link to the live stream: http://www.groovetech.com/real-live/gtradiosea.ram -Alex Groovetech Jorge Velez wrote: Yeah - DiGiorgio rocked it last night. Nice to see a big turnout for the event. and thanks for the good review! I have a few tracks on SUNRUNNERS as Duermo, and I'm proud to be on ism. Swingsett and J Warrin - the label heads - are two of the most musically forward thinking people I know, and I think it reflects in the label's output. Watch out, cuz NYC's coming with the new stuff in a big way. peace, Jorge That party was probably thrown by ism records (ism/Esho Thursdays 121 St.Marks Place near Ave. A)... check out their new CD Sun Runners mixed by DJ Swingsett. Very cool mix of deep house sounds, freestyle breaks, dub. Here's my review of it (http://www.toastmag.com/24/rev_04.html#rev14): Various Artists Sun Runners (ism Records) New York's DJ Swingsett showcases some previously unreleased tunes from his, and J.Warrin's, ism Records. Sun Runners is an eclectic mix of sambas, East Coast jazz/funk/house blends, floor rumbling drum bass, fresh breakbeat excursions, Japanese Koto music, and dub that would drive the Mad Professor crazy. No, you didn't read it wrong I did list Japanese Koto music. That would happen to be Vida Blue by Beatboxes at Dawn. It's a weave of big and mental boom-boom beats and the gentle court music of Japan and it's that kind of stick-your-neck-out approach that makes the ism Record label a hot spot for innovation. Wally Swinsett's Dropera pushes the beats into weirdness until you think it's almost lost the plot, then they drop a big ol' bassline in and it just jells into funky chunks. Dub tracks, like Motopsyco and Cassien's Water Tree, are used to dunk listeners deeper into the mix. Actually, it's difficult to call any one track dub, house, or breakbeat. DJ Swingsett and J. Warrin have made it their purpose to break out of the mental walls that confine creativity, exploration, and good music. With ism Records, we've got plenty of good music in our future. Re: [313] Re: midem vs. sonar
Midem is pretty business heavy and most of it isn't electronic-music oriented. It's a business trade-show first and a music showcase second. BTW - Cannes isn't warm in January, it's not freezing but it ain't WMC. It's also EXPENSIVE AS HELL. Drinks are about $10 - $15 each. Lodging sucks and is expensive too. The food rocks though. Sonar is a music festival first and a conference second. Barcelona is the coolest city on the planet IMO. And the food rocks and the weather is warm and Spanish people rule and it's fairly inexpensive by European standards. Love that country..;) I think it really depends on what your friend hopes to accomplish - hardcore business it'd be Midem. Fun and schmoozing it'd be Sonar. So long, Alex Ryan Heard wrote: Sonar is fairly broad actually... sets i've heard in real audio are from as far reaching as Kit Clayton to Scion w/ Tikiman... even listened to some nice Chicago House. I would definitely go to Sonar over pretty much anything, given the opportunity. (Hint: I've been to Sonar twice, MIDEM nonce) The two are completly different - from what I remember, Sonar is techno only with a focus on the most interesting artists, Midem is music industry at large with a focus on what's selling Gwendal - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] --
from Groovetech
To the ladies and gentlemen of 313: This is Alex at Groovetech. I've been up for about 40 hours straight now so please bear with me, I'm not exactly thinking coherently. I've read most of your feedbacks and you're coming in loud and clear. I'm not going to try and answer each point, but please please please try to be a little bit patient. We're experiencing a ton more traffic than our servers are designed to handle, hence a lot of the slowness right now. We're working on adding servers at this very minute but hardware installation is not an instant process. From a usability standpoint the site is very different than the old site and does take some getting used to. When the speed issue is resolved I think you'll find it a lot more powerful and usable than the old site was. If things need to be tweaked, we will be on it - just give it a chance to do what it's been designed to do. And keep the feedbacks coming - it's the only way we know what you're thinking. In regards to the log-in screen - if you don't want to register all you have to do is click on the map. This tells us whether to present you with inventory from the US warehouse or the UK warehouse - that is all. Any other info is entirely voluntary and your decision to give. As a final word - we changed the site because we had to. The old site was beyond maxed out. We tried to make it as simple and intuitive to use as possible. I know you want it to work perfectly, we do too. Thanks, Alex Alex Hillinger . Groovetech
