Re: (313) detroit, may 12, autechre(live) + SND(live) + robhall(dj)
Yeah Milton Keynes was a hub of hardcore activity back then. Well, has been ever since really, for all the genres it spawned. We had the hardcore Mecca that was the Sanctuary (massive venue, recently levelled by the bulldozers, for better or worse), bringing kids from far and wide to go loony all night long! Happy Hardcore was a sound you'd hear all around, from market stalls, neighbours' bedrooms, to souped up Novas prowling the highways and byways of 'the city' (ha!). I just assumed though that this was the same sound pumping out everywhere, up and down the country. Well it was wasn't it? (sorry, can't supply any track names or artists, as I successfully developed a finely tuned filter for shutting it out!) Dan - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Dan Butler and Gary will tell you - where I was living at the time, it was slap bang in the middle of all this, and it was far far larger than any musical sub genre you get today. i.e. 'the garage' thing or whatever.
RE: (313) iPod DJ - more synth-pop please
Hey, the Passions I'm In Love With A German Film Star! Blimey, that takes me back to being a kid with my pocket money, up Woolworths, debating which one of the top 40 7 singles I was going to buy. I passed on it at the time. Re: (313) OOPS
Phew - and I thought it was just me that had no grasp of names and labels! I'll tell you where it's at in my collection, know the sleeve design, know how it sounds, but names?... I try and pay attention but just don't remember them. Non-trainspotters unite! I'm sorry, what did you say your name was again?... (actually I'm much better with people's names. He says, ha!) I don't even read what it says on my records anymore. I just know them by the colors and pictures mostly. Like, I know I have a green Drexciya record. And a blue one. And a couple others, they are in that one crate, hopefully, right next to the stack of books. A little to the left... I'm sort of the opposite of a trainspotter! ~David

I agree that D.E.C. really hit the mark with the ambient stuff, but I'd go for the first album Soundtrack (313) (appropriately) as the real deal. Most people probably will know it already, but for sheer beauty and understated class it's hard to beat. Someone else said Kao-tic Harmony. Yeah well, that intro - wow! Pretty much impossible not to love. cheers, Dan -- Original Message -- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] hi folks. just curious about which detroit-produced ambient trax you would consider your favorites. right now I'm hooked on gathering light, by detroit escalator company. that track just pulls me out of whatever I'm doing.
