(313) Track ID from around 89-90, possibly with Lisa Newberry vocals

2013-03-31 Thread Filip Sneppe
Hi,

I came across a person asking for two track IDs from Belgium's Boccaccio
club. The first one - I think - has Lisa Newberry (or someone sounding very
much like her) on vocals and definitely sounds like something that could
have come out of Detroit around 89-90.

https://soundcloud.com/surfingleons/bocca-track-1

Can anyone on this list ID this ?

The other one doesn't sound Detroit at all, but here it is anyway for those
who want to give it a try:

Thanks in advance,
Filip

OK, so I should've dug a little deeper before asking, the first one is
Paradise by Octave One. Sorry for the noise.

DJ Seoul is one of America's leading ambassadors of Detroit Techno and
Techno Bass. With lightning fast mixing skills and exceptionally
technical scratches and juggles, Seoul brings an energy to the
dancefloor that is rarely seen. As a producer, his work on the Detroit
Techno Militia record label and his remixes for Drugaci Exhibitions
have garnered him worldwide acclaim. DJ Seoul gives the crowd one
hundred percent every time he performs. This energy is clearly visible
and reciprocated by the audience and will bring this vibe into our
Scorpio basement !

T.Linder takes a no-nonsense, working-class approach to the art of
spinning records. If someone's going to pay money to hear me spin,
I'm going to make it worth their money. The way I look at it, there's
too many DJs out there meticulously and methodically blending records
that all sound the same. As a listener, I'm easily bored with that. I
like to take some risks when I perform, skipping across genres and
eras, doing scratch tricks with two copies of the same record. I want
to give the listener the experience of hearing something they haven't
heard before.

Der Mercenary was born and raised in Detroit, and since an early age,
he’s been influenced with the social and artistic movements, which
arose in that city. Heavily inspired by the early Detroit techno
culture, he began collecting records and DJ’ing in 1996. After a move
to Chicago in 1998, he began to spin at rave parties, clubs and radio
stations around the Midwest (Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis,
Milwaukee). In 2000, Der Mercenary began compiling his studio
equipment to produce his own techno music and started spinning
overseas in Europe.

After moving to Chicago and Europe, he moved back to Detroit in 2002 ,
where he acted as the Vice President of Mission: Detroit association –
organization dedicated to promoting electronic music and philanthropy
in the city of Detroit (www.missiondetroit.org).
Der Mercenary has performed in many different countries on numerous
occasions, playing at Triebwerk in Dresden ( Germany), Clues (
Belgium), Cologne (Camouflage), and Rewers and Paragraph 51 in Poland.
He tag-teamed with Kube72 (Ian Cheshire) for an official Movement 2003
afterparty, and played at just about every popular bar/club in Detroit
(including the Works, Corktown Café, O’Blivions, McCarthy’s pub,
Mission: Detroit, etc.) . In early 2004, der Mercenary moved to
Belgium.

Hi Collin,

Fuse is in Brussels, not too far from Leuven. In Leuven, there is:

http://www.dermachine.be/
http://www.silo.be/
http://www.rumba.be/

Machine is really a pub-turned-into-a-very-small-club with a very
varied musical programming: from Salsa over DnB/Jungle, hip Hop to
Electro/Techno/... It's pretty non-mainstream with a strong focus on
unknown talent. It's only been around for a couple of months too.
It's right in the centre of Leuven.

Silo has been around for years, although in different forms over the
years (due to various owners I believe). This is more of a club
(although, just like Machine, with an industrial look) with two rooms.
I haven't been there for over a year though, so I don't know
if things have changed recently.

Rumba Co occasionally has techno/electro nights.

Filip

(313) Recommendations for 1200s cartridges/styli

2006-08-13 Thread Filip Sneppe (Yucom)
Hi,

I am looking into replacing my Stanton 500 AL styli on my Technics
1200 turntables. In the past years as a bedroom DJ, I've enjoyed
doubling up records, aggressive mixing and scratching, so, after
having tried Shure M44-7s on a friend's turntables, I now find that
Stantons don't fit my mixing needs any more.

However, I am in doubt as to whether to go for M44-7s, or perhaps
go for some Ortofons. Basically, my two main criteria are maximum
stability and minimal record wear, and price isn't really that much
of an issue.

Not that I'm on par with these guys, but what do folks like Claude
Young, Mills, and Dave Clarke swear by ? I figure that, as far as
techno jocks go, they're sort of the ones that give 1200s a serious
run for their money.

Would any of you 313 people consider things like Ortofon Qberts for
techno DJs ? Any recommendations or experiences are welcome!

Thanks in advance,
Filip

(313) Old school acid track ID

2005-08-15 Thread Filip Sneppe
Hi,

(my first post to this list)
I am looking for the artist/trackname that is behind an old
acid track. I am guessing that the track must be at least
10-12 years old, but more likely from around '88/'89, as I've
come across it on retro DJ mixes with other tracks from
that era.

The first part of the song has some pitched-up vocals on it
that go like this:

We searched the world over, looking for a sound
a sound that ran deep, deep underground,
finally we found it, ending our quest,
a sound that jacked the house to its best.

Our search then continued, looking for a name,
a name that would claim all sorts of fame,
Finally we found it, ending our search,
a name that proved to us that it could really work.

We called the sound acid, a name that came to be,
a member in full of the house family,
so as we go on, jackin' to the groove,
we continue with the sound that makes your body move.

  ACID

  ACID

  ACID

  Let's jack the house.

Then the rest of the track is just some cool 303 melody
going berzerk.

I could only find one reference about this via google, and
it's of someone else asking for a track ID, like me:

(google cache)
http://216.239.59.104/search?q=cache:HIJtEN2wrs8J:www.rhythmism.com/forum/showthread.php%3Ft%3D6606+%22we+searched+the+world+over%22+looking+for+a+soundhl=en

Does anyone know the name of the track I am talking about ?

Thanks in advance,
Filip

2000-11-03 Thread Filip Sneppe
I saw this track on MTV a while ago during one of their megamixes on the
partyzone. It was I think between a Depeche Mode remix and a Violently
 Happy by Bjork remix.
The accompanying videoclip was something in the X-mix style and shows a
joker (jester) flying through some kind of alien planet, with flowers and
strange plants. It is a very melodic and funky techno track. Any ideas? It
might be on one of the X-mix vids.

Could it be from Sven Vaeth's The Harlequin, the Robot and the
Ballet-Dancer ?

2000-05-09 Thread Filip Sneppe
James,

It's a virus. Check http://www.cai.com/virusinfo/virusalert.htm#wscript and
search for a virus called KAK. According to CAI it's a Win 98 only virus.

While email has -for a long time- been considered virus-safe as long as
users didn't explicitly open or execute email attachement, this particular
virus makes use of mail readers capable of executing scripts embedded in
HTML. As such, opening a mail or merely using a mail client's preview option
could trigger the payload.

A quick web search gave me the following URL for Outlook Express users:
http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/ie/security/email.asp
You may want to read it if you want to disable executing HTML embedded
script in your mail client. Check the web for other mail clients...

Thanks to Kent for pointing this is out to the list.

Re:

Very important -- this guy's (ben1) email contains a virus that will fuck
your
 computer up if you're using any Windows-based mail reader -- I don't
think from looking through the source that it will permanently damage your
machine, but here's what it does

 1. Installs a program to run at Windows startup to re-infect your machine.
 2. Changes your e-mail signature to include HTML code that includes the
virus as a script. So anyone who gets the e-mail will be infected, and
can spread it.
 3. Makes a startup item that keeps windows from starting up.

To avoid being infected there is only one way in Outlook to get rid of the
message without showing the message and infecting your computer.

 1. Open the View menu and select layout (alt-v alt-l)
 2. Uncheck the 'Show preview pane' option.
 3. Hit OK.
 4. Look for any message from this guy:

 From: Ben1 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 To: 313 313@hyperreal.org
 Subject: (313) Carl Craig CD'S

And delete it WITHOUT DOUBLECLICKING ON THE MESSAGE FIRST!

 This is a REAL THREAT!

If you want to look at the text of the virus, it's at
 http://avalon.net/~kent/virus.txt

I replaced all occurrences of the SCRIPT tag with SCR*PT, so it
should be safe to look at, but DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK, ONLY IF
 YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING
