(313) Throbbing Gristle
Well I managed to track down the 'classic' Throbbing Gristle album '20 Jazz Funk Greats' and to be honest, I was SO disappointed with 90% of it, but to be fair it must have sounded amazing back in 1979. What did impress me was the synth's and sequencer action, from the sleeve notes these where down to Chris Carter can anyone point me to more of his electronic work?, any recommendations would be most welcome! and finally, does anyone have a copy of the Giorgio Moroder seminal electronic album 'E=mc2', lots to offer in return. (cdr would be great) thanks jason

We all know detroit music is amazing yeah? Just existing as a producer in detroit means you are living on a higher musical plane than the rest of us fools yeah? These detroit guys have an understanding of electronic music way above the rest of us? They are hearing stuff in the music that we don't (or can't)hear? Not only are they all fantastic producers but also philisophical poets? They understand how to complete the concept, not just with the music but by adding poetry, smell or visions? They know that only truly great records come vaccum packed? Extremely limited repressing of first only Planet E compilation. **Not new! Full stock now available** 13.99 any know the full track listing also worth a mention: THE OTHER PEOPLE PLACE FT. MYSTIC TRIBE: Sunday Night Live At The Laptop Cafe 12 (CLONE). Clone is proud to present this special project by the Other People Place! Since their amazing debut album on Warp we present a new release by this obscure act ft. another classic artist from Detroit called Mystic Tribe (previously known as Urban Tribe on labels such as Mowax, Planet E and the obscure Retroactive label). The Other People Place present 'Sorrow A Cup Of Joe' wich is a sweet moody house kind of track (wich is a kind of Moodymann meets Dopplereffekt) with warm chords and typical vocals. Mystic Tribe delivers an sweet melancolic broken beat track called 'Telepathic Seduction', with dusty sound and a warm prominent basslines as they did before on the before mentioned labels... reminds especially on their early works one Retroactive (together with Carl Craig). Urban Tribe (Or Mystic Tribe) can be seen as one of the founders of the broken beat/nu jazz/techno wich has an increasing group of addicts these days (Think Jazzanova, Domu, Recloose, John Arnold etc). 8.99 take care jason - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[313] metro times?
Morning all! Good friend recently posted over some Detroit stuff for me and included was a copy of the Metro times (May 29 - June 24, 2002). Now maybe I live a sheltered live but is it always this sexually explicit???, i.e. the Dan Savage column, the subject matter here was XXX rated, the Isadora column was X rated AND the fact the front cover was of a picture of a minor (well looks like a minor) with a her hand down her pants giving herself some sort of pleasure (didn't look like she wasn't enjoying herself) only goes to reinforce my point. Is it always like this and where can I get more? only kidding! Another point, seems to me theres a plenty going on in Detroit from all the advertised nites, maybe not 'underground dance' music, but still lots going on, I've always thought, from opinions stated on this list that Detroit is like a ghost town, seems not! to finish on a musical note: I can recommend the Deetron mix cd coming out on Music Man (might even be out) excellent mix with a healthy dose of Detroit modern and vintage classic tracks on it! (will post track listing later) thanks! jason - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[313] Inspirations/ Los Hermannos test pressing
For anyone who would like a sneak preview, Rub-A-Dub (Glasgow, UK) have just got in 3 test pressings of the new UR tracks, ask them nicely and they might just let you hear them, heres a review from my mate: Went to Rub-a-Dub today (to pick up Every Dog 3) and Barry had just taken delivery of 3 Submerge Test Pressings - the Mad Mike one (Inspirations) is amazing.Total quality. The Rolando one (Los Hermannos) I'm not too sure about - sounds great to begin with but the more I listened to it the more I think he's ripped off Mike Banks (very like World to World/Journey of the Dragons/Nation to Nation) and the other side sounds like it has bits of Jaguar through it.I'll still buy it when it comes out though.. And just for the record, Rub A Dub are selling Every Dog 3 for £22, so looks like Inner City are the cheapest in the UK! (just send the agreed amount paul, nothing larger than a £20 please) jason - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[313] mitch walcott
anyone got any further info on this one? (tracklisting?) WALCOTT, MITCH: Europa CD (AXIS/TOMORROW). . During the month of November and December, I wanted to take the tracks that I liked best from DEMF and put them all together on a CD. The dilemma was naming the project about a planet or moon and have it all make sense. Europa was the perfect candidate. After doing a lot of research, I found that someday we might actually send a spacecraft that will penetrate the ice to hopefully discover a subsurface ocean. The possibility that there may be life on Europa fit very well with my last track on the disc, which was to move the listener from a very dismal place, to a place of beauty. I did not want to specifically name the spacecraft going to Europa. There are many different teams out there right now, each with their own project name and idea of functionality. So, I decided to be somewhat vague so that the listener could use his/her imagination. My goal is for people to listen to this project and come away with interesting imagery in their minds. -- Mitch Walcott thanks jason - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[313] For those in the U.K.
If this has been posted already, sorry, I only get the digest. Tonight on Channel 4 at 11.05 p.m. PUMP UP THE VOLUME A TIME TO JACK! Pump Up the Volume traces the history and evolution of house music from its underground roots in Chicago and New York right up to its explosion as a global commercial phenomenon. The series features the key players, punters and places that made this sound happen. Travelling between Chicago and New York, the first programme goes right back to the roots of house in 1976. House grew from disco and then moved underground to a primarily gay, black and Latino club scene. This produced some of the greatest, pioneering musical innovators and DJs of the times, including Derrick May, Farley 'Jackmaster' Funk, and Marshall Jefferson. By focusing on the key clubs and their creators, Pump Up the Volume gives a taste of their recipe for success - non-stop dancing, drugs, dramatic DJs, and musical experimentation - which paved the way for house music and club culture. The programme also features Joey Beltram, DJ Pierre, Steve 'Silk' Hurley, Jamie Principle, and Joe Smooth. talk21 your FREE portable and private address on the net at http://www.talk21.com ___ global-techno mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.ffwd.cx/mailman/listinfo/global-techno FFWD internet - web hosting, custom programming and more - www.ffwd.cx - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [313] For those in the U.K.
heres what the Guardian had to say: 11.05pm Pump up the Volume New series. An exploration of house music, which has evolved from its early Seventies roots into a global and commercial phenomenon. The first episode concentrates on how it was adopted by a primarily gay, black, and Latino club scene. By concentrating on the success of the emerging clubs, the programme shows just how house music - along with its unique culture - became such a massive hit and a popular area for musical experimentation (888) jason At 10:56 13/11/01 +, Toby Frith wrote: I believe it's a three part series.
