The best era of Detroit techno IMO. Countless good records from this time.

All the 7th City stuff from that time
Elevate Records releases
Detroit by way of Kalamazoo (Sonic Mind Records stuff by D Knox, Black Nation
Records stuff by Jay Denham)
Dan Curtin's stuff from the mid 90s was my favorite stuff he did.
Stasis (everything by Steve Pickton)
Nuron / B12 / Kirk D / The Black Dog
Nu Era
These are just a few...

To David's original question C.Y. had a 7th city release as well. Acid Wash
Conflict which is one of the few 7th city releases I own. I have something
from Shake as well.

Way to be on point Benn!

Jeff Mills released Waveform Transmissions Vol 1 on Tresor in 1992.
There were subsequent releases by Rob Hood in the Waveform Transmission series,
with him releasing Vol 2 in 1993 and Mills releasing Vol 3 in 1994.

that's cool, but they still have a ways to go -- they claim their catalog is
a fairly accurate representation of their stock, but i got ~ 40% fill on my
order there just last week -- and one of the records they sent me was the
wrong one, which i've now sent back for (hopefully) a replacement for the
correct one. by contrast, once i got a wrong record from planet-x, they
refunded it's price and just let me keep it, which was much less hassle, and
hey free record for their foul-up..

i think there are 3 main shops that really have it together -- accurate

find most everything i'm after:

http://dancerecords.com -- they chose a good name! sane prices ($9/$10
imports, $7 domestics), insane shipping prices (free over $50, 2-day air for
$5...what!), completely realtime stocklist, nice built-in re-ordering and
pre-ordering system, and a big catalog...choice! i am really excited about

http://submerge.com -- oh yes! pricey shipping for small orders but
if you do a big order it's very reasonable, and bridgette is the best

http://emporium50.com -- detroit house mecca! havent actually ordered
there but friends have and speak highly!

http://planetxusa.com -- not exactly realtime stocklist, but pretty
close, nice for findin stuff the first 3 might be out of stock
on...just picked up shez satan here for $2.34 :P

just thought i'd share some tips, there's no excuse to not buy records

Maybe this is too obvious to mention, but mail-ordering from Submerge is
great! Bridgette Banks held some records for me ever since DEMF, and
e-mailed me to ask if I still wanted them -- 13 weeks later. I called in
with my credit card number, and they went out the same day.
And they have pretty much everything you'd ever want in the way of Detroit
electronic music, including things that can't be found anywhere else.

So I'm anxiously awaiting what may be the last copies anywhere of SID 1-3,
and DJ 3000's new CD...

end as well. He played some Paperclip People stuff earlier, some Mills (The

track from Martin Buttrichs's new release on Planet E.

It was nice to see some head out as the weather did suck. RS was not what

well, i wish i could say it was a blast, but i missed all but the last half
hour of c2's set :(

it was raining and nasty all afternoon driving down, and about the first
thing i hear once i get to the dancefloor is strings of life.
carl was letting every track play out, so he only dropped two or three more
tracks by the time 7PM rolled around and rhythm and sound came on. they
played all dub tracks as expected (some people i have talked to since were
apparently expecting rs to play techno). i don't even think they played any
of their own stuff. they never really mixed between tracks; they'd just cut
real quick or turn out the huge wall of sound effects. sound system was
great, much better than the crummy system at the providence noise fest the
night before :)

RE: (313) HIGH TECH SOUL DVD

2006-07-18 Thread Jason Trolian
Now we're movie critics? Might come as a shocker to some but Scorsese and
Stone turned down the opportunity to direct or even fund Hi Tech Soul.

Are some of us that self righteous and petty that we must cut down
everything that is attempting to make a difference? Outside this list most
of the world knows nothing about Detroit, it's influence on Electronica or
the people that made it happen. You are going to criticize a documentary
calling it shoddy? Really, name one that isn't kind of shoddy (please don't
you dare reference a Michael Moore documentary here). If you must wage an
attack on what I will call reference material, then do so because it fails
to provide facts or because it is biased.

I personally haven't had the opportunity to see it. I personally can't
wait. When I do see it I will take it for what it's worth...a low budget
film. I will take what I can learn from it and pump it to all these kids
that think this music culture is about drugs, fashion and who's been to more
parties.

So I ask, can anyone that has seen this film tell us about the content?

I (and some people on this list) went to see this film in London last year.

HIGH TECH SOUL is the first documentary to tackle the deep roots of
techno music alongside the cultural history of Detroit, its birthplace.
From the race riots of 1967 to the underground party scene of the

I havent chimed in at all on this subject, due to the fact that Ive just
switched jobs and Im moving tomorrow and the COUNTLESS other things that
have my life upside down, but Ill give me .02 now.

I realize that for alot of you, the fest has morphed into something else
(for better, or for worse). I, for one, don't see this as a bad thing. It
may not be your idea of detroit, but for what is going on in detroit right
now, it's pretty accurate. Paxahau has put together a pretty solid lineup
that covers most of the bases from before. in some areas, it just scratches
the surface, but at the very least, theres alot of great music.
I dont know... I get where you are all coming from with the whole theyve
turned it into a typical rave thing, but lets be honest... look at the
festivals that are put on all around the world. Dont you feel this has more
to offer than, say... timewarp? Or even I Love Techno? I do. Its more
diverse than either of those, and with overall MUCH better music! (I dont
see any Happy Hardcore on there..)

And they did a pretty solid job of getting the next waves of Detroit
producers on there. Theres a couple others I wouldve liked to have seen
added, but I also see plenty that should have played YEARS ago (see: Jared
Wilson, Brian Kage, etc).

Thats all I can say on the subject. Im going... plain and simple. I hope
alot of you do the same, but I can see why not. I re-listed the lineup,
listing what all I am excited about, and to me... thats a good time!

I hope to see you there!

derek.

(313) Track ID

2006-03-07 Thread Jason Trolian

This goes back about 10 years at least. Heard the track played by Adam X at
a party in Boston. It was kind of a catchy sound. If I had to guess it was
a release from Germany (similar sound) but not sure at all. The hook was a
female voice sample saying the means of total destruction then a dark
voice would chime in with Atom Bomb..Atom Bomb. Hope someone can help
with this.

Thanks in advance,

It's the mighty DJ Pierre- Atom Bomb on the Uk's Guerilla records from the
early 90's- still kicks like a mule!
