Re: (313) EZMLM problem
We have the same issues with Google Groups for our corporation. I would highly recommend against using it unless they fix the spam filtering procedures. On Sat, Apr 26, 2014 at 9:06 AM, Fred Heutte ph...@sunlightdata.com wrote: I don't recommend changing to googlegroups. My office uses it extensively for staff and external lists and we are finding intermittent but persistent issues with delivery delays ranging up to 48 hours. Apparently the internal spam filtering there is very sensitive to small changes in text or delivery patterns and implements holds of varying lengths. Our inquiries to Google have, of course, not been answered. Fred - Mailman 2.1.16 has the Threadable change. On Fri, Apr 25, 2014 at 10:12 AM, kent williams chaircrus...@gmail.com wrote: Apparently there is a problem with something called DMARC that big e-mail providers are implementing. I've quoted the e-mail from Brian Behlendorf (who is the man behind hyperreal.org) on the subject. The big problem is people with yahoo.com e-mail addresses. The way EZMLM works is that it takes your e-mail and resends it to all the list members. Any mail server implementing DMARC rejects e-mails where the FROM: address is x...@yahoo.com, but it doesn't come from a yahoo mail server. This has resulted in people getting bounce notices from hyperreal. It has happened to me, and I don't even have a yahoo.com e-mail address. Bottom line is the hyperreal team is working on a solution, but this will likely screw up 313 emails for the near term. If you're an e-mail list wizard and can suggest a linux based mailing list server that can circumvent this stupidity, please let me and (br...@hyperreal.org) know. - If you list is still active and hasn't been swept away by folks moving to Facebook or whatever, you might have heard complaints from yahoo.comusers, or possibly even folks who have started to see strange bounces where yahoo.com senders are involved. This is due to a current hullabaloo about an anti-spam tech called DMARC and Yahoo's recent and strict implementation of it. http://thehackernews.com/2014/04/yahoos-new-dmarc-policy-destroys-every.html DMARC is a system designed to allow domain owners to specify policies and rules regarding how to deal with email from senders using that domain. For example, for an email with a From header like: From: Brian brianbehlend...@yahoo.com Yahoo published a policy that says unless that email came from Yahoo's servers, it should be rejected. This is a great anti-spam technique given that lots of spammers use yahoo.com addresses fraudulently (I guess?). But what it means for senders to mailing lists like those we host at Hyperreal, when that mail goes through Hyp and comes back to Yahoo's servers, it bounces. Not only that, but that Yahoo sender's mail bounces at Gmail and other mail service providers who implement DMARC. Those bounces can cause chaos, of course. Ezmlm/qmail will keep track of those bounces and at least let subscribers know they're missing messages and why, and shouldn't unsub those users automatically, but it still causes chaos. More details on technically why this is wrong: http://www.ietf.org/mail-archive/web/ietf/current/msg87153.html Yahoo appears to not get why this is a big deal: http://yahoo.tumblr.com/post/82426971544/an-update-on-our-dmarc-policy-to-protect- our-users There is no good fix here. Changing the From: header to say something like From: Brian Behlendorf via sfra...@hyperreal.org seems wacky, but it's what Threadable did, specifically for DMARC-checking recipients and DMARC-policy-publishing sender domains: http://blog.threadable.com/how-threadable-solved-the-dmarc-problem Sadly, though, no open source mailing list manager has implemented this well. Mailman seems to have implemented this partially, but no one's even talking about this for ezmlm and I doubt it'll happen. I've not decided whether to move the Hyperreal mailing lists to Mailman or something else, but clearly we need to move off of ezmlm anyways. I was hoping to be able to choose between a couple of them, but now that choice seems much more narrow (and not necessarily the best - Sympa was looking promising too). Anyways - I am sad that this is how things have played out, that I can't provide a quick resolution to this. For now all I can suggest is asking youryahoo.com users to switch to another domain if they want to participate. But that sucks as an answer. If anyone has better ideas (or programming/migration talent to contribute) let me know. -- matt kane twitter: the_real_mkb / nynexrepublic http://hydrogenproject.com

(313) Carl Craig in Dubai - 20 May 2010
The odds of someone moving here since I last mentioned it is slim...but Carl Craig is playing the Rooftop @ Madinat Jumairah 20/5/2010 AED 100 entrance (ladies free before 23:00) http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?165661 Anyone out here and in for the Rooftop? And what about DJ Shadow, where would he be without Stanley Clarke and others? The general rule is that no one sues over uncleared samples if there's not enough money at stake. If you think your track is going to blow up and be played on the radio and sell thousands of units, then I'd worry. Well, I'd worry before the track blows up, because the time to get clearance is before it comes to the attention of the license holder. PS in most country uncleared sampling is a violation of copyright. A law that can't distinguish between Will Smith's Men In Black and Moodyman's Shades of Jae is just stupid. Re: (313) OT in pocket: Does anybody know about record shopping in india?
Sam Shipping in/out of India (or anywhere in this region) is a nightmare. You will pay a ton, but use DHL or FedEx (I'm in Dubai and haven't seen a UPS truck yet). The next step would be for you to pack it - like...really overly crazy pack it. Then, when you go to the FedEx Kinko's - have them put their packaging over it, including cushioning. I would also recommend putting a plastic bag inside of your packaging, putting your records in that bag and sealing it. It is not uncommon for packages to be left in the rain. And insure it. Umm. yeah. The main reason for this is because you have a box that is outside of normal regulations (size/weight). This isn't america or western europe, as I'm sure you are aware. Good luck in Bangalore. Be safe - there have been a rash of violent acts towards westerners up north, and it is quickly spreading south. -Mike On Mon, May 18, 2009 at 9:04 AM, Samuel Karmel samuel.kar...@gmail.com wrote: Hi As part of a spiritual enrichment exercise i am traveling to india -specifically bangalore I want to buy up various late 70s - 80s bollywood soundtracks on wax...peepz like bappi lahiri (disco dancer) some of the production is wacko synth madness. (313) Middle East + Techno

Re: (313) beatport awards -- denver club ...
Beta Nightclub (http://www.betanightclub.com) is a few blocks from my loft (Beta is at 19th and Blake in Denver). The space was formerly called Rise and was a latin dance music club. Sadly, the space is in the center of what I call frat row. I went to Rise a few times with friends and it was just that - frat boys with booty-dancing women. I'm betting Beta will take about 6 months to get off the ground and nail its target market. For the early days, I bet the same frat boys looking to get laid will frequent the place --even though $15/nightly cover will deter them a bit. Tonight's the Z-Trip VIP opening night. And Saturday is the Steve Bug opening night ($25). Tempting to head down, but I'm cautious that beyond the cover, the (probably) expensive drinks will keep me away, sadly. I really hope it takes off, but by the time it doesI'll be gone. -m On Wed, Mar 19, 2008 at 7:47 PM, kent williams [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: You can vote on the Beatport awards at http://www.beatportal.com/awards -- it's mostly kind of Detroit un-friendly, and the whole idea of 'best hard house producer' is kind of like 'kindest murderer' as a category, but there's a couple of categories you can vote for 313-lister Chymera (Brendan Gregoriy) who is a good guy in addition to being an ace producer in the techno vein. Wynn Win Club: 5F, Plaza 66, 1266 Nanjing Lu near Shaanxi Nan Lu ( 南京西路1266号(陕西路口)恒隆广场 5 搂) - uber high class club from Steve Wynn (the mega casino owner who owns the new Wynn Hotel in Vegas). Expect to spend way too much money having too good of a time and finally... Barbarossa: 231 Nanjing Xi Rd, Peoples Park, behind Starbucks / next to the Shanghai Art Museum. Walk into the gate next to the Kathleen's and follow the path. near Huangpi Road (南京西路231号,人民公园内) - www.barbarossa.com.cn - AMAZING club in the middle of People's Park (imagine a huge 3 story club in the middle of Central Park that is bumping every night of the week). Re: (313) Re: United Arab Emirates Techno/House?
Currently they have a thriving club scene, probably due to the number of expatriates living in Dubai and Abu Dhabi (only 19% of the people living in the UAE are Emirati - with the majority of those expats being from southern India). The big name clubs are: http://www.peppermint-club.com/ The Peppermint Club - Timos Maas and Armin Van Buren are playing in the coming weeks http://www.dubailook.com/trilogy.html Trilogy Dubai -- Terry Francis played recently. Cloud 9 and Zinc are also supposed to be pretty nice. There are probably another 50-80 clubs there doing electronic dance music - but I'm not finding much information because of the Islamic influence. Dubai and Abu Dhabi have very relaxed laws towards westereners - liquor, dance clubs, dress, everything. except drugs. Get caught and you won't be coming back for a while. Sure, it is a dress to impress kind of place, but sometimes there are gems in these clubs. -mike On 11/16/06, Guilherme Menegon Arantes [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On Wed, Nov 15, 2006 at 09:37:58AM -0700, Mike Davis wrote: If anyone is from the UAE on this list, can you email me back?
