[313] demf card bs
How great is the demf card? Discounts at starbucks? What does starbucks have to do with electroinc music? Though it looks like they made a killing off the so called limited card By Adam Graham / The Detroit News DETROIT--While the Detroit Electronic Music Festival is a free-to-all event, festival promoter Pop Culture Media is touting a $30 All Excess Card as a bigger, better way to experience the festival. The All Excess Card entitles its bearers to discounts at Starbucks, C-Pop Gallery and the downtown Comfort Inn, which is already booked for the weekend. But the card's biggest selling point is access to what's billed as exclusive on-site VIP party areas, DEMF artist meet-and-greets, complimentary soft drinks and the use of private restrooms. Pop Culture Media has sold more than 2,000 of the cards, and will sell up to 10,000. We did it because the demand was there, says Tolly Marcus, director of marketing for Pop Culture Media. People wanted to be able to buy VIP access to the festival. Card-holders will be corralled between the DEMF Main Stage and the CPOP/Detroit Free Press Stage. The area is pretty wide open, says Tolly Marcus, director of marketing for Pop Culture Media. It's designed to process a lot of people. Kelli Hand, DEMF board member, says she doesn't see the necessity of the card. What's the sense of having them when everything is supposed to be free? she says. Though the cards are billed as being limited in quantity, Hand says, 2,000 doesn't sound limited to me. I thought 100 would be limited. DEMF-goer Matthew Peabody of Grosse Pointe isn't willing to buy a card just yet. I like the idea of it, says Peabody, 25, who has yet to miss a day at the DEMF, but I'm not sure I want to shell out for it this year. To meet the DJs would obviously be cool, and free soda is always a plus, but this weekend, my money's going elsewhere. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[313] Drexciya interview WDET FM
Did anyone catch the Drexciya interview last night on 101.9 WDET? A pretty vague interview I though, and Liz seemed kind of intimidated, but Drexciya was not helping or elaborating by any means. Pretty cool that She actually got him on the show. Looks like possibly the first and last radio interview. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[313] RE:dodgy Canton promoters
Hello, sorry to drag this topic on, but what the hell is planet raver? I think the Detroit scene has hit an all time low. Was this supposed to be a motor cross raver event? Just when you though the parties around could not get any trashier. No offense to Fred with these comments, but this whole thing sounded retarded. I think this is a prime example of how cheesy the whole scene has gotten. These people booked me, signed a contract, never paid the deposit, never return phone calls, encountered problems with city officials and canceled the event. If they had any class they would have forfeited the deposit instead of just screwing up my scheduling and finances. And they still haven't taken down their website. http://www.techmotofest.com/lineup.html I repeat I will NOT be appearing @ this event. Re: [313] DEMF no Ritchie Hawtin!!
So why is Derrick May there once again? Just a question. the organizers were aware that if they simply rehashed last years lineup, the festival would lose some of it's luster. Re: [313] DEMF no Ritchie Hawtin!!
Is it just me or does Derrick May tend to play the same records all the time? I would just say buy his mix Cd and thats all you need. I sure wish I would produce more music rather than djing all the time, but I am guessing the money is too good. Hey now! I'm psyched as hell too! I'm proud to live in the state of the orig ination of my favorite type of music. Tons of sweet dj's and groups will perfor m and I can't wait! I'm just saying... no Ritchie. Doesn't that blow? =) BTW I never saw Derrick May last year so I'm psyched about that for sure. Mills
My favorite Jeff Mills track is the Extremist on Tresor Records(Tresor #51 ?) I think it is the original version that is my favorite, though I have not played it in a while. Roger --
Detroit Records
As far as rare records I own, I have an old Blake Baxter record on Incognito records from about 1989. I also have a Chesire #2 record, for all the people around Detroit who know what Chesire was. I saw a blue vinyl Chesire #? at the store once but didnt pick it up. Also Jeff Mills 9A and 9B but around here they are not that rare. I have an accelerate #001 record that I was it was rare but am not sure. I also have a 1 sided Probe record, track X or something. I dont know how rare these are but I dont think they are exactly stellar records song wise. As far as records that I am into now, I really like the USER, ABUSER stuff. Roger --
carl craig at cranbrook
I also so saw Carl Craig at Cranbrook a few summers ago, it was pretty interesting, especially seeing all those old flyers. Robert Hood, (I think so) was also supposed to play one night but cancelled. Who was the other group that played on another night? I forgot the name. They need to do stuff like that more often. I also forgot the name of the famous drummer playing with Carl Craig, I think he had played with Sun Ra at one time, my memory sure is growing weak. --
Detroit records
In an attempt to break up child games and all the fighting that has been going on in the list, I have a question to all. What is the Rarest record that you own and most favorite Detroit related record that you own? I know a lot of people get early release white labels, but I am talking about those that might have never been released, dubplates, etc.. --
Minimal Nation
I bought a copy of Minimal Nation by Rob Hood on CD about 3 years ago in Ann Arbor Michigan. I think Tresor re-released it just recently. Roger --
Re: [313]DEMF--Attendacne figures
Did you see the guy counting all the people in the crowd on top of the Ren-Cen? He spent all day counting the people who came. He might have missed a few people who were behind some tres, or counted some people twice, but he did a good job. ummm, ok - is anyone else not quite sure about these numbers? 750,000 seems to be a super high number to me, especially considering that we parked less than 2 blocks away all weekend. how many people come down to the fireworks every year? i thought that number was around a million, and when there are that many people downtown it's packed crazy can't move can't park can't breath. trust me, i'm not dissing the attendance - it was amazing - but i'm just wondering if these numbers aren't a little high? g well, from what I understand from the article in the newspaper this morning, the city isnt allowed to count officially...but the estimated figure was 900,000 plus. You have to decrease that a little a bit for triple counts (example:i went all three days,so perhaps I was count three times). d From: James Bucknell [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: [313]DEMF--Attendacne figures Date: Tue, 30 May 2000 16:48:37 -0400 Just wondering if anybody had a source ofr official attendacne figures. thanks james - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] --
Re: [313] demf cancellations/ me neither - influences
How come DJ T1000 is not at the DEMF?? Booked somewhere else that weekend? I sure hope so, Roger --
(313) Pacou Tresor #138
I picked up the newest Pacou release Tresor #138 recently and find it to be very similiar to Jeff Mills and Surgeon. I know they make the same type of music but Pacou's new record has identical FM sounds and structure. The vinyl version does come with a limited 7 inch with 2 songs, one of which I swear is from a mills release and sounds like it was made completely with a tg-33. I feel that Pacou's first release was much more original sounding and better, but I still like the stuff he puts out. Any thoughts?? Roger
(313) Mills and detroit
When was the last time Jeff Mills played a party in Detroit? I remember he was on a flyer for a party at St. Andrews a few Christmas's ago, but was not there, unless I missed him. Besides that I know he played Grand Rapids 2 summers ago. Don't know when else he has come recently unless he just showed up somewhere unannounced.
