Great stuff. Old school vibe.

I found this Soundcloud page with some interesting electro, which had a
Bandcamp release. It sounds a lot like something Gerald Donald might be
part of... Maybe not but I just wondered if anyone knew more about it?

It's pretty good anyway. It appeared to be released yesterday.

I suppose that shouldn't be a surprise to me, but I didn't know. That
makes some sense though. It seems almost impossible for most people to
make money making music these days.

It would have been great to be a producer during the 90's. I bought a
lot of vinyl then too.

It's remarkable how limited a lot of electro vinyl releases would seem
to be currently. It looks like releases of just 100-250 records for even
the most well known artists. Good releases have some rarity, yet demand
is not what it was either.

Thanks for this Alasdair. I found it interesting. I got a SYSTEM-1 and I am
interested in PLUG-OUT synths - the mix of software and hardware etc. I hope
that they will continue to release them.

Commons music and remix projects

2015-03-19 Thread Steve Robertson
I am inspired mostly by a period in electronic music between 1990 and
2001. I am deeply interested in Detroit electro & techno music,
especially Underground Resistance, Jeff Mills, Drexciya, DJ K-1, Aux 88,
as well as great British artists such as Neil Landstrumm and Aphex Twin,
among many others. I started to make music a couple of years ago and I
reached a point where I now feel as much lost as I feel I found my sound
(I'm still at a loss to know what exactly my next track will be).

I posted all what I have to share on my Soundcloud page
(https://soundcloud.com/kerr-knoll) with 24-bit audio (44.1 kHz)
downloads and an explicit creative commons license, to mix & share
non-commercially. Music to be shared freely. I'll be making completely
new tracks in the future. All of these are free and I am comfortable
with that.

I'd go further and offer commercial rights to remix projects. The
details of that would need to be discussed but in principle I would
welcome commercial remixes that were authorised by me and I would not
expect a share of royalties. I've no idea if that sort of arrangement
exists already, but folk in the business should be able to figure it out
if there's an interest. As well as the downloads available on Soundcloud
I can provide additional assets on request.

Please share with anyone that might be interested in either the tracks
or the remix opportunity.

Thanks

Steve

I've set up a Discourse site in the hope that you may find it interesting
or otherwise simply for my own personal curiosity. It's been a bit quiet
around here and if Facebook is now where the conversations are then I'm
also missing out. Maybe I've never found a better forum for music than the
313 list, but my personal interest is more generally underground electronic
music, and UR as an inspiration.

https://disco.k-os.net/ (Discourse @ K-os.net)

Feel free to post your SoundCloud things there (it has support for
embedding players too), if you want to (anything goes). I'll keep the site
up if there's enough interest to keep it going.

It's all set-up with email integration and good security for passwords etc,
but also allowing folk to use Twitter or Google, or even Yahoo for
authentication, and Facebook if I can get that to work. Currently Facebook
login is disabled.

This sits on it's own virtual dedicated server, supports mobile browsers
and things. Worth evaluating if you are interested in that sort of thing.
I'd help out if there's interest in setting something up specifically for
313.

I suspect mailing lists could still out-live Facebook. I hope so anyway,
otherwise for something better ;)

Oops!
I mean "discordant" =)

Still the tune eludes me. It was sort of the last track (before "one more
tune") but I'm pretty sure I've heard it before. Possibly when Richie Hawtin
played in Brighton sometime late last year.

[313] An amazing twisted melodic tune I heard...

2002-05-09 Thread Steve Robertson
A couple of weeks ago I was out in Aberdeen (Scotland) to the Richie Hawtin
vs. Luke Slater night and I just have to try and find out what that 2nd last
track Richie Hawtin used is. If you've heard it I hope you can guess what
I'm talking about here - it had a kind of disocrdian sound that starts out
of tune and drifts in to be quite melodic in it's own twisted way. I
absolutely loved it and would love to know what it is any ideas anyone?
