Re: [313] Re: Jaguar Video

2000-10-18 Thread WiKidfLaVa313
What I've found with people who aren't into techno with Jaguar is most enjoy
it. I've even sent tapes of just random good tracks to my friends in Florida
and many of them enjoy this track. Some just start asking questions like
what is this genre. Some think its music to sophisticated for them. One of
my friends who is really into breaks/trance thought he should be drinking a
martini to it. Others just beg to barrow it and the remixes or even to buy
it of me but of course I refuse. You can't contain something that is that
good. Yes there will be people who will not respect the track as many of us
will, but to those who start asking questions because they heard it and then
grow to respect and love the music we all do thats great. If they don't
truly like the music than it will pass. They will listen to it for a while
and then it will make its way back to a stack of cds that they don't listen
to anymore and they will forget about it.
If I was watching MTV and into that mostly garbage music I would be glad
someone put Jaguar on it as compared to something by lets say Sonique or
Alice deejay or one of those trendy producers. Maybe Jaguar will reach my
brother by way of MTV and he'll stop listening to the mainstream trash rap or
reach my sister and make her stop being obsessed by those boy bands and their
music they don't make. As much as I don't like Jaguar being broadcasted on
MTV I'm not going to complain because there is good that can come from it.

Re: [313] R: [313] women and electronic music

2000-10-06 Thread WiKidfLaVa313
I really just think it has to do with the way most males look down at woman
in general, and how some woman don't take how society wants them to look act
and everything eles into consideration. I currently am the only girl out of
16 guys to be taking a Cisco networking class at my high school. I am one of
the girls that frequently gets pushed out of the way while trainspotting and
the way djs are moving their hands or twisting knobs. Many guys I just meet
snub me out of conversations for a while till I spit some knowledge. Not
only am I a girl but I'm also 17 so I get looked down upon by other woman a
little bit older. I love when some guy looks through my crate and is like
ummm whoa u have nice records u actually have some techno. Then after having
to earn my friendships with those more elitest guys I have to answer the
other females who always think that I'm stealing their man or something
because they don't see many girls in the techno scene nor do alot of them
understand that I can have a conversation about music or djing techniques or
something that doesn't involve anything sexual at all. I know this doesn't
hold true for all guys and all girls but for a great deal it does. Maybe if
there are any of u on this list quick to nudge a girl out so u can get a bit
closer to the dj(this happened much at recordtime last week) take a second
and think...maybe there are some girls out there who actually know a thing or
two and aren't just looking at how hot the dj is or standing taking up space
next to their boyfriend.

I believe this is the cd friend played for me. I wasn't around the case but
it was absolutly amazing. I definetly recommend at least hearing this
release especially track 8. I didn't even get to hear the whole thing but
what I did hear was some of the best production I've heard in a while.
Anything on vinyl Sean?

Re: [313] Hell or Afrika Bambaataa

2000-06-11 Thread WiKidfLaVa313
On a more recent trip to a Detroit party earlier this year I was not
extremely thrilled with his preformance either. Bambaataa opened with many
Aphrodite tracks but again just really playing the records no incredible
mixing at all. He then precedeed to drop some breaks and I do mean fl anthem
breaks and even worse was they were the tracks they played on the played on
the radio every 5 min there. He did then throw in some more mainstream hip
hop. Maybe one or two electro tracks. I didn't pay all that close attention
to his set though because it was very generic. I was expecting much more and
he hardly delivered at all. I know many people that could mix those many
Aphrodite tracks with more talant than he did that night. Maybe he was off
or wasn't in the mood but I wasn't really impressed and neither were others.

that zoraks party review

2000-06-11 Thread WiKidfLaVa313
This was posted on another list by one of the people that played last
night...I figured since this party recieved so much discussion the review is
in order...I guess I'm glad I stayed away from it except for Aux 88 and Kevin.

Oh my lord, I feel for anyone who came to Zoraks.

Maybe its just me, but that party was fucking AWFUL.

Sure there were like 1500 people, but most of them were cheezy ass
abercrombie fitch wearin, Bud-Lite chuggin (oh yes there were tons of
jock frat boys with their shirts unbuttoned dancin with a bud lite in
one hand). And it was like 150 degress inside the whole time (gee,
climate control?). The sound was pretty much shit in both rooms (st
andrews sound, definately no 40,000 watts of turbosound - ESPECIALLY
upstairs). The music was pretty much shit. In the main room i heard
recloose who, well i didnt really enjoy to say the least - very
musical but very boring as well. I guess if your into that kinda
stuff. Then i think it was Nelz, who was actually pretty decent (not
really my style of music - but he did know how to keep some energy in
it), then some sorry ass jungle dj playing for a while trainwrecking
every mix, then we had Aux 88 who I didnt really catch much of, but
wasnt really that into either. Juan atkins played some good music, but
COMPLETELY trainwrecekd EVERY mix beyone beleif (either he doesnt try or
he really doesnt know how to mix , it was pretty bad). By the time kevin
saunderson came on (who was rippin some shit up) i was ready to die from
heat stroke so we left. And well Im not really gonna comment to deeply
on the music upstairs - I'd love to hear anyones review of my set who
were there, but it was exactly what i expected. 90% of the kids had a
MC505 and played some presets, most of the sets were almost nauseatingly
boring. Like the same ONE boring rigit beat with like 1 droning sound
going on for 30 minutes and like maybe a few snare drum fills every 16
bars. Then of course nobody thought to bring a mixing board but me so we
had everyone using my board all night and nobody apparently had a clue
about how to run sound because every time i came back up they had stuff
pluggin into the wrong inputs, the levels all cranked up to max so the
sound was pure distortion coming from the speakers...(granted the sound
system was weak as hell upstairs, but when it sucks its not gonna be
better just cuz its louder). Then of course there was no planning or
effort into any of the upstairs lineup, time slots, people were just
unpluggin each others shit so they could play, there was NOWHERE near
enough room to play, i think only about half the live pas even showed up
(i think there were like 3 or 4 downstairs and like 6 or 7 upstairs).
did i mention it was like 1000 degrees? what a fiasco. This will more
than likely be the last party i play for those guys.

Re: [313] help me i am drowning here

2000-05-30 Thread WiKidfLaVa313
You have to remember what state he is talking about. In Florida if its not
breaks, prog house, ragga jungle, or prog trance no one will listen to you.
There used to be a few 'underground' stations on am but those have since gone
off the radio. Electronic music down there is ususally drug and rave
related. Theres not even things like deep house or funky disco house for
that matter. I go and visit central fl where I used to live many times a
year and I always basicly have to force people to listen to the 313
techno/electro I bring for them. They have caught onto ghetto tech but now a
few have been asking me for tapes and cds which is a start. It will be very
hard to bring actual techno into the central fl area. Techno to people down
there is breaks or any other type of electronic music. Most have no
knowledge to an actual genre of techno. They have just started catching on
to 'plasticman' as they spell it.
My best advice is to give some tapes out to the club promoters and tell
them to listen to it and keep listening to it over and over untill they like
it. Once you have them liking your stuff then you will get others to. Much
luck to whoever in Fl now is trying hard to bring any other type of music
into Fl because it will be a fairly difficult task.

2000-05-09 Thread WiKidfLaVa313
alright i really would like to not get into this again but i guess i
will...i'm a 17 yr old white female from the suburbs sorry i happen to love
music...and sorry i can't get into clubs like having to listen to Adam Beyer
on the radio and not being able to be at Motor was not fun or staying home
for Carl Cox or any of those other amazing djs that I love just because I
guess when I'm 18 something will click over night and make me more mature or
whatever. I know most of my friends who are under 18 can spit out the whole
history of whatever genre they like and truly respect the whole idea of the
music and parties more than that 21 yr old sittin in the corner rubbing vicks
all over them saying how cool the music sounds while rolling. Its more about
maturity than an age. The reason why My friends and I continue going to
raves and not clubs some nights to see certain djs is the fact we just aren't
allowed but the 21 yr old who slips ghb into girls drinks is acceptable.
The news here is totally making things seem what they are not. Yes alot of
kids do go for drugs but alot of adults to also. If I had to sit around at a
high school house party I would probably do an insane amount of drugs but
once I go to a rave or actually get into a club I just don't see the need to
do drugs. Not all people under the age of 18 do drugs when they attend
parties and I guess I'm just sick of everyone saying I'm not welcome because
of my age. Yes I missed a bust free night at science but you also missed a
bust free loft party minus the rave bs like glowstix and shht and another
party that was also bust free. I don't understand why age upsets so many
people. Age ain't nothin but a number
