Re: Michael James vs Derrick May
that's crazy...despite any validity of his claims, he is super obsessing and really looks to be trying to make a name by being the one to break the story (if there is one)...If women start coming out about it, that would totally change things...I know Eddie Folks has little love for DM...dunno about Blake Baxter or anyone else who he says has made 2nd hand accusations. I really only scanned the threads, but the thing that lost it for me was in his later posts talking about possibly getting killed and outing DM's personal assistant and demanding they meet on his terms etc. which really slaps of drama stirring and paranoia. I'd never heard of the dude til now and this is the only reason why I have and that's prob. the point of all this. I've been in the Detroit scene since like 98 and know ppl, ppl who know ppl. etc. and have witnessed and heard first hand witness accounts of a good number of things I won't bring up, but he's never been on the radar. Not to say it didn't happen but also this guy obviously has a screw or five loose with no real evidence or victim accounts and a little too much energy (also that whole Nude Photo/Thomas Barnet thing seems ludicrous). The whole thing is a super immature and an unprofessional way to go about it, even if there is any validity. Thanks for bringing it to attention though, it's interesting to see what comes out of the woodwork...can't wait to see what Jan. of 2021 brings :) On Fri, Jan 31, 2020 at 3:29 PM U Design wrote: > When I lived overseas I saw Derrick way more than I do living here in > Detroit. The advert just played on Fox, during Malcolm in the Middle Very cool. Reminds me a bit of Chris Cunningham's Second Bad Vilbel video. -d.w.

I've met with Claude on a number of occasions - he hates that mix - he says he was massively restricted in the tracks he could use and that it isn't a true representation of his mixing style and anyone who has seen this master will agree. If I recall correctly, what happened was that !K7 approached him about doing a mix CD, and asked him what kind of cuts he'd want to use in the mix. He gave them an informal list more or less of the top of his head, and !K7 went ahead and paid to license the tracks without confirming with him. As a result, he ended up having to use the tracks they'd already paid for. -d.w.

DEMF Schedule to go (was Re: demf site suggestion)
Hope this doesn't step on any toes... Whaddya think about this paragraph where the mad coiner just about busts a blood vessel hyphenating shit? In the tradition of hardcore and jungle before it, London's garage scene works as a gigantic laboratory, a permutation space where new hyphenated hybrids and creole micro-genres flicker into life for a few months or even just weeks, then disappear: speed garage, slow jungle, ska-house, acid swingbeat, hyper-funk, breakbeat garage, disco-ragga, grunge dub, riddim blues, electro-gamelan, divas-in-the-echo-chamber, crack house, tech-2-step, quiet stormcore, sugarshack breakbeat funk, scrap iron dub, bleep garage, wildstyle soul, lover's jump-up.
