[313] +8 memory robbery
I had a wonderful weekend, but one thing ruined it... I was walking down vendor isle with my fiancé, and there was richie being nice and signing stuff. So, I went up to him, and got my girlfriend a copy of Theorem's 'Cinder' signed to her along with a +8 mouse pad. She was enthralled, and this made her weekend since she had an eye infection and missed much of the fest including the Jak show. After the hail storm, we were walking back to the car, and this thuggish raver kid straight up ran up, and yanked the record and mouse pad away. I caught the guy and he chucked the mouse pad over the windsor tunnel bridge, never to be seen again, and broke the record in several pieces as I tackled him. He got up and ran, and I just let him go, leaving me with a crushed theorem record, smeared autograph, and a girlfriend crying for an hour or so... This completely upsets me, because when is the next time that I can get that record and that mouse pad both with richie signing it to my girlfriend again?!?!? man, if you rob me, take my money or something, not something that is irreplaceable and a gift to the one I love!! darw_n... ... :i: explore. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

C-Side 003 was just released. On Fracture (a sister label of Surface as far as I know) he has an EP called ``Outerspace Obsessive'' (FR001), and two others under aliases (see below). On Fragmented, there are ``Seaside Electronics'' (FMD005),``Bateman Tower EP'' (FMD008), ``Another Escapade EP'' (FMD014), ``Closed Account EP'' (FMD017), ``Authentic Moment EP'' (FMD020) and ``Old School Former Pupil'' 2xLP (FMDLP003). He is recording under various aliases, from Quentin Garlic and Hurburtus Krantz (on Fracture), Herman Funker III (Stimulus) and Jorge Zamacona. He also has several remixes and tracks on labels like Pure Plastic and Native Sampler (a sublabel of Theory). [313] this little fdemf C2 thingy...
I have to admit, I am truly baffled by something, and I am thinking and speaking in the mind of an entertainment business owner... Why, on earth, would a major company, fire the head guy, a notorious artist no less, 2 weeks prior to the event? That makes no sense at all. If I were planning an aggressive take-over and re-shaping of a company, the *last* thing that would enter my head would to be to create mass controversy. If I were that aggressive, I would simply wait till after the event. And if I was shady, I would realize that waiting would most likely provide greater potential to pass the blame, or to create some fault, and the level of controversy would be at its lowest after an event It just seems odd. darw_n... ... :i: explore. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Scary stuff, I wonder how much of it is > truth and how much is speculation... who knows??? I don't know about the Bush's, but it wouldn't surprise me. Prior to the American involvement in the war, there were many supporters of Germany. Germany was a mess prior to the nasty H-man, and when he rose, everything was really really improved in every way (sorry for my laymen wording, but I'm tired and lazy right now (after all, I am an American!!;-])) MY grandmother tells me how, prior to the war, allot of people in our area Cleveland Ohio, USA, actually flew Nazi flags, or had pictures of big bad H on their wall. It wasn't till the end of the war, and the trials that people became aware of the atrocities, and even then, it was very hush hush... There was even a large American Nazi party... The 30's was a very interesting era, and the social thoughts at the time are very different than now. Re: [313] Drummachine+turntables
It's fun, and with a MIDI, you can play a whole friggin' drum machine symphony if you so desire!! As far as synching the machines and tables together, there are plenty of devices out there that takes a BPM read off your mixer and converts it to MIDI to your machines. Its not fool proof though. The company that makes the best (that I know of) is Redsomethingorother, the same company that makes the mixer with three faders. darw_n "repetition : repeat : shift..." http://www.sphereproductions.com http://www.mannequinodd.com - Original Message - From: Janne Puurunen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: 313 <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Thursday, March 29, 2001 6:49 AM Subject: [313] Drummachine+turntables > hello, > > has anyone experience on drummachine+2decks? Re: [313] i have to dj and i'm scared.
Well, these are certainly great suggestions, but let me chime in for a sec... I actually do this, tagging trance and techno, allot with my partner, Ian Mariano. We perform as Signal. He plays trance (with some tech influence) and I play Tech (with some house influence). The whole purpose of us joining is that we were sick of the genre wars. Anyways, I have found that the really rhythmic, even repetitive techno goes very very well with PVD and crap. all the Euro guys mix very smoothly out of any Hooj Choon record, and once you go from trance, to maybe some swedish stuff, you can easily go detroit. Than the trance guy can easily go from detroit to trance. And keep in mind, despite us being a "group", I could tell you what records he owns, we do that on purpose to add a more free flowing element to it all. Anyways, my suggestion if your stuck is go either swedish (or similar, repetitious drums is the key) or tribal. From their, do your thing. And the trance guy shouldn't complain one bit because those records are set up to mix fairly easily. If your wondering how the crowd reacts to such broad sweeps, well, lets just say its very positive... good luck!! darw_n "repetition : repeat : shift..." http://www.sphereproductions.com http://www.mannequinodd.com - Original Message - From: Phonopsia <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Dave Clark <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, March 28, 2001 11:56 PM Subject: Re: [313] i have to dj and i'm scared. > - Original Message - > From: "Dave Clark" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Cc: <313@hyperreal.org> > Sent: Wednesday, March 28, 2001 11:24 PM > Subject: Re: [313] i have to dj and i'm scared. > > > > Anyway I thought it was a good question. Don't get me wrong, I fully respect DnB, half my crew is composed of DnB, we sponsors Cleveland's best DnB events, etc etc. Fresh tunes are great, but why are they so protected, almost violently protected?? And the thing is, I ask all my friends this, and all the DJ's we bring in, so I know the standard answers, but I don't really see the logic in it... darw_n "create, demonstrate, toneshift..." http://www.thedemonstration.com http://www.sphereproductions.com http://www.mannequinodd.com search "djdarwin" on napster
Re: [313] taking off labels
In cleveland, you some idiots who do things like blank off The Bells or Live Wire, as if it was some hidden super secret squirrel track... Or some DnB DJ's black out Virus Records, LOL!!! Personally, I say who cares, I mix it one way, another DJ mixes it another way, that's what makes it unique. Another thing, so many people think "I'll be real popular if I'm the only DJ with this record, and I'll beat anyone down who tries to spot it". How retarded is that?? Does anyone really think promoters book on how rare a DJ's record collection is?? Nope... Hell, we booked Doc Scott for one of our events at the end of march, and on the flier, we put "dropping the freshest dub-plates", we don't care about that, we just care if the DJ is skilled or not... hmmm, I guess its a trend from the old hip hop days, so I respect it, I just think its kinda silly... darw_n "create, demonstrate, toneshift..." http://www.thedemonstration.com http://www.sphereproductions.com http://www.mannequinodd.com search "djdarwin" on napster - Original Message - From: ".: Caltrop :." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Saturday, March 10, 2001 5:49 PM Subject: Re: [313] taking off labels > that reminds me of a scene in "beat street" where this one dj was telling > another guy that he masked the labels of his fressshhhest records so that > nobody else can trainspot them :) > > > > >From: "darw_n" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >To: "ice-a" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, <313@hyperreal.org> > >Subject: Re: [313] taking off labels > >Date: Sat, 10 Mar 2001 14:39:40 -0500 > > > >you can soak them, water wont harm the record at all, use rubbing alcohol > >if > >there's glue on them... > > > >My question is why do people hide there records so much? > > > >That's not a sarcastic question, I'm serious. you can soak them, water wont harm the record at all, use rubbing alcohol if there's glue on them... My question is why do people hide there records so much? Re: [313] I need to vent for a moment...
wait a second... Where are you sending your waves as they record?? You *need* to send them in an no OS HD, and it *should* be 7200 rpm's. But the real key is that there can NOT be any programs or op system on the disk you are recording to, not even a partitioned drive. If you do, you run a huge risk of failure, unless you have a P4 or over clocked water cooled AMD 1.5 GHz and a gig of ram and a 10,000 rpm drive... even then, chances are there for record failure... darw_n "create, demonstrate, toneshift..." http://www.thedemonstration.com http://www.sphereproductions.com http://www.mannequinodd.com search "djdarwin" on napster - Original Message - From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, March 07, 2001 12:12 PM Subject: Re: [313] I need to vent for a moment... > You know, I switched from Sound Forge 4.5 to Wavelab so I could use some of > my sweet VST plugins. http://www.once-upon-a-forest.com/ enter this, then press the number "7" in the lower row. Notice one thing, hit #7 many times if you have to. It is unique every time, and unique to every viewer. The original artists main abstract (and undefined) intention is still there, but the total picture can not be without the viewer (or at least the computer) being involved, and it will never be repeated again, even to the same viewer. The viewer, and indeed *every* viewer of this piece, is equally as creative and unique in the process. Not only does each view become a unique and never repeated creation, but the view has the ability to *suggest* definition via direction of the drawing crosses by moving the mouse into the area of the crosses. Again, let me reiterate this, I find this to be very important. The main aspect of the original artist is still within the piece, never to be understood by the viewers, but yet, the viewer is completely equaled with the original artist. this is *exactly* what toneshifting is with repetition and definition art... I'm not trying to start another heated debate, but I am kinda full of joy right now that I have come across such a work that puts the theory of toneshifting into a simple and accurate visual realm... darw_n "create, demonstrate, toneshift..." http://www.thedemonstration.com http://www.sphereproductions.com http://www.mannequinodd.com search "djdarwin" on napster

Re: [313] ...this
ooh ohh, its gonna be great huh!!! this time though, its "live from cocoon AND motor via ISDN!!" The funny thing is, you guys probably would love this recording, its raw as hell, its real techno, not at *all* like my three other recordings which range vastly, and has real power. I'm not honking my own horn here, I really think many who diss just because I'm the "toneshifting extraordinaire" are dissing a little too soon. But I suppose this is what you all like to do, some 313ers seems hard nosed just because it proper or something, cool, no bother to me, just a little confusing and certainly disenchanting at times... On the 313, I am really impressed by Heidelberg, how's the rest of the cities art community, is it really that active else where (aside from the electronic music aspect of detroit)? - Original Message - From: "Dennis Donohue" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <313@hyperreal.org>; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, February 23, 2001 8:14 AM Subject: Re: [313] ...this > Is this the "live @ FUSE" mix? > > ooh ooh ... gotta hear it! > > > Dennis > > > >From: "darw_n" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >To: <313@hyperreal.org>, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, > ><[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >Subject: [313] ...this > >Date: Fri, 23 Feb 2001 01:36:07 -0500 > > > >many say that the mixer, or the DJ, is gone. > > > >not so... > > > >darw_n - "FORCE!" - four table live mix - circa 1997 > > > >45 minutes : 192 bit rate : encoded from original beatup Maxell tape that > >was long lost, then found. > > > >released via napster to show what on the day after T-1000 shows up in > >cleveland, a Urie mixer, 4 turntables, an after-hours of 20 people, techno, > >and a lot of ideas can do... > > > >hotlist "darw_n" on napster, load "FORCE!", then hear and... > > > >taste, this. > > > >then, experience 2001:23:02:2001 > > > >"langis"@defrag with n_wrad & onairam nai > > > >*highly* limited capacity > > > >akron ohio > > > >"create, demonstrate, toneshift..." > > > > > > > > > > > >- > >To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > >For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > > _ > Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com >

gotta work it somehow!! ;) The shameless self promotion is a little more fun to do though. The toneshifting stuff is a real hard passion of mine, so at times, such as when people call it wonderous words such as "drivel", it kinda sucks. many say that the mixer, or the DJ, is gone. not so... darw_n - "FORCE!" - four table live mix - circa 1997 45 minutes : 192 bit rate : encoded from original beatup Maxell tape that was long lost, then found. released via napster to show what on the day after T-1000 shows up in cleveland, a Urie mixer, 4 turntables, an after-hours of 20 people, techno, and a lot of ideas can do... hotlist "darw_n" on napster, load "FORCE!", then hear and... taste, this. then, experience 2001:23:02:2001 "langis"@defrag with n_wrad & onairam nai *highly* limited capacity akron ohio "create, demonstrate, toneshift..."

Re: [313] OT / recording streams
just set soundforge to record the stream, that's how I captured the mills @ liquidroom set of Axisrecords. Get SF ready to record, and then pull up you little windows speaker by the clock, that's the windows mixer. Select "options", then check "record", and the recording mixer will show up, check stuff till you find what channel the stream is coming through (often "line-in"), if you have a sound blaster live!, they have an added option on the windows mixer of "record what you hear", and your set... if you have a professional high-bit rate soundcard in addition to a soundblaster live!, turn off the drivers for the higher level card, I found SoundBlaster's really don't like to assist in record if you have another card, especially in SF... Now there's another way if you have a unstable soundforge (one that hates long recording, or a slow CPU). You can get ultraplayer at ultraplayer.com. In there is an option to record direct to MP3. so you can record the stream straight into MP3, then use winamp to convert the MP3 to wave, and do your thing... darw_n "create, demonstrate, toneshift..." http://www.thedemonstration.com http://www.sphereproductions.com http://www.mannequinodd.com search "djdarwin" on napster - Original Message - From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <313@hyperreal.org>; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, February 18, 2001 6:19 PM Subject: [313] OT / recording streams > > howdy folks > > is there any way of recording streaming audio into a wave editor like > soundforge or wavelab? > > reply privately thanks. sorry for the off topic post > > anyone heard the geology 2 mix CD? > > p-dogg > > > - > To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >
Kraftwerk live and complete!
If you have Napster, I now have the entire "Kraftwerk live in Buenos Aires 98" in one large file the fits *exactly* onto a 80 minute CD. I all the files through Sound Forge, using both individual channel normalizing, and then finishing it off with Ultramaximizer, so the sound is way better than before. I still have the original individual tracks, so you can reference the original quality and also the track listing. The sound is still so-so though because its someone with a mic in the audience... Surgeon>Dave Clarke>Aphrohead???
> In the Dark We Live - Aphrohead (Bush Records) The one to get is the release on emotive records, 1994, it is full of interesting titleing and remixes. The main version, the one that *everyone* played is actually a remix by Dave Clarke(according to the record); "In thee Dark We Live - dave clarke's 312 mix". Then, there is another remix by dave clark on the flip side, "dave clarkes 313 mix", that sounds like it *massively* influenced another record from about 95; "The Storm - Surgeon Dub", (dub?!?!?!? Its one of the roughest records I own!!), released as a bonus type track on Dave Clarke's "Southside" release on Deconstruction - 1996. So here we have an interesting thing. The version of In The Dark that is known by everyone. *Is* it really a Dave Clarke track? And is Surgeon almost directly influenced by the "Dave Clarke 313" mix of "In The Dark We Live"?? darw_n "create, demonstrate, toneshift..." http://www.thedemonstration.com http://www.sphereproductions.com http://www.mannequinodd.com search "djdarwin" on napster

I like to put it in-between my peppermint jam records and my freaky chakra stuff... not only all that (which I don't really mind if I compensate), the pitch becomes *super* sensitive. you breath on it, and you get adjustment... Again, its not a problem, but it gets annoying for me to re-learn the sensitivity on the fly... - Original Message - From: "Sakari Karipuro" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Dennis Donohue" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Thursday, February 01, 2001 12:26 PM Subject: Re: [313] Gemini CDJ Package For Sale > On Thu, 1 Feb 2001, Dennis Donohue wrote: > > > > > Almost as narrow-minded as the people who say +15% is evil, and should never > > be tried without the cleansing of a preist. > > i've been forced to play a lot on 16% technics. after couple of months, > the area around +-3 % marked area comes useless, making the dj effectively > playing everything on at least +6% (or -6), giving playable range around > +6 to +12 (yikes). annoying. kills the basslines and bassdrum tones, > as well as in house music all vocals... people usually learn after they've > played for around 4, 5 years that 8% is enough. then they have enough > records to play varied tempo stuff, without needing that 16%. > > > BTW - I like to keep to a certain speed, because that is my taste. Re: [313] Gemini CDJ Package For Sale
> That's why I always bring a screwdriver > Space Djz played cleveland with Oliver Ho a while back. Space Dj, right in the middle of mixing two records and smoking his 58th joint, pulls out a screw driver from his pocket (a full sized one) and tears apart the third table (all while mixing the other two and smoking his joint) and tweaks the pitch... The problem is, dude lost every screw, threw the protection plate somewhere (it was found) and never put the pitch back. The owner of the brand new 12 was a tad pissed... darw_n "create, demonstrate, toneshift..." http://www.thedemonstration.com http://www.sphereproductions.com http://www.mannequinodd.com search "djdarwin" on napster
