I'm a little puzzled about some of the technical details also:

What size is the hole in the middle? Presumably it has to be large enough
to accommodate the 15mm-ish spindle CD players use? Do you get some special
adaptor for the smaller spindle on a vinyl turntable?

I make a CD to be only just larger than the label area on a conventional
modern record. So either it only has a few seconds playing time or (more
likely) it has a playable groove extending further toward the centre of the
disc? But not all tone arms will move this far, some only expect to get as
far as the run out groove of conventional vinyl and their range doesn't
extend beyond that.

Or am I being really stupid not visualising this thing correctly?

I'd like to think that the extra weight on the spinner in the CD
player would cause the electric motor to burn up
slowly...especially the
older ones. Those CD players were designed to handle the weight of a
 CD, not a CD/record.

Then again the CD/DVD combos seem to work ok in their players even
though they are thicker. --Original Message--

Got another Mills album in - The Occurance and I've never seen
 anything like it.

It's a CD. But you turn it over and it's a mini-vinyl disk. With
music on it. That you play on a normal record player. So that's two
formats for the price of one - anyone ever seen anything like this
 before?

Wow - he's The Man From Tomorrow alright!

I've been a bit too scared to put the CD in my computer to listen to
the album (it looks a wee bit thicker than a normal CD but that could
be an illusion) so I can't give any reports on it yet!

You're not wrong at all Francis - you have to place it on the
turntable spindle as close to centered as you can and yes, there's
only a small usable area for the music - think it might be about 5
mins worth - the grooves seem very tight but I was suprised by how
good it all sounded.

You might have difficulty with a semi-automatic turntable that
switches off at the end of a side.

Not so good for scratching and quick cuts then!

cheers

I had seen the CD-R's you get that look like vinyl (Black underside
and a raised groove with a small label on the other side like a mini
45) but never one that actually had music on.

£30 - that's the price you pay for the Future I'm afraid :)

The technology has been around a while, we did some sound design for a console
game and the company wanted to do the same thing but bottled it because the
price was to high for a give away. Still, glad to see it's been used,
although they do kinda make you nervous, will it get stuck? Will it wreck the
needle? :)
