(313) DEC/ White Elephants
Ryan, White Elephants Yes, I have never even come accross a copy of the original Soundtrack 313 in my record hunting. It is one of those rare things that you would just love to see, put your hands on and geek out. (I settled for the Peacefrog release, Excerpts.) You know what is another elusive disk to come by? Texture by Tony Drake. (I ultimately found one for about $75). According to Neil, He himself doesn't even have a copy of Soundtrack 313! How he managed that one, I have no idea. It's such a hard release to come by nowadays, too (unless you're willing to pay big money for it)

I guess I'm lucky. I picked up both of those titles in a 'cut-out' bin at one of the local CD shops. Lance might be able to speak to this subject. The store was called My Generation [Westlake, Ohio]. They had a great habit of moving 20.00 to 26.00 dollar 'electronic' import CD's to the 66% discount bin on a regular basis. I think I got Tony Drake in 1997 for 10.00 and DEC that same year for 11.00 USD. ha! yes My Generation and i go way way way back. back in the mid 80s the store was located in Bay Village - the community where i grew up. each week i would save up my allowance and ride my schwinn bantam bike (with the custom banana) seat 5 miles to My Generation to buy cassettes. Oh the excitement i would get when i purchased the Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, UFO, Yes, and Van Halen catalogs... fast forward a few years... My Generation moved to a neighboring community and a larger facility but i still spent all my money there. over the years my purchases changed from hard rock to classic rock to alternative to alternative dance to electronica/techno/house. i still remember the employees emploring me to purchase releases from artists previously unknown to me such as the orb, black dog, carl craig, model500, basic channel, art of noise, irresistible force, derrick may and aphex win. without their nudging i may never have developed the tastes that i have today. in the past 10 years i didnt shop at My Generation as much because Bent Crayon had opened and offered much more in the styles i was looking for. but every six months i would stop by and check out the 'cut-out' bins that lee refers to for some amazing deals. sadly, due to the digital downloading craze, My Generation closed its doors for good last year. it was sad to see another local institution close. its employees were longtime friends that help shape my musical tastes and drain my bank accounts in my early years. luckily Bent Crayon is still around and delivering the goods. ok, nostalgia mode off. back to reality... dang it's cold in cleveland today! ;) np: as one - elegant systems (versatile) cim - reference (defocus) b12 - time tourist (warp) black dog productions - bytes (warp) --- a rec my gen made me buy! -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I finally found a copy last year of Soundtrack 313 for about AU$30 in Sydney. When it first came out my wife was going to buy it for me (she thought that I'd like it, she was right, but ahead of herself a year or two), but for some reason I didn't dig it. Glad I did find it locally though. Last year I even managed to find a copy of DEC2 on the short lived Detroit Escalator Co. label! :-D fwdthought wrote: Ryan, White Elephants Yes, I have never even come accross a copy of the original Soundtrack 313 in my record hunting.
