RE: (313) OT: Ryan Burns died
I'll also dig out 'Shades of Jae' tonight as a fitting way to say 'see ya Ryan.' This news sends a chill down the spine during this season when it's 360 from where most mind sets are again, I didn't know the man, but a certain familiarity sets in from seeing his name crop up a lot around here, and I can say that I would have liked him I think. Wishing sympathy for his family. I know next to nothing about his family or personal life, and hadn't spoken to him for nearly a year. But if you want to pay respect to him, next time you drop Shades of Jae -- probably his most prized possesion and top track -- take a moment to nod your head, because if there is a heaven, Ryan will be nodding right along with you.

That's awful news. As Kent said he has always had his share of problems, and was at times infuriating because of them, but your love for the guy always pulled through because of his passion for the music and his sense of humour. He would get so geeked when we'd have an exciting guest come through town. I can remember wandering through the pedestrian mall on a Saturday afternoon in Iowa City, bumping into Ryan and DJ Bone, sitting on a bench having just been in the Record Collector. That's got to be my favourite image of him - chatting about techno with one of his heroes and getting ready to see him play on home turf, fresh out of the record store. It looks like a myspace obit page has been set up: http://www.myspace.com/djryanburns. 28 years ain't enough. Tristan === http://www.phonopsia.co.uk [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: (313) OT: Ryan Burns died
Whoa. This really caught me by suprise. I havent really even thought about him in quite some time, maybe due to him not being very active (if even subscribed) to this list anymore. Either way, I met him when I played Iowa City back in 2000 (??) and he was part of the welcoming commitee. Took quite good care of me, and had many a discussion with him about Detroit music in general, and even specificly... Shades of Jae. I thought of that before I even finished reading Kents post. I dont know what to say, other than I'm 31 years old, and I'm already sick of people dying. Seems like these days, I hear of someone who I know, or respect, or both, every 2 months or so. Strange we are all just hearing about this now. Kent, if you hear anything more, please post it or email me. Peace out, Ryan. You will be missed. derek.
