Re: (313) Coldplay/Kraftwerk (again)

I found the Kevorkian Remix on Bit Torrent, along with a Thin White
Duke remix. The Kevorkian remix is OK, but verging on the trancey,
and the string of anti-trance garlic around my neck began to smoke a
bit. Not horrible, but trancey in the way that a trance DJ might play
it out. Meaning if I played it, I'd lose whatever shred of street cred
I still possess.

The Thin White Duke Remix was more banging, and I actually like it a
lot, except for the occasional Hands in the Air snare build up. I get
the impression that Jacques Du Cont is a really talented producer, but
he did a bit of pandering to shift units to crackhead teeny DJ dudes
who think Progressive is, like, progressive. Actually you could take
this mix and edit out the embarrassing moments, and have yourself a
hell of a track.

I guess Du Cont has worked with Madonna, as well, the latest in her
campaign of glomming onto club artists to stay au courant. I can't
help but imagine that working with Madonna would have a bit of the
dominatrix vibe. But hey if she comes round my block with her ice
cream truck full of cash looking for beats, I'd tumble for her...

Actually the Francois K and Junkie XL mixes have been out for a while.
Junkie XL was my favorite, but the new mix by Thin White Duke is the
bangger. The Dave Aude mix is your usual California dubby house track that
he is famous for, not my cup of tea but worth checking out if you like that
kind of stuff.

Yep.
Coldplay's new single is based on a Kraftwerk song.
And some of the remixes of the new Coldplay single
are remixed by Francois K, who has remixed many
Kraftwerk singles. Talk (pardon the pun) about coming
full circle, eh? I wonder if this is a coincidence, or
they and/or the record company wanted a remixer who
had remixed Kraftwerk to remix this Coldplay-riffing-
on-Kraftwerk song?

(313) coldplay / kraftwerk

2006-02-13 Thread Philip

coldplay kraftwerk are both on emi and yes it was authorised etc. i'm
not much of a coldplay fan, apart from 'don't ask' (obvious i know, but
a really pretty song with lovely guitars) but i was kind of stunned at
how clumsy their interpretation of the melody from 'computer love' is.
it just sounds wrong, too complex and convoluted in the context they use
it in. perhaps it would have been better to use a shorter part and not
to try force it where it doesn't really fit. whatever.

I presume we are talking about Coldplay - Talk ?

I really like the Francois K Dub. Very very good reinterpretation with
minimal vocal interruptions.
