RE: (313) on a deep house quest

2003-07-22 Thread Odeluga, Ken
Sorry am late with this recommendation Michael, however, have you checked
the Dj Spinna BBE house tracks? Their very well made and I think fit in with
the sort of area that you are thinking of.

Info here: http://www.bbemusic.com/data.pl?artist=409

I've mentioned the most recent one, (remixed by Paul Simpson now) before:
'Music In Me'.

looking for some new house 12 (or double 12 for that matter)

specifically something with lyrics that actually carry some weight to them
- something beyond my love will lift you up or love will set you free
etc.
if that is how the lyrics go then it better be damn good delivery/singer
and music

curious to see/hear what other people have or like

doesn't have to be strictly Detroit but should sit well next to it

Thanks, I'll check it out. Some of Shannon Harris' stuff I've heard on DHP
is a little too smooth for me. Its a fine line I guess. The Rich Medina
track I was thinking of is American Poem, in which he is yelling I want
to hear an American Poem, Some improper english s--t ... a joe hill legend
... and goes off denouncing racism and oppression in American culture.
Much more powerful than other tracks of his that I've heard which haven't
hit me as hard.

Minstrel Speak and Reality.

if you like those you might want to give shannon harris' 'urbanicity'
label a try. i think there's audio samples of their second release up on
the vinyljunkies website.

I find that spoken word artist/dj/producer Rich Medina is on a weighty
socially conscious tip ala Gil Scott Heron. He had a big spoken word
diatribe drum machine track last year that was off the hook but whose name
escapes me. Something with america in it. Other tracks are Minstrel Speak
and Reality. I'm really digging the Donnie remixes that are popping up. Not
so weighty but I've been thirsting for this Stevie Wonder soul style to a
dancefloor thing. Two standouts for me are the broken beat edit of
Masterplan and the upbeat soul of DJ Spinna's Cloud 9 remix. Of course
there's always the latest Blaze 12.
