RE: (313) paxahau/kompakt
I haven't seen Detroit dance like that in a long while. Big ups to Paxacrew and to the people that came out and had a great time. For those that weren't there: The party started off at Times Square Detroit, which normally caters to shiny shirts and sequins. Michel Mayer was playing some really wicked tracks, very bleepy and bloopy, for lack of better adjectives. The intensity of the crowd hasn't been felt like that since at least DEMF. Reinhard Voigt came on with a live set that was extremely facsinating to listen to and at the same time EXTREMELY dancable. At 2am, the party was moved to the afterparty location, which happens to be the Legendary Burst Audio equipment warehouse. I shouldn't even have to add that the sound was impeccable, but it was - and the venue was a cement warehouse out on Michigan Ave., not too far from the Works or the Old Tiger Stadium. Immediately upon entering, everyone knew what was up. There was an electricity and a (dare I say) vibe that only a warehouse party in Detroit can offer, and it was certainly well recieved. The Paxahau residents, Drew Maddox and Chuck Flask were on point to start the after party, and as soon as the entire crowd had relocated, it was just madness. To close off the night, Deadbeat (from Montreal) played some really dub type ambient or downtempo that eased the crowd, and sounded spectacular. Dennis BTW - I'm still recovering, and I'm sure that most everyone is - as Christian Bloch's going away party on Friday kicked off the madness, and Saturday drove it home... -Original Message- From: atomly [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, September 29, 2003 1:53 PM To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: (313) paxahau/kompakt I'm pretty damn surprised nobody's been talking about this. I felt the same way when I heard them in Barcelona, Reinhard has so much energy and knows how to move the crowd. He's my number one live set as of late. Did he get down and dirty, take his shirt off and go moshing in the crowd? Yeahhh... They also had a 5 yr anniversary party in barcelona, on the beach though, with surprisingly good sound, from sunrise to sunset and back again to sunrise ... I'm not sure what would be better , a dirty dingy detroit warehouse or dancing on the beach. Tough one, and I'm not being sarcastic. I'll forward this off to Riley, let him know his boys were well received in the D. -Pete -Original Message- From: Dennis Donohue [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, September 29, 2003 2:10 PM To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: RE: (313) paxahau/kompakt I haven't seen Detroit dance like that in a long while. Re: (313) paxahau/kompakt
sadly I missed this event I did however, catch the motor reunion on friday night, and was slightly disappointed to find that they had to move the event at the last minute from motor to the tangent gallery. it was pretty nice to walk in and have stacey pullen kicking azz downstairs and tp upstairs dropping the swingiest, grooviest house :) then of course green velvet killed it on the main floor. interesting night for sure... tons of detroiters, pouring rain outside, dripping ceiling in the venue, hot as he towards the end of the night, and people *danced*!!! :) I wish I could have made both parties, but going out is expensive when you take the 4 hour round trip into account :\ theres another party at motor on 10-24, but its josh wink and Im not sure what to expect out of him it was nice to attend an event which didn't leave me feeling that the promoters would be selling their cars to afford gas money to get home :) there *are* still techno fans in detroit, they just hide most nights :) -Joe I felt the same way when I heard them in Barcelona, Reinhard has so much energy and knows how to move the crowd. Re: (313) paxahau/kompakt
i *just* stepped in the door, coming home from that adventure. well worth the trip, the hurt, and the half day of work i just blew off. most fun i've had at a party in YEARS, i can say that without the slightest bit of exaggeration. first time in years i didn't want to punch out all the cheesed*cks crowding me at times square, enjoyed every last bit of ravey atmosphere, and completely cut loose. the music was phenomenal, which goes without saying for the kompakt guys, but i was pleasantly surprised that it held true for drew and chuck at the afterparty too. i'm a little miffed at the way the party was kind of *forced* down at the end by putting deadbeat on-- nothing against the guy's music, it was just ill-timed. i don't think anybody was ready to stop dancing and fispumping and be taken down with some dub yet. well at least i wasn't done. could have just been me, but i thought i heard other outcries of turning the rave back up a couple of notches. anyway, i thought this event wouldn't hold a candle to the kompakt party at sonar 02, after all, who can party like a bunch of spaniards in the summertime?? but it blew it out of the water. go detroit :) On Mon, 29 Sep 2003, atomly wrote: I'm pretty damn surprised nobody's been talking about this.
