Re: (313)kdj 2 track EP's SUCK!

2000-03-07 Thread Dave Clark
Just to clarify

- I haven't heard the record yet
- I'm reserving my own judgement until that time.

I would also like to point out that this record has not hit any
shelves here at all, due to the fact that it doesn't look like it's hit
any of the distributor's sheets. Why are so many good records only
pressed 100 copies or so? (although most of the time Perth gets a
decent portion of these). Is this 'underground' or just snobbery?

The other moodymann stuff on the shelves is great... 'ya blessin
me' is pretty cool, the pandemonium record is EXCELLENT, and if
you missed out on shades of jae, that is available. One thing
though, the other side supposedly has 'the setup' on there - that is
a different song! 'The setup' as plays on my original shades of
jae/setup EP is completely different. Who knows what's going on?

release out that is stealing the spotlight. That's fine, but don't
over look this track. I remeber the same thing seemed to happen when
Mills put out Kat Moda and then Force Universalle. Both are great,
but Kat Moda and the bells was the big hit, and every kid with $6 in
his pocket picked that one up over Force Universalle. Comments? Is
 this just bad marketing? J.

On the other hand, I've been told that the kdj on moods /
grooves isn't actually that good (I guess when you compare it to
other moodyman stuff). I'll still hear it for myself, if mike
grant decides to repress the sucker.

dave: the kdj on moods and grooves is a one
sided 2 track 12. the second track is a cut up
of a ten city track (memory escapes me re:
which one, but i posted re: this before) and the
first track is played on show 596 of Andrew Duke's
In The Mix (archive on cognition: http://techno.ca/cognition)
if you'd like to check it out in RA or WMP. hope this
helps. andrew duke :)

Moodymann is notorious for doing the single sided record. I'd agree
with the rest of the crew here - I quite like the idea of an absolutely
excellent track all by itself, plenty of pressing space for some fat
bass. If the song is good enough, that's all that matters. Also, i like
to think of it as a concept thing - don't clutter up a record with filler -
just give us your best shot.

I'm loving all these represses of theo / kdj etc that are out... picked
up the three chairs with kdj, theo and rick wilhite. The moodymann
track on there - Gawdamn An absolutely killer.

  Am I right?

  Nomenclature aside, I'd rather buy a 12 w/ 2 loud, fat-ass tracks
than a 4-song EP where only one or two of the tracks are any good.
We've all been there (and I've probably put a few out).

PS. Assuming anyone on the list actually listens to techno anymore,
the new Sender Berlin remix EP on Tresor is a motherfucker.

Wrong. Its good. I guess you could measure it against KDJ's back catalogue,
but why? Maybe it is as good, maybe not, but it doesn't matter. Standing
alone, both tracks are 1) different enough in feel to serve two seperate
functions in a mix, which I like much better than these original with 3 crappy
mixes packages for 12 you see all the time, and 2) good.
