in fact...it was ALWAYS at 1315. got numbers wrong.

Right ... I guess I always counted the parties at 1515 in with the
M.I. aesthetic. I don't remember how long the crowd hung around
that block of Broadway before the whole thing fizzled out.

Dan LKS-

it doesn't help the 1315/1515 confusion factor that Chris J. (like i
can spell a last name with two nonsequential zs in it!), who owns
1515, was also around parties way *before* 1315 hosted the MI (which
was two blocks away). Dan's book hits on that relationship.

NRR: The opera house parking garage sits on a block between both
locations, accounting for all the 14xx addresses, including a
people mover station, a printshop, and a wall street journal
subscription delivery pick-up location. I worked in two of these
businesses at one time or another.

[313] the Music Institute

2002-02-16 Thread Lee Herrington

hi folks. with the recent postings re: the MI, i have become curious.
where in Detroit was the MI? What building actually housed the MI? Is the
structure still standing? was the MI demolished, or does it house new
endeavors? did the MI building have a history previous to 1988? does the
fabulous ruins of detroit site contain any photos? and finally, does
anyone have any great stories about their times at the MI?
 regards,

In order:

1. Downtown Detroit...on broadway. 1515 broadway.

2. The structure is still standing, but hasn't been used for anything
that i know of.

3. Don't know the history previous...probably just office space.

4. The fabulous ruins doesn't address the site...because it is a social
ruin but not a physical ruin. There is still a nice club across the
street from it.

5. The one story i could tell that everyone could appreciate is the time
a woman came in with a skirt up to her ass and tight as a drum made passes
at every man staring...and then then staring men realized her adam's apple
was a bit too big.

I recal there being a Carl Craig remix of a Bandulu track that appeared on
their first album?

Another question is one relating to 69's (Carl Craig) track Rushed which is
on the Sound on Sound EP (RS). I have this release by Thunderground (who
are
basically the Bandulu crew of Bissmire and others) called The Thunderground
EP on Infonet and there's this track called Amerenth which is uncannily
similar to Rushed. Seeing that the Thunderground is dated at 1992, I was
wondering if Carl did sample this track because I think the 69 release is
circa 1993-4.

yes Craig sampled that of them,he was a big Bandulu fan, back then
and he used to play the a side of Amerenth(illigal rush) a lot .
later on he remixed better nation for their first album.
There was another record by Eevolute's Max404 on djax that sampled
Amerenth too

That's right. The track is :

Better nation (Carl Craig innerzone mix)

It appears on their first album called Guidance.
