Re: (313) Jeff Mills comp on Azuli
Choice: A Collection of Classics Mixed by Jeff Mills Jeff Mills remains a giant amongst his musical contemporaries. His lightening reflexes and three deck wizardry have left the world's dancefloors breathless and his countless productions continue to push the boundaries of electronic music as if re-inventing the wheel was bottom-line standard. For many his name is a guarantee of unparalleled excellence and techno incarnate. As co-founder of seminal Detroit outfit Underground Resistance, Mills set the benchmark in sonic assault conceptualism and punishing electronic body music and continues to re-shape it through the future thinking minimal, experimental and dancefloor looped expression of his Axis, Purpose Maker and Tomorrow labels. >From such a long history and knowledge of music Mills' influences stretch far and wide. For many Jeff Mills equals techno but as you are about to see from this fine genre spanning collection of personal inspirations, Jeff Mills is much more than that. From funk, boogie, soul, jazz, experimental electronica, house and well techno (why not) Jeff Mills has focused his own kaleidoscopic prism into a well-honed beam of electronic futurism. Just as Mills and Banks had sharpened their musical and business acumen from the musical legacy of their harsh Detroit surroundings so does this co collection highlight the vibrancy, warmth, funk and feeling that emanates from a hard city full of soul. To grasp the future you need to understand the past Features tracks & remixes from Joey Beltram, DJ Q, Carl Craig, Silent Phase, Telex, Deodata, Jackie Moore, Montana, Blake Baxter, Change, Chas Jankel, Denroy Morgan, Starflight & more. Also available in the Choice: A Collection of Clasics series Mixes by: Frankie Knuckles Francois K Danny Tenaglia Derrick Carter Louis Vega

I'd be interested in that, got my copy this morning... Martin On 6 Jul 2004, at 08:55, Cyclone Wehner wrote: I got it today too and I am excited. From the sleeve notes it looks like a few of the tracks are pretty rare. There's some cool disco on CD 1, this disc juts gets better as it goes on. I guess most 313 heads know the tracks on CD 2 already, but every one of them is worthy of being on the comp. Probably the best CD to be released on Azuli : ) Dust Science Ltd

I really like the DT one, though it took me a bit to warm up to it. He must have spent an immense amount of time on it because he re-edits nearly every track and writes a paragrah or two in the liner notes on each of them. Also have the Francois K and DLC discs and they are amazing as well. Gonna pick up Vega's asap and then Mills. there's also a danny tenaglia and tony humphries comp in the series. all these choice series of comps are really good, the derrick carter is brilliant. the frankie knuckles comp has the incomparable 'love bug' by bumblebee unlimited. the danny tenaglia one is the weakest - but it does contain two stone cold gems; Tony Cook - On The Floor and Hugh Masekela - Don't Go Lose It Baby. can't wait for the jeff mills. james www.jbucknell.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] et To 03/05/04 11:24 PM Robert Taylor <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> cc Sven Venema <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, ThReE-oNe-ThReE <313@hyperreal.org> Subject RE: (313) Jeff Mills comp on Azuli the derrick carter one was loosly 'mixed' supposed it depends on how mixable the tracks are from one to the next. From what I've been hearing they're victims of the fallout from the collapse of 3MV the distributors. Nothing confirmed but I've heard it's not good news.Tru-Thoughts have had to put their release schedule on hold for the same reasons.
