RE: (313) Most Cherished 313 Vinyl.
Being quite strict about it helps to narrow down one's choices - i.e., it needs to have been produced and possibly even manufactured in Detroit. In that case I would choose this (today): http://www.discogs.com/release/173168
Re: (313) Most Cherished 313 Vinyl.
Still this one: http://www.discogs.com/release/33253 Visions of Music, Santonio, on Serious Grooves. The first Detroit record I bought, back in 1993. We were sheltered on the west coast back then. There were a few Detroit releases that were fairly popular but no techno orientation to speak of. My friend Alex Windsor, a UK expat, had a store called Gaia Mantra on 17th Valencia in SF, mostly stocked with European techno and IDM, but he had some Detroit stuff including this. I have lots of other very cherished releases, of course, including a boot with Charivari and Blow Your House Down, but I ain't sayin' where that came from. fh - these are up there http://www.discogs.com/release/1033 http://www.discogs.com/release/37883 http://www.discogs.com/release/4277 http://www.discogs.com/release/29808 http://www.discogs.com/release/4853 http://www.discogs.com/release/23835 what a cruel exercise MEK Lee Herrington [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote on 04/27/2007 10:59:06 AM: It's Friday, and I'm curious. RE: (313) Most Cherished 313 Vinyl.
3 records come to mind: Disco D - The D Down EP Matthew Dear Dave Shayman Hands Up For Detroit Both records were given to me by Disco D, the D Down I got during the release party at Solar, Hands Up... I got during a visit to his office/apartment in downtown A2. and 808 State - Pacific promo: This was originally a vinyl only release for A List DJ's ONLY according to the label. 6 tracks, including the best version of Pacific; Pacific 0101. The only other way to get this particular version was on cassette. The track was a Detroit staple from 89 to 93. It was hell getting my hands on this one. -Original Message- From: Lee Herrington [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, April 27, 2007 8:59 AM To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: (313) Most Cherished 313 Vinyl. Re: (313) Most Cherished 313 Vinyl.
My most cherished piece of vinyl is:- Equinox - Chapter 1 on retroactive cad004. Some wicked tunes on there, and rare as rocking horse ***t My favourite bits musicaly are :- Kenny Larkin - Metaphor lp and loop 2 [12] And the d'arcangelo brothers did a 12 in the mid ninties on out of orbit that is the best techno I had heard at the time. It has stuck with me as one of the best tunes of the time. It didn't get a lot of play though. So it was lost, and I cannot remember the name, or can I find it in my massive collectiondam. Oh...and LA SYNTHESIS - AGROPHOBIA Ben On 28/4/07 12:45 am, Dan Bean [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Ugh... erm, here's a few to start off with: Dopplereffekt - Infophysix - Dataphysix Engineering Boby Franklin Insanity - Sexplot - Westbound Eddie Kendricks - Slick - Tamla + Every Juan Atkins record I own. Re: (313) Most Cherished 313 Vinyl.
well discogs is down this morning so i have no idea what you guys are listing, but mine is juan atkins' magic tracks -- the bootleg 8-track vinyl version, not the official 4-track version on tresor. it has scan 7's 21st century which is mindblowing melodic oldstyle scan 7 (like the UR ep's) that has never otherwise been on vinyl (seek it out, such a totally slept on classic detroit track..), as well as intellitronic pixel which is drexciya under another name doing a super stripped and undercooled electro-funk jammy, and also nowhere else on vinyl. plus super dope ron cook, 2x juan, 1x eddie, drexciya positron island, and optic nerve going deep. it is a mindblowingly good compilation, 100% winners, rare chit or not...UNBELIEVABLE that it never got a proper 2x12 release, the bootleg is mastered like ass and is so quiet it is virtually unplayable out. the whole thing blew my mind in 1994/1995 when i was still just discovering real/detroit techno, and it was the first drexciya i owned (positron island is quite an intro to drexciya! but then again, any old drexciya track is pretty shocking to the uninitiated)...this record should be worth big bux, but until/unless those unreleased-on-vinyl tracks get another release, i could never ever part with it...i know i'll never find it again, unlike many other complete-classic 313 records i treasure... runners up would include eddie fowlkes - planet claire (back2basics) drexciya 1-5 orlando voorn - the living room LP + 12 (night vision) juan orlando - game one (metroplex) hoodlum - 2x12 (drama) rob hood - movable parts 2 2x12 (m-plant) model 500 - deep space 2x12 (rs) infiniti - the infiti collection 2x12 (tresor) moodymann - silent intro (planet e) e-dancer collection 3x12 (planet e) dan curtin - deception 2x12 (sublime) dbx - bleep/phreak/flying saucer/back2dabeat (Accellerate) shake claude young - frictional #1 bfc/psyche - elements 2x12 (planet e) aux 88 - my a.u.x. mind 12 (direct beat) alien fm 2x12 (430 west/direct beat) r-tyme - trance fusion transmat urban culture - the wonders of wishing (trance fusion) shake - club scam (trance fusion) electronic warfare 2x12 (UR) ISF 3x12 (UR) chez n trent - i never knew love, the choice, don't try, all the ones on kms...i don't have any of the really dope prescription/balance ones or i'd list those.. and lots more.. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Apr 27, 2007 12:21 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: (313) Most Cherished 313 Vinyl. these are up there http://www.discogs.com/release/1033 http://www.discogs.com/release/37883 http://www.discogs.com/release/4277 http://www.discogs.com/release/29808 http://www.discogs.com/release/4853 http://www.discogs.com/release/23835 what a cruel exercise MEK Lee Herrington [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote on 04/27/2007 10:59:06 AM: It's Friday, and I'm curious. I couldn't narrow it down to just one. Maybe a top 6 (because there's always one more that I want to add). Re: (313) Most Cherished 313 Vinyl.
May sound cliche - I'm only 24 - but Convextion's Matrix 01 and the original Hi-Tech Jazz 2x12 are probably my most cherished 313- related records. They opened my mind to a whole new music spectrum the first time I listened to them in the late 90s. Antonio On Apr 27, 2007, at 4:59 PM, Lee Herrington wrote: It's Friday, and I'm curious. Re: (313) Most Cherished 313 Vinyl.
Since I'm in class and bored. 7th City - Planet Earth/Trance Missions - for the only reason that it is in green clear vinyl and has chunks of inside the pressing (it looks like they used recycled vinyl to press it) in terms of music-wise: Fix: Flash on KMS. Even though Voorn is Dutch, he's Detroit enough for me. back to the international drug trafficking regime -m On 4/27/07, Matt Kane's Brain [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: ph concept - balanced ep - soiree first 313 techno record i ever bought, didn't listen to it for a few years thereafter as i had no decks :) On Apr 27, 2007, at 11:59, Lee Herrington wrote: It's Friday, and I'm curious.
