RE: (313) the face may 1988?

And in another little tweak to the info put on here I don't know of a KMS remix
of any of her tracks (though there may be one) but
her single Fine Time had a Juan produced track; Dream on the b side, which
I love still play from time to time. In fact due
to this I was surprised she wasn't better known on here, maybe it's just me
that thinks it's great! I did like a couple of the
tracks (Where Has All The Love Gone and Got To Share) off her album at the time
too. She sang on Coldcut's first (I think) single
too.

Somewhere along the line you chaps have become hopelessly confused, I'm
 afraid to say.

 1. That is NOT Alison Moyet on the cover.

Alison Moyet was in the UK group Yazoo [with Vince Clarke], AKA Yaz in the US
 for copyright considerations.

 2. The woman on the cover is a woman who was a UK pop-house act called 'Yaz',
 late '80s, early '90s.

 3. Eric is NOT Vince Clarke. Vince Clarke left Depeche Mode after their first
big hits and commenced a series of projects,
including the
 one with Alison Moyet, afterwards.

 4. The 'Eric' referred to on Yazoo's first LP called 'Upstairs at Eric' is
not a real person of course.

But it is a hint about a real person who was associated with Yazoo early on:
one Mr. Eric C. Radcliffe. [E.C. Radcliffe on the
liner notes
 of the LP].

 He was a sort of arranger/ manager/ engineer / producer / all-round figure
who knows a lot but prefers to skulk around in the

RE: (313) the face may 1988?

2010-06-15 Thread Odeluga, Ken
Indeed - in my post-industrial apocalyptic neo-media sedated mind ala Gibson
and MacLuhan, I've managed to confabulate the names of one pop singer called
Yazz, a pop group with two names [one for the UK and one for the US] with two
trade names of an oral contraceptive produced by a German company [one for the
UK, one for the US].

http://pharma.bayer.com/scripts/pages/en/news_room/news_room/news_room89.php

Beat that.

Don't take them by the way, they're both the subject of US class action.

Apropos on topic, BayerMaterialScience's Automotive Products Center is a big
Detroit employer:

they were known as Yazoo in Europe, and as Yaz in the States. they were
distributed in the US as Yaz because the name Yazoo was already in use by
a small American band.

Wasn't the guy in the group (Eric?) one of the original Depeche Mode
guys? In my opinion he took a lot with him after he left DM (after
the first album I believe). That first album was groovier than post
Eric material.

Re: (313) the face may 1988?

2010-06-14 Thread darnistle

Hold on.

Alison Moyet was the vocalist for Yaz (Situation, State Farm,
Nobody's Diary, Don't Go, etc), as they were called here in the US.

The woman on the cover of that issue of The Face is not Alison Moyet.
According to discogs, her name is Yasmin Evans:

honestly i just read it was the first feature on techno, so i was
curious to see/trace the root of the other world's perception of the
sound.

Plus its probably super rad and an awesome memory lane show my friends
