RE: [313] Kirk Degorgio

2002-01-25 Thread Batory, Jason
 ... so I really doubt he's explored
his head to the extent he needs to, to produce something truly outstanding.
But I believe he will. To me, the As One thing is a tight LP, good quality
and from the heart ... but doesn't got the last, great step. Not quite.

As far as the new album goes I agree, but I'll also add that, in my opinion,
he has already taken this great step and produced something truly
outstanding with the Planetary Folklore LP back in 97. An absolute classic.

Respect
JasonB

I can't see how people can be even talking about writing him off. Offworld
may have been very different and at times more acid jazz than techno and
could have passed for even the brand new heavies in places, but it was
still funky and musically sound. And even if anyone didn't like that you
only had to turn to his new and amazing As One LP '21st Century Soul' and
all the recent stuff hes put out on 12...'Nairobi' was superb as was the
'Another Revolution' 10 inch. Personally I think hes enjoying something of
a musical peak right now.

RE: [313] Kirk Degorgio

2002-01-24 Thread Odeluga, Ken
IMHO, I dunno about 'brilliant' ... I'd say he's yet to live up to his
potential as a producer ... I believe he spent much of the last decade
finishing his Phd - it seems (to me) he dj'ed to support himself and
produced very little, whilst he studied ... so I really doubt he's explored
his head to the extent he needs to, to produce something truly outstanding.
But I believe he will. To me, the As One thing is a tight LP, good quality
