I'll concede that arguably it is being psuedoforced in a club/DJ situation. But if I'm not mistaken you're talking about a record that you may or may not choose to buy, in fact correct me if I'm wrong, is this one track on the record? You could choose to not play it. Also true. However, while it's everyone's right to do what they want with their art, in this case, for me, it's just a little irritating as, while it is only one track on the record, it's the one I would like best if it wasn't for the vocal. That's not because I'm freaking at the message being read out. It just sounds a bit cheesy over what would, for me, be a better track otherwise.
Re: (313) New Kenny Larkin 12 out now!
I think I just have a particularly sore spot for the whole the secret thing. Want to apologize to the list for blowing it out of proportion, I guess it's just a personal issue that nobody else really shares. As many others have said, carry on. :) I certainly don't want to come across as closed minded or negative. The b-side of that new larkin record sounds quite good! peace, frank dj mix archive: http://www.deejaycountzero.com On Sat, Jun 7, 2008 at 8:45 AM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:Michael.Elliot- [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 06 June 2008 18:50 to me it just sounds like he's sampled someone going on about being one with the universe and so on - the exact same type of lyrics that have worked well on dancefloors since the advent of disco relax about this already peeps - it's just a dance tune NAIL. RE: (313) New Kenny Larkin 12 out now!
I'm prepared to bet that this new age philosophy-'nonsense' track is at the very least mildly ironic, even if it does reference a real organization - I don't know. Or it could be a completely fabricated joke. It does have an air of shabbiness to me like some cheaply made video you're invited to order following one of those 10 minute adverts on cable TV. You know, the kind of video that is good to watch whilst meandering on the herbacious border, if you're into that sort of thing. I can't believe that someone of Mr. Larkin's intelligence, subtlety and complexity would present this as something de facto representative of what he really believes. [It takes a twisted mind and perhaps even one tortured by ambiguity] to be even a half-good comedian imo, and he's more than that]. I could be wrong. I think the vocals are quite neutral in the sense that they probably spark up very different views and thoughts in people, depending on who's listening in which mood, life situation etc. And whilst it is just a dance tune, good pieces of art seem to give birth to (good) conversation. Green Velvet's Preacher Man has a bit similar mood in it, at least with the lyrics. :) Jussi Lehtonen Metaprogram yourself. That final bass track has some cool off-beat -ish effects and chords, which would probably be great dancing around and wobbling in a dark spot, but not really sure about the utility of the You Are track. Kenny Larkin is definitely a big hero for me, between his mixing and his achievements (on some) of the tracks for his Warp releases. A lot of it is a lot of techno-funk-jazz-digital-arrangement, if I had to give it a name. Given that, (on some) of his tracks, I'm just not sure where it is coming from. I must not be one of the one energy field which we are all a part of. Re: (313) New Kenny Larkin 12 out now!
We are one - we are all part of the one energy field of the something something mind of the one consciousness, call it whatever you want, but we are all one? Funnily enough I agree with concept that we are all one energy field/ spirituality, and I'm not alone in thinking that either. (If you're curious maybe read some Alan Watts, I like the way he describes these things). Not keen on hearing it put like that in that track though. Oh well, I think the track 'Bassmode' is nice enough though. robin...
Re: (313) New Kenny Larkin 12 out now!
Should go down well on the dance floor, the bass works really well on the A1 track - nice and deep, as for the vocals, nice retro vibe. m

I enjoyed tremendously Dark Comedy's Tellin Lies (original mix, mayhaps?), especially with headphones. It was nice to listen to mr Larkin's track in the middle, and the two vocal stories going on on each side - Ma'am!. :D As I most likely said previously (a while back), it would be nice to listen more of the standup comedian -side of his work embedded into the tracks. This album http://www.discogs.com/release/403776 is full of really funny vocal samples. There's a clip of him doing stand up on his myspace page iirc.
