Now that you mentioned it, I've been getting a whole lotta mileage out of
Declan and his DJ partner Richard Campbell's website of late -
http://www.r-n-d.net/

Plenty of mixtape gold in the Sounds section, not least of which are the
couple of R'n'D mixes at the bottom of the page...

They have a track lined up for a Yoruba Records comp right? Think it's due
out next month.

haha, get you!

actually I thought it was about music biz gangsters making sh*tloads of cash
selling dodgy music and lifestyles to ignorant clubbers, but I've never been so
what the hell would I know!

I was surprised/saddened by how many people in Detroit asked me whether I'd
been to Ibiza. I was tempted to launch into rants about 'The White Isle', but
somehow I couldn't get the energy. My weirdest conversation by far was with the
bloke who came to change the tire on my car. For the record, that's not the
sort of thing that I'd normally get other people to do, but it was a hire care
and there was some kind of weird mechanism to release the spare tire that I
couldn't figure out, anyway...

Tyre Guy: So, where you from man?
Me: The UK
TG: The Ukraine?
Me: No, England.
TG: Oh Man, I LOVE England, I've always wanted to visit!
Me: Really, why's that?
TG: Phil Collins man! I love that guy, ever since susudio I been checking his
sh*t for real!
Me: Are you sure?
TG: Oh yes, he da man! Hey, you know him or sumink?
Me: No, not really, I think he's a tax exile in Barbados these days anyway.
Tyre Guy looked quite upset about this. I think he was hoping to pop round to
his house and say hello.

Re: (313) Seen It All?

2005-06-14 Thread Michael . Elliot-Knight

Well, she is the daughter of Mick Jagger and has grown up in and around
musicians I would guess that she's got some musical talent and can probably
tell if two tracks are out of synch with each other and which track is
slipping (better than lots of big name DJs). And from this article it
sounds like she has decent taste in music...

http://observer.guardian.co.uk/omm/recorddoctor/story/0,11109,1044069,00.html
Unsurprisingly, Jagger knows how to throw a good party. She warms up
generally with reggae, before making the switch to hip hop, but she's got
an ongoing project to introduce different kinds of music to the Ibiza
scene. 'Ibiza is obsessed with house music, and it's so single minded and
so drug fuelled... So next party, I want to play some blues, and some funk
and some rare groove and stuff. Maybe even some country.' She doesn't DJ,
she says, 'but I'm quite controlling, and so I guess I DJ in that other
people play the records, and I stand in the background and dictate. And I
do have a mild fantasy of becoming DJade.'

Jagger would takes tunes over lyrics every time ('Well, beats, at least')
but she doesn't understand the current crop of house music. 'I grew up with
house, but it was different then. More like soul music. It had lyrics. Now,
I don't even know how people buy house. How do you distinguish one record
from another?' She thinks the sexiest music imaginable is 'anything that
falls behind time. Like Prince, or old reggae. It's like slow sex, and
you're desperate for it to go faster.' Too much trance will spoil a night
for her, and Lauryn Hill's The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean
featuring Mary J. Blige's '911' will make her cry. 'It's very egotistical,
all that. You relate the music to you, to your relationships.' But now, she
says, music mainly reminds her of her kids. 'I'll be away and listen to pop
music, and it's like I'm there, seeing them do their routines in the living
room.'

I'm confused about this part though -
>"I guess I DJ in that other people play the records, and I stand in the
background and dictate."

So, she's not DJing? Is that what the "presents Jezebel" thing is about?
She's selecting tracks for someone else to play?

If her name wasn't Jagger she wouldn't be a "celeb" DJ - just a DJ with a
good selection of tracks. Frankly, if she's playing good tunes (and "too
much trance will spoil a night for her") she's ok in my book.
