Maybe a bit late to chime in, but I've seen that among the many great tracks
mentioned, there is at least one mising Vampire island... oh well.

That's definitely up there! Whenever someone says I don't
 know Drexciya, I
always think you don't know and that track starts playing
 in my head...

But for me the best Drexciya track is Aqua Worm Hole from Drexciya 2 -
tear-jerkingly beautiful piece of work. The sparkling synth
 sounds like
sunlight glinting off the waves of Lardossa.

Another track that hits me right there is The Journey Home
 from the Warp
EP - I find it hard to describe what images that one evokes. It has a
similar feeling to Sighting In The Abyss from the Wavejumper EP, but
there's an air of perfection about The Journey Home that
 Sighting...
 doesn't have.

Then there's Wavejumper itself - angry combat Drexciyans! It's very
poignant to listen to now, though, as there is one less Wavejumper 'in
 existence today'...

Sea Quake on the first Drexciya EP (Deep Sea Dweller)
 announced Drexciya's
coming in terrifying fashion - a scorcher of a track. I think
 one thing
Drexciya were uniquely skilled at doing was imbuing their
 synthesisers with
a seething, boiling anger and fury while at the same time
 retaining a wild
funkiness, and this blew me away when I first heard it.

Basically you need to buy all the Drexciya records you can
 get, but most
particularly the series on UR/Shockwave. Drexciya 2, the
 Unknown Aquazone
double-pack, and the Warp EP are imho the three records you
 should be most
desperate to own, if You Don't Know...

From I Want to Change the World by Karim Rashid:

When I hear words that keep us believing
That the world is changing
That it changes as we speak,
I BELIEVE The future WILL NOT BE bleak

We will have an impact on the future
The rebirth of time and space
We are not aesthetically bankrupt,
There is a single human race

Beauty in the cites,
Flexible inside,
Soft and colorful,
A RAPTUROUS place to hide

I want to love all the time,
Love everyone in our biosphere
Keep the thought powerful
Without shedding a tear

Sensual romantic world,
a physical and digital rebirth,
elevating our collective pleasure
One church, one mirth

A casual world we will be,
Like Atlantis in the sky and the sea,
One global paradise we will see

For me 'Lardossen Funk' is the tune I always drop, though as an album I've
always really liked Neptune's Lair despite many people feeling indifferent
towards it.

As for the sad newswhat can be said? It would be tragic under any
circumstances, but he seemed to really be musically on a roll recently and on
something of a mission to re-launch the Drexciya name with releases on Clone,
Tresor and I know he had many other projects planned with smaller labels. I
really hope this music will still materialise as a fitting musical tribute.

2002-09-05 Thread Chana Goodman

As some of you may know I dont write a lot on 313, mostly I just listen.
Today however is different, I am not so concerned about cluttering up the
list or saying something that has already been said. Not enough could ever
be said about Drexciya. This duo has done so much for me and so many
others, teaching us all about the depths and possibilities of music. They
were pioneers and very brave men who knew there were others out there, like
them, simply listening, with out fear.

Indeed, it is a sad day, but also a day of careful consideration. Slowly
but surely great men and women pass away as they always have and always
will. Our job is to remember, and to carry on with the strength and bravery
they alloted us, we were their students. With all my heart and mind I will
move forth in my near future, trying my damndest to muster every bit of
innovation and inspiration that was passed down to me. I will use it and
create with it and that is a vow.

My condolences to all who knew and loved James Stinton. Please know that his
work and efforts have certainly not ended.

RE: [313] A great tragedy and loss......... (fwd)

2002-09-05 Thread Chana Goodman

I apologize for the mispellingJames Stinson

As some of you may know I dont write a lot on 313, mostly I just listen.
Today however is different, I am not so concerned about cluttering up the
list or saying something that has already been said. Not enough could ever
be said about Drexciya. This duo has done so much for me and so many
others, teaching us all about the depths and possibilities of music. They
were pioneers and very brave men who knew there were others out there, like
them, simply listening, with out fear.

Indeed, it is a sad day, but also a day of careful consideration. Slowly
but surely great men and women pass away as they always have and always
will. Our job is to remember, and to carry on with the strength and
bravery they alloted us, we were their students. With all my heart and
mind I will move forth in my near future, trying my damndest to muster
every bit of innovation and inspiration that was passed down to me. I will
use it and create with it and that is a vow.

My condolences to all who knew and loved James Stinton. Please know that
his work and efforts have certainly not ended.

All I can imagine right now are calm seas, tides withdrawn out of
respect for the passing of the tsunami.

Has anyone got a photograph of Mr. Stinson? I'd like to do a digital
painting in his memory. I've been meaning to do a piece with a
Drexciyan motif for a while . . . I now wish I'd started on it sooner.
