RE: (313) Lawrence (was Dj livingrooms)

2006-10-02 Thread Toby Frith
I once saw someone describe him as Goth-House which although laughable as a
title, does some justice in describing the very autumnal feel to his music.
He's got a very special ability to create a lot of space in the melodies he
uses. Wonderfully sparse yet absorbing music.

Yeah man, Lawrence is the bomb. Check out the Eccentric 12 under his
Sten alias, and Leaving The Frantic LP by the same, and the beautiful
The Night Will Last Forever LP by Lawrence.

As T says, if anyone accuses you of turning your nose up at most
(so-called) 'minimal' you can cite people like this guy...

ive never even heard of the guy.

Not sure if it would be your thing so much. He runs Dial, if that helps
any.
He's really good live. 'Minimal' without being particularly minimal, and
a
fair amount of good ambience thrown in. His melodies tend to be great. I
only have his Sten remix of Pantha du Prince's 'Butterly Girl', which is
pretty dope. It moves around really well.

NOT just you...it rings pretty clear in the first few tracks...but when you
get to #10 it's more than clear.

Speaking of Lawrence Burden - anyone on that single Blackwater by Octave
One??? That's one stellar tune right there. One side is an extremely
jumping House tune, the other side is a true detroit instrumental with
full strings. If you haven't heard it yet, check it out.

love it. i know i'll get reamed for this but i kinda wish that the vocals
were fuller though.

i like the new KMS too, a wacky Asian-sounding track on the one side and a
slightly more tribal cut on the flip.
