Self Promotion
I released 2 albums on Bandcamp Friday this month. The first was released by Component Recordings: https://componentrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/chaircrusher-music-for-upholstery The second I self-released: https://chaircrusher.bandcamp.com/album/daddy-or-chips The Component album has been in the works a couple of months. The self-released one came about partly to get in on the Bandcamp Friday release schedule, and partly because releasing 2 albums in one day is a stunt. Both albums are me on my bullshit. Mostly ambient, occasionally beats, based around a lot of distressed field recordings and shortwave radio sampling.
A quick moment of self-promotion
Triplicate Records has released my new album SWL. Getting good feedback on it. It's pay what you want for a limited time. A mixture of ambient and 80 bpm dub techno and the mutterings of a crazy evangelical preacher on shortwave. https://triplicaterecords.bandcamp.com/album/swl

I really like Jäkälä -- 'Mandolin' in particular seems to partake of a bunch of influences that come together in original ways. It has the kind of compositional care I associate with Stewart Walker, and the Moroder-esque bassline towards the end is brilliant. Your biggest commercial obstacle is that no one can figure out how to type 'ä' in Windows. It isn't bad in OS X (alt-u a) but in Windows it's alt-numeric keypad-bum f0ck something ... (313) self-promotion -- attention Labels, Publicists, lend me your ears!
This is a one time post, I hope you'll indulge me. I am trying to get a small business going doing promotional writing for record labels -- one sheets, web verbiage etc. I have been writing reviews for years, for publications such as Groove Magazine, Alternative Press (before they started sucking), and local publications. You might not know it from what I post to the 313 list, I'm actually a fairly thoughtful, articulate writer. When I review music, I try always to be specific in descriptions and illuminate what the artist intends and achieves. Consequently my reviews often get posted to band websites. So I'm already doing promotional writing, in effect, and (mostly) not getting paid for it! If you have any interest in such a service, I work cheap and fast! Drop me a line off-list.
(313) My New EP (Shameless self-promotion)
Hi List, Well, I'm pretty proud of this new EP and since I lived in the Detroit area a while (Ferndale/9 mile to be precise), maybe it tangentially qualifies as 313 music... ;-) Here's the scoop: Klectik003 - Dave Powers – Into The Twilight EP, Featuring a remix from Camea 12 Vinyl Available Now Get if from Neuton, Juno, Downtown161, and Gramaphone Records in Chicago... (and elsewhere) Receiving Support From Par Grindvik, Inside Out, Maetrik, Bryan Zentz, and Elon A1. Freakmachine A2. Mr. Monster B1. Mr. Monster (Camea's Remix) B2. Pod-Op After much success with his track, The Bomb, featured on the Klectik001 various artists EP, Chicago - based producer, Dave Powers returns. He is debuting his first solo EP for the Detroit label, entitled Into the Twilight, presenting 3 exquisite original cuts, as well as a dark, stripped - down remix from minimal superstar/Clink Records' own, Camea (Clink, Clickhouse | Brooklyn, Berlin). A1. Freakmachine is a succinct tech house jam, littered with infectious basslines and snappy synths. While these elements give the track a swingy, house groove, Powers throws in some funky, electro-tinged, synthed - out breakbeats which will definitely keep the dancefloor moving throughout the track. A2. With Mr. Monster, Dave once again draws on his signature basslines while bringing in a few varying pitched tom melodies and bizarre twilight synth stabs that aim to drive the crowd into a frenzy. The track breaks off into a nasty staccato-laced snare drum breakdowns and loops back into the heart of the structure, layered with varied synth components that are accented by Dave's own tweaks and glitches. B1. Camea delivers a phenomenal remix of Mr. Monster on the B-side. She creates a shuffled groove via short delays and random reverb touches. Camea applies her production skills via a haunting, heavily pitched synth that pushes the track through its' subtle changes, in both intensity and power. This remix definitely takes things into dark territories and is sure to be a staple of many of dj's sets worldwide. B2. Powers rounds things out with a deep and more minimal groove with Pod-OP, which is filled with booming bass tones that warm the room with their sub frequencies. The track takes its listeners on a minimal tech journey with its moody synths and warped sounds.

First the importoant: I recently downloaded a luke vibert mix titled : Luke Vibert and Deadly Avenger - Live at radio one's One World. There are a ton of great songs played in this mix, so I'll start with the beginning, what's the very first track played in the mix, before Luke starts doing his voice over? To me it sounds like a great combination of detroit techno and hip house. Second, I've put out a new mix, it's about a month old by now, but if anyone is interested in a copy, let me know. I don't have anywhere to host it currently, so it'd either have to be personally ftp'ed or mailed, or something of that nature. It's a bit of everything, from techno, to house, to experimental, to acid. -Andy

[313] Digital Soul records press release (Blatent self promotion! Sorry)
Hi 313 Just to let you know that the first release on Digital Soul records is still available from all good record stores :) Or from www.kudosrecords.co.uk if you cannot track it down. The follow up is due out in January featuring a killer remix from Holland's Duplex, sign up at www.digital-soul.co.uk for updates! While it might seem somewhat premature to award the first release on UK label Digital Soul 'sureplayer' status, let's not forget that Mik Poynter, aka Splinterfaction, has been making deeply emotive techno for years as Fat Filters, and [this] continues his fascination with the soulful, jazzy end of the Detroit sound. 'Paradisiac' is the kind of shuffling, sensuous groove last heard on Ian O'Brien's 'Mad Mike Disease', while the rest of the EP comes across like a slowed down version of UR's 'Galaxy 2 Galaxy' pilled up on Prozac. It might sound like a cliche, but [this] is one of the best techno records never to come out of Detroit. Sureplayer * DJ Magazine 6-19 Oct The aim for Digital Soul records is to release quality electronic music based largely around the original spirit of Detroit techno, fusing man with machine; cold electronics with human warmth, soul and plenty of funk. This is not to say that the intention is to put out purely Detroit clones. Digital Soul comes about from a 12-year love affair with the deeper, more melodic side of techno from across the globe. At a time where unoriginal and uninspiring music litters dance floors and record stores everywhere, we aim to put out music that will warm the dancefloor and connect it with the soul through deep and infectious electronic funk in its many forms. Splinterfaction : EP No1 (DS01) Release Date: 17th September #8216;An incredible mix between Jazz Detroit soul, really emotive chords and funky basslines, including a pure Detroit techno track to hit the dancefloor. The kind of record I would like to find more often!#8217; (Fabrice Lig #8211; 7th city, KMS, Raygun) A1: Doin#8217; it with a Prophet A2: Paradisiac B1. Theta Drive B2. Musical Inrigue The first release on Digital Soul comes courtesy of Mik Poynter who has previously recorded under the name of Fat Filters for the sadly now defunct Ugly Cutz, where he also remixed the K-Alexi Transmat classic #8216;My Medusa#8217;. After a creative hibernation of some years, he now returns with this incredible 4 tracker of deep, warm and infectious grooves, influenced from a variety of musical sources, from Detroit#8217;s Underground Resistance to the hi-tek Jazz infused grooves of Ian O#8217;Brien. Mixing a rich layering of broken beats, spine tingling melodies, funky grooves and tight techno rhythms, this EP presents a broad variety of styles, all joined by the deep underlying funk of a man in touch with the underground. With the likes of Claude Young, Fabrice Lig, Ian O#8217;Brien and Delsin records already digging the groove, this is just the first in a planned series of assaults by Splinterfaction due on Digital Soul. Take note for future releases from this promising label and its artists, as this is just the beginning#8230;#8230; Distributed through Kudos Records. self promotion -- new track on mp3.com
http://www.mp3.com/chaircrusher New track Solstice Beat -- conceived originally as a hip hop beat it gradually goes through a complete rhythmic deconstruction. 90 bpm, mixed dubwise live -- you can hear the crackle when I hit the mutes on my mixer. For the trainspotters amongst you -- Every sound in this track was computer generated primarily using the Vaz Modular software synth. A few hand-me-down drum samples from the internet were used, but there were no pre-recorded loops at all. The bit that sounds like a 12 string guitar plucking single notes is made just from massively processed sawtooth waves. The sweeping 'jet' sound comes from a delay with a flanger in the feedback path. The drums came from single hit samples, either hand-assembled in Sound Forge, or triggered in Vaz Modular. The little drum rolls comes from occasionally adding a fast LFO square wave to the sample trigger. I played with randomizing the re-triggering, so that you never hear the same drum pattern twice. Then I cut loops out of about 5 minutes or random mayhem. The bassline that comes in a few minutes in is made from a thick drone sound sampled and replayed using granular synthesis. It's then time stretched in Acid to where the sound breaks up, and then further effects added to smooth it out. It's called Solstice Beat because that's when I started making the track. kent williams -- [EMAIL PROTECTED]
