Re: (313) Environ news and new Kelley Polar

2005-11-16 Thread Cyclone Wehner
Isn't this amazing?
I loved it - so melodic and emotive and poetic. It's very dreamy. Prob my
fave electronic album at the moment.

I Got the new environ newsletter today and decided to buy the new kelley
 polar album from bleep.

Anyone else listened to it yet? Seems a bit different to previous
releases, quite a few vocals used.
Some of the tracks I really like and I think the album as a whole works.
I'm just not quite sure about some of the vocals. It's odd, I'm usually
all for vocals especially when done well. To me this album has an
unusual sound, some of the tracks have sounds of swayzak and others of
 kraftwerk.

Rooms InMyHouseHaveManyParties and Tyurangalila I like quite a bit, I'm
sure the others will catch after a few more listens.

UNCLASSICS #4

Hot on the heels of the UNCLASSICS mix CD, the fourth UNCLASSICS vinyl
voyage features a trio of sonic sauciness guaranteed to funk up your
 dancefloor!

Discotheque's Disco Special immediately became one of Morgan Geist's
favorite disco records when he dug it up in the used bin of a Boston
record
store in 1996.  The track in question is a gorgeous musical
masterpiece both
in terms of composition and production.  It seems to hit on every
aspect of
what we love about disco: the electronic synth patterns, the organic
drums,
piano and bass, and one of the fiercest and elegant percussion breaks
put to

 wax.

Zodiac's Pacific was a hit when released in the USSR in 1980, even
though
you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who knows the track outside
that
country and time period.  This track truly sounds timeless: a Balihu
record
from 1980! A cross between electronic funk and the soundtrack to
Spyhunter,

its melody is addictive and will stick in your brain.

Finally we have Eurofunk's Manshortage, a true Unclassic.  Creator
Lewis

Martinee (he of Expose, Ricky Martin remixes and countless freestyle
classics from Miami) was rumored to refer to the track the worst
thing I
have ever made.  Exactly, Lewis - that's why we love it!  A fun,
campy romp
through 808 beats and Italo basslines, the song is made even more
spinworthy

 with a re-edit from ELI-173.  Enjoy!

Note: we are anti-bootleg!  All UNCLASSICS tracks are licensed from
their
respective owners.  The records are professionally mastered and
lovingly
packaged.  UNCLASSICS  artwork is designed by the London-based art
director
Julian Morey, whose past and present clients include Factory Records,
The

Hacienda, The Face, London Recordings and Diesel Jeans.

 METRO AREA REPRESSES!

We are repressing ENV014 Metro Area 4 and ENV019 Metro Area 5 and
they

should be in stock at your local shop in a few weeks, probably by
mid-December.  We'll be doing more represses soon!

NEW CD: UNCLASSICS, MIXED BY MORGAN GEIST!

We are proud to present the UNCLASSICS CD mixed by Morgan Geist!
 This baby
is set to drop on October 26, 2004, and we'll provide more details as
the
release date gets closer.  For now, let's just say it's a choice mix
of rare
Italodisco, Euroboogie and other sonic rarities of the style Geist,
Metro
Area, Daniel Wang and others rock in their DJ sets.  And it's all
remastered
and pretty-looking with an elegant design by Julian Morey, our man
who did
work with Factory Records, New Order and Hacienda.  Look for more
details

soon, including supporting tour dates in your city!

 NEW KELLEY POLAR QUARTET!

That's right, the string freaks are back with some hot new wax for
you: the

Rococo EP!  For now we'll just say it's a mix of Ravell, old Hall
Oates-inspired beats and lots of funk.  Don't worry, there's also a
gorgeous
house jam on there for you DJs who like to hold it down in the
traditional

4/4 style!  This is due out at the beginning of October!

 NEW CD DISTRIBUTION!

We are proud to announce partnerships in Europe with MDM
(www.mutualism.de)
and in USA with Studio Distribution (www.studiodistribution.com).
 Japan
remains handled by Barefoot/Lexington, and our friends down under can
get us
through Stomp (www.stomp.com.au).  Plus you can still find new
releases in

 our online shop at www.environrecords.com!

JDSC IN THE STUDIO!

Morgiano and the Jersey Devil Social Club are busy busting out some
more
lost tapes as we type - with hope we'll have another 12 ready for
you

 this fall!

 That's all for now!

ENV019 METRO AREA 5 IN SHOPS!

That's right! The new Metro Area 5 (featuring the tracks Nerves and
Proton Candy, each spread thick and loud across a 45-RPM side) should be
your favorite shop now or in the next few days! Here's some pap our promo
mascot W. Knocka wrote about it (grain of salt, please):

It's been more than two and a half years since Metro Area last shook up the
scene with a 12 record, Metro Area 4, featuring 'MIURA' - a cult classic
that continues to cross over into DJ crates across the musical spectrum.
It's been over one and a half years since Metro Area released their
much-propped debut album. In the meantime, MA's sound was jacked by myriad
producers for so-called original productions and bootlegs abounded.

Rejecting the hype that surrounded their album, the duo of Morgan Geist and
Darshan Jesrani quietly pondered their next move. They were eager to get
back to the their favorite format, the 12 record, where the quality and
effect of the music on DJs, dancers and listeners (rather than the number of
magazine reviews) is the deciding factor between success and failure.

METRO AREA 5, the newest installment in Metro Area's 12 series, is the
result. This release finds the duo continuing on their quest for fresh
sounds and timeless production, expanding their palette while retaining the
emotional spirit of their first releases.

'Nerves' is a suspenseful, driving piece with an irresistible groove soaked
in frantic Latin percussion and fierce drums. Angular synthetic textures
trade off aggressively, finally arriving at a gorgeous and melancholic
destination awash in piano, strings and horns. 'Proton Candy' is just as
much of a floor mover with its super-tight electric bassline, but is more
playful in its approach, conjuring up dreams of teenage roller rinks
crossbred with hardcore disco and bubblegum RB. It's an intoxicating
cocktail that will leave you wanting to hear it (and dance to it) over and
over again.

Don't settle for a soulless clone; listen to the originals. Check out
METRO AREA 5 and rediscover what real, HONEST dance music innovation is all
about!

ENVIRON STORE RESTOCK ACTION!

Mucho thanks for the killer support! It's because of you that we have those
annoying words on order next to all the the vinyl in our store!

But never fear, restocks will be there next week:

ENVUN03 Unclassics #2 (Purple Flash)
ENV018 Jersey Devil Social Club EP

We'll also a number of the new Metro Area 5 in case you don't have a good
local shop to grab it at.

A few T-shirts are left. These are the last of what we have, so grab 'em if
you want 'em. New T-shirt designs coming soon!

UPCOMING RELEASES!

Fall is our favorite season. So while everyone is kicking it at the beaches
this summer, you know we'll be cooped up in the lab cooking up some killer
releases for you! Our 20th Environ vinyl release looks like it's shaping up
to be a collection of rare Environ tracks on doublepack. There will also be
new 12s from Kelley Polar Quartet, Morgan Geist and the Unclassics series,
plus some represses. Finally, we will be kicking the out Unclassics CD mix
compilation featuring some exclusive oldies not included in the 12 series
and more wonderful packaging from graphic designer Julian Morey.

That's all for now!
HAVE A HEALTHY AND PEACEFUL SUMMER!

ENV018 JERSEY DEVIL SOCIAL CLUB HAS LANDED!

The long-awaited JERSEY DEVIL SOCIAL CLUB EP is shipped and hits shops this
and next week! JERSEY DEVIL SOCIAL CLUB is an Environ record like none
other. A mysterious, wild mix of Italian disco, horror movie soundtracks,
electronic funk and the occult, this record nearly missed seeing the light
of day.

Originally conceived in 1982 as a tribute to 1979's disco masterpiece Black
Devil (released on Italy's tiny OUT RECORDS imprint), the project ran into
funding problems and was never released. The core of the J.D.S.C. group
consisted of two Italian immigrant brothers living in New Jersey, Lorenzo
and Vincenzo Capo. Vincenzo's daughter Anabella contributed spoken vocal
parts (apparently because she had almost no Italian accent!) and two Latin
percussionist friends of the brothers (credited simply as Carlos 1 and
Carlos 2) rounded out the lineup.

After a year of remastering from original tapes and fleshing out unfinished
tracks, and nearly 23 years after the project was born, Environ is honored
to present to you the incredible future/past gem, JERSEY DEVIL SOCIAL CLUB.
Listen to it in the dark...

*Label artwork was hand-designed artwork by infamous NYC-Chicago DJ and
artist, Porkchop (Redlite Discosystems).

NEXT RELEASE: NEW METRO AREA!

Metro Area have completed their next single. ENV019 Metro Area 5 will be
out in May as a two-track continuation of their 12 series.

ENVIRON STORE ACTION!

Sorry we ran out of shirts, but they are ALL now back in stock!
