plus, the dj booth looks a little more impressive with the 909, 707(?),
and sh-101 on hand. not to mention that, during the demf, and
possibly including any previous event at hart plaza, there were never more
people on hand than during richie's set.

RE: [313] ibex

2001-01-13 Thread Detroit Music

Hi Nath,

In response to your question concerning IBEX OASIS (PLANET E), I can say
this:

After hearing the uneasy funky beatprogramming, one almost immediately
thinks of the phusion-sound of West-London. But the fat synths place Ibex,
alias DJ/producer Tony Ollivierra, firmly in his 'own' Detroit. The samples
are from somewhere in the 70's, but Ollivierra clearly doesn't like
nostalgia. This is another proof of the fact that label-owner, Carl Craig is
firmly pulling the strings But it is however really a great record!!!

Pasta la pizza,

Jorrit Stevens.

Re: [313] Ibex and ID

2000-11-23 Thread DJ DMT

Got to say I'm highly impressed with the new
Planet E, Tony Olivierra under the name Ibex.
The a side, Oasis, is deep, perfectly orchestrated
strings and distant blended vox - don't miss!

On the special planet : E trip go find a mp3 of carl carig at fuse 16-7-2000
if you like carls (old) work you def. love to hear what he spins !!!

 Thomas Schumacher's new album, Electric
Avenue, is also really cool. So many different
styles. Ok some of them not to everyone's (or
my own) taste, but it's not often you hear this
much variety on a techno album. I like!

If it has 'good life' on it, it doesn't automatic make it a good album !)
Oke joke

Lastly, can anyone ID this track from a DJ Hell
set - vocal says north side boom, south side
boom, east side boom, west side boom (no
 laughing there Anya!!)

 cheers,

 Dan

Detroit Escalator Co Ibex releases...

2000-10-04 Thread Lance @ Inaudible
After almost a five year absense, Neil Ollivierra has returned
with a release of sublime detroit emotion. The first is a
double 10 on Peacefrog called Black Buildings which features
seven tracks of devine melodic string-laiden detroit ambience
and electronica including his track that appeared on last year's
Time:Space Transmat compilation. I cant say enough good
things about this new DEC release because for me, the sounds
represented on this release typify what I love about detroit
techno. Definitely a contender for my tops of 2k.

A full length DEC cd is forthcoming on Peacefrog and is said
to contain several of the tracks from the above release plus some
of the better tracks from his epic Soundtrack 313 album from
years ago on Ferox. So for those who missed Soundtrack 313
the first time around, you'll have your chance again soon

The second Ollivierra-related release is a 3-track 12 on Planet
E under the guise Ibex. But Ibex is by Tony Ollivierra not Neil.
This 12, which features three tracks, has the same soulful
emotion as the DEC releases but adds more of a jazzy house/
disco flavor that Planet E has been so good at recently.

Here are the release infos on both...

. Detroit Escalator Company: black buildings 2x10 (Peacefrog)
 Tracks:
 - the inverted man [dreaming]
 - float
 - plumb
 - sistrum
 - scram
 - duat
 - nebulae

Also...

. Ibex: oasis 12 (Planet E)
 Tracks:
 - Oasis
 - Bok Choy
 - Oasis (Dub)

Hope this helps!
