And also from the same book, it seems Cybotron (Rick Davies + Juan Atkins)
was a lot anterior to the May and Saunderson releases

The Cybotron releases came out ages before the term "techno" was around!
Clear and later Techno City first appeared over here on the early
Streetsounds Electro series which were released in 1983-4, and I put them in
my "electro" box without question! Techno started to appear over here about
1987-8 as acid house started to burn out through the media furore!

as far as I've gathered from Techno Rebels, Sharevari was released almost as
a joke, about at the same time as the Cybotron release, and nobody remembers
exactly which came first, so both are regarded as the first techno songS...

Yeah, I figured that this list probably gets this question a lot. I

thirsty for kowledge on this subject. *shrug*

I guess this is going to go to a long and painful thread on what _is_
techno.

I understand that often times "sharevari" is often stated as the "first"
detroit techno song. I know it was recorded in 1981, about a year before
the first Cybotron release. My question is, is it accurate to call it the
first "techno" song? More importantly, what ever happened to "a number of
names?" Did they put out many more tracks? I am curious because that is
one of my favroite tracks, but I was also under the impression that techno
began with "the 3 guys from Belleville" story. (and kraftwerk, and
chicago house).
