people just don´t know how to qoute and often leave the whole digest in their 
answer. So the next digest just contains that one mail plus the quoted previous 
digest. *sigh*

I set my settings yesterday day to mute non-English… it made me smile today 
when I opened up my email and could read every message :)

My last complaint, and it is minor is that I use dark mode on my computer. The 
new list insists on using a white background and black text, it is really 
bright compared to other applications. But is minor.

There is an option in preferences to receive an “Activity Summary” which isn’t 
quite like a digest, but I find it useful. And I only get them a couple of 
times per day.

I signed up for the forum and had both of these issues - languages and emails.

The language issue isn't a problem for me since I discovered how to force 
google translate to work on those pages by a right-click on a place with no 
text in Chrome browser, since it is my default browser. If I get an email and 
want to go further, I click on the button and it takes me to the forum.

For emails, there is a place in your own settings/preferences where you can 
have the emails sent to you, but I found the settings, amount of traffic, etc. 
fairly burdensome. It took me awhile to find where to set them as well. Now I 
still only really read the inug as the emails from the forum are too fast and 
furious and you can't really get a digest version.

Step 1 is to create an account on the forum if you don't have one. Then login 
and click on your user account icon at the top right. The rightmost icon in 
this popup (looks like a person) is for Preferences. Then click "Preferences" 
in the sublist.

Under Notifications/Categories on the left, select which categories you want to 
watch and which ones to mute. I'm watching Feature Request, Beta, and English 
Community. All the non-English communities are muted.

Then click on Emails on the left. Check the option for "Enable mailing list 
mode".

Agreed.  That’s the main thing that puts me off.  I just want to see English

The new forum supports email and it works well. I rarely visit the forum unless 
I want to post something with with code or attachments. Simply reply to the 
forum email to participate in the conversation. This list and the new forum go 
to my same mailbox with no real difference other than [4D Forum] prefixed to 
the subject lines.

When you setup your email options, just choose to follow the English Community 
to avoid seeing messages in other languages.

IMHO,
it is simpler, easier, and later a more local reference to have all of the 
various "support"
that used to be provided here, and is now on discuss, come TO me, rather then 
having to go get it.

if there is a topic of interest, or immediate need, the answer(s) come to me, 
rather then having to stop what I am/was doing to go look to see if it exists.

in addition, there has been no accommodation for additional topics of possible 
interest on discuss.
i.e. there is no 'misc' category, nor is there an employment section 
(available/wanted) which used to exist in the old "bad" forum.

4D could have simply opened this list to allow attachments, but chose not to.

I think we have all used email with attachments in the past, and are capable of 
handling such things

It was mentioned, not by you Graham, that '...4D was not obviously 
moderating...' they have in at least the above ways moderated the discussions; 
especially the employment area as this can/could/will have an impact on their 
'Professional services'.

exceptions, I can read all of the messages because I can understand the 
language.

I only speak two languages, English and Gilbertese… there are no Gilbertese 
messages. So I spend time on at the other place (not a lot but minutes) every 
day looking at message to see if I’m interested, the first think I do is try to 
read them, if they are in English I’m OK, if not it is wasted time.

I wish there was a filter so that I could only see messages in English.

Well, actually in my opinion there is nothing to judge here…

As already stated we are just a few, and splitting that small group by forming 
one rogue tiny group is not helping anyone, neither us, nor them.

So no, splitting off is not a good idea.

Also, the iNug is NOT a „safe space“ insofar, as 4d is (or at least used to) 
monitoring this. Also, I have yet to notice any instance of aggressive 
moderation on the new forum by 4d, and believe me, I would have noticed, being 
somewhat on the aggressive side towards 4d from time to time.

So in short:
I see no compelling case whatsoever for continuing to use the iNug, your 
mileage may vary.

As you well know, it takes a few years under the belt to become a good

site, and it's the place to be for anything V18. We should also welcome
