Re: [AI] Role of Internet Explorer
Hi, Firefox is an independent browser. Windows can work perfectly fine without firefox. The main difference between the 2 web browsers is that IE is built within the operating system and forms an integral part of windows and firefox is just another web browser independently developed with no implications on windows performance if it is not there and finally both web browsers coexist on the same PC harmoniously. Re: [AI] A Big Problem, Help Requested Soon.
Dear Sir, Thanks a million for all yr invaluable help & guidance. In yr previous mail on this subject u had asked me the name of the application/program for which the error message 'THIS PROGRAM HAS PERFORMED AN ILLEGAL OPERATION & WILL BE SHUT DOWN. IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS CONTACT THE PROGRAM VENDOR', is displayed, so now I want to tell u that this application is MS WORD. I've also started facing another problem, which is, earlier I had told u that JAWS 5.0 told me, spoke this error message when this error message was displayed & even after my unloading JAWS 5.0 each & e'y key , except the WINDOWS KEYwhich was pressed was being told, but now, without my trying to do anything, JAWS 5.0 simply stops speaking abruptly without giving any warning what so ever,it doesn't say anything, after running for 10-15 minutes with MS WORD or even sometimes with OUTLOOK EXPRESS. So now I don't come to know WHAT & WHEN ERROR MESSAGES ARE DISPLAYED. What do I do now? I also want to bring this fact to yr kind attn that I'm very confused, I just don't know why I'm facing these problems just after installing JAWS 5.0 & why only with MS WORD. Why did I not face any single problem when I was using the DEMO VERSION OF JAWS 4.5, except to restart my comp after e'y 40 minutes, while using the same PC with the same WINDOWS'98 & the same MS WORD. Thanks a million once again in anticipation for all yr invaluable help, guidance& suggestions which are truly deeply appreciated. With best regards. ANUBHA. TELE : 0532-2409434, 0532-3291880. Dear Kiran, it is my humble suggestion that you must have some sort of filtering the type and standerd of the content, before putting on the site. this would enable you to store the best possible content only. for example, if i sing a song, sang by an established singer, i'll no way be in any trouble but, as for copyright law on music, the web site owner must have a written permission from the original artist, clearly stating that he or she has no objection in allowing you to exibit his or her song's' recorded in others voice's'. thanks and regards, Keshav. - Original Message - From: "Kaja, Kiran" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Tuesday, September 12, 2006 1:31 PM Subject: Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR > Actually, I do have a plan to start some sort of a talent corner on the > AI site where I give some space for blind musicians and people with > other talents to put up their material for others to see. > > Regards, > Kiran. > > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of BHAWANI > SHANKAR VERMA > Sent: Tuesday, 12 September 2006 1:12 PM > To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in > Subject: Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR > > creating link in accessindia site, practically not possible, each > company > and programme producer has its own copyright, however, to put anything > on > site, you have to have a digital version of that particular object. i > just > posted that matter because diwakar is a blind and has also a tallent to > sing > a song. i was not a regular viewer of that particular programme, two or > three weeks ago, my friend rang me and told that some blind boy is > appearing > on that particular tv show, then i started listening that programme, if > he > just told that listen that particular programme, without referring > diwakar > with his disability, i never listen such programme. secondly, after > this > final show, i won't watch this programme, i believe on early to bed and > early to rise. say goodluck for diwakar and his show. thanks. > - Original Message - > From: "mufazal munshi" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: > Sent: Tuesday, September 12, 2006 12:50 PM > Subject: Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR > > >> kirans point is taken, but since i believe that at least one of us has >> probably listened to the fellow or atleast Bhawani has, then, lets > invest >> in his good faith and send an SMS. [AI] High-Capacity, Dual-Format DVD
High-Capacity, Dual-Format DVD Toshiba and Memory-Tech team up to develop a prototype three-layer DVD, HD DVD disc. Martyn Williams, IDG News Service Toshiba and Memory-Tech have developed a three-layer optical disc that can be read by both DVD and HD DVD players. The disc, which could be on the market early next year, will make it possible for movie companies to package both a standard definition and high-definition version of the same movie on a single disc. That would mean consumers wouldn't have to repurchase the same movies when or if they make the jump from DVD to HD DVD. A Higher-Capacity Disc The two companies previously developed a two-layer optical disc that can store both DVD and HD DVD, and commercial content on such discs is already on sale in Japan. The addition of a third layer means more standard or high-definition content can be recorded on the disc. Each layer is capable of storing about two hours of standard and four hours of high-definition content, the latter assuming the MPEG4 AVC compression is used. That means about four hours of SD and HD content can be stored if two layers are used for DVD and one layer for HD DVD. Before the disc can be commercialized it must be approved by the DVD Forum as an accepted standard. Toshiba will submit the required paperwork soon and hopes to get approval before the end of the year, said Yuko Sugahara, a spokesperson for Toshiba in Tokyo. If it succeeds then the disc could be offered commercially sometime early next year, she said. http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,127097-pg,1-RSS,RSS/article.html Vikas Kapoor, MSN ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Skype ID: dl_vikas Mobile: (+91) 9891098137. [AI] Samsung Unveils New Kind of Memory
Samsung Unveils New Kind of Memory Company says PRAM will replace NOR memory used in mobile phones. Dan Nystedt, IDG News Service Samsung Electronics unveiled a new kind of memory chip Monday, PRAM (phase-change RAM), aimed at replacing NOR flash memory in mobile phones. The new kind of chip, which will be commercially available in 2008, combines the faster data transfer speeds of DRAM (dynamic RAM) with the ability to retain data after power is shut off in a device, similar to flash memory. PRAM is effectively 30-times faster than flash memory, easier to manufacture, and will have a life span 10 times longer, Samsung said. Samsung will have to compete against Intel and Spansion, the two biggest makers of NOR flash memory, with PRAM. NOR is popular in mobile phones for its ability to quickly launch software programs. Most handsets contain NOR and NAND flash, the more popular flash memory valued for its ability to store huge amounts of data, such as songs, videos and photos. But PRAM will also have to compete with a host of other types of memory used in mobile phones, including DRAM , which costs less than most other memory chips due to its widespread use in PCs and video game consoles. Samsung plans to launch PRAM initially in a 512-megabit capacity, the same as the prototype it showed off on Monday. http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,127095-pg,1-RSS,RSS/article.html Vikas Kapoor, MSN ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Skype ID: dl_vikas Mobile: (+91) 9891098137. [AI] New High-Capacity Flash Memory
New High-Capacity Flash Memory Samsung unveils chip that can be used to create 64GB flash memory cards. Dan Nystedt, IDG News Service Samsung Electronics showed off its first 40-nanometer chip, a 32-gigabit NAND flash memory module that can be used in memory cards able to store up to 64 gigabytes of data, or 40 movies. The latest step into smaller chip manufacturing methods brings Samsung to the forefront of chip production, putting it ahead of other manufacturers, including Intel, which has only announced chips built at 45nm . The chips are also the seventh generation of NAND flash memory to follow in a Moore's law-type theory posited by Samsung, that the company will double the capacity of NAND flash every 12 months (read " Samsung Readies 32GB Memory Cards " for background. Smaller Chips Needed Such advances are vital to the consumer electronics industry. Users are demanding ever smaller devices that can do more, such as handsets with built-in mobile phone, computing, camera, and digital music playing functions. Demand for more storage to keep photos, videos, songs and other data has expanded rapidly over the past few years, and analysts expect the trend to continue. The 40nm chip production technique is key to making chips smaller, faster, more powerful, and cheaper to produce. A nanometer is a billionth of a meter, and the measurement is a guide to the size of the transistors and other parts that are etched onto the chips. Typically, the more transistors, and the closer they are together, the faster the chip can perform tasks. New Design Technique The company also revealed a new design technique, Charge Trap Flash (CTF), that will allow it to eventually shrink NAND chip features to 20nm, and produce 256-gigabit chips. In the 32-gigabit chips, the control gate in the CTF is only a fifth as big as conventional control gates on chips in a typical floating gate structure. With CTF, there is no floating gate. Instead, data is temporarily placed in a holding chamber made of silicon nitride. Chip for Hybrid Drives Samsung also released a new chip for its hybrid drives , a kind of hard drive aimed at laptops that uses NAND flash as a disk cache, to speed boot-up times and reduce power consumption The new chip, dubbed an SoC (system-on-chip) because it does the work of several chips, incorporates up to 4-gigabytes of NAND flash as a data buffer and helps further speeds boot-up times while lengthening battery life, the company said. The chips will be in mass production in November. Samsung is one of several companies working on hybrid drives. Seagate Technology and Intel are also developing the technology for notebook computers. http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,127103-pg,1-RSS,RSS/article.html Vikas Kapoor, MSN ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Skype ID: dl_vikas Mobile: (+91) 9891098137. [AI] Microsoft's New Search Engine Exits Beta Status
Microsoft's New Search Engine Exits Beta Status Software giant is eager to gain traction in competitive search engine arena. Juan Carlos Perez, IDG News Service Microsoft this week will remove the beta, or test, tag from Live Search, its next-generation search engine, and make it the underlying search tool at its MSN.com portal. The move comes as Microsoft anxious attempts to gain traction in the search engine market, where it remains a distant third behind leader Google and Yahoo. Because search engine-based advertising is a fast-growing, multibillion-dollar business, Microsoft has invested heavily in improving its search tools and accompanying ad network. It has, however, failed to make a dent in Google's dominance. So Far, Third Place In June, Google nabbed 45 percent of all U.S. search engine queries, while Yahoo got 29 percent and Microsoft 13 percent, according to comScore Networks. This represents a market share reduction for Microsoft of almost 3 percentage points from June 2005. The enhancements in Live Search are notable, but many of them are available from other providers, so they aren't likely to boost Microsoft's market share in any significant way, said analyst Greg Sterling of Sterling Market Intelligence. "Microsoft has to exceed Google's capabilities, not just match them," Sterling said. "Search engine usage is fairly habitual right now. Microsoft has to come up with dramatic innovations and create an obviously better search experience. That's difficult given the fierce competition." Timetable for Switchover Tomorrow through Thursday, Microsoft will replace the current MSN Search engine on MSN.com with Live Search, which features a revamped image search service, an improved local search, a redesigned user interface and new tools to refine query results, said Derrick Connell, general manager of the Microsoft search business unit. The change will take place progressively on different MSN host servers. When users run a search on MSN.com, they will be taken to a Live Search results page on the Live.com domain, but there will be links there to guide users back to the MSN.com portal, he said. Live Search went into public beta testing in March at Live.com , the home page of the Live-branded initiative Microsoft launched last year to boost its software-as-a-service offerings. Live.com also exits its beta status this week. Among the enhancements in Live Search are new options to view full-size photos in image search results and an increased number of "bird's eye" aerial images in local search, which is shedding its beta label in its U.S. and the U.K. services. Live Search also features a new social search service called QnA, in which users can pose questions and have others chime in with answers. Yahoo, Google, and others have similar question-and-answer search services. http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,127109-pg,1-RSS,RSS/article.html Vikas Kapoor, MSN ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Skype ID: dl_vikas Mobile: (+91) 9891098137. Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR
Actually, I do have a plan to start some sort of a talent corner on the AI site where I give some space for blind musicians and people with other talents to put up their material for others to see. kirans point is taken, but since i believe that at least one of us has probably listened to the fellow or atleast Bhawani has, then, lets invest in his good faith and send an SMS. It may not do so much harm to our Equal opportunity demand and at the same time might land up giving the boy some leverage. our demand for equal opportunity is a social norm that we need to establish to persons outside of our realm of blindies. within our limited judgement if we were to create a ground for one amongst us, the idea of social equality may not become challengeable. none the same now the time to take action has passed, as our SMS's may hold no value. but, perhaps in the future if such a request was found with a link to our access india site allowing all to listen to the talent of any candidate, then, not only would one be able to excercise ones own judgement about the person concerned but also remove scope to any misunderstanding. i hope my opinion will not be met with offense. - Original Message - From: "Kaja, Kiran" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Mukesh Sharma" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Sent: Tuesday, September 12, 2006 11:32 AM Subject: Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR > As I mentioned in my earlier posts, whether to vote or not to vote is an > individual decision of each of us. Recently only I started see mail of Access India. Very much thanks for guiding me. Anil. "Kaja, Kiran" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Anil, I don't know if you are aware of the guidelines of AccessIndia list. Whe n she got up to see what it was, she found a needle sticking out of the seat with a note attached saying "You have just been infected by HIV". The Disease Control Center (in Paris ) reports many similar events in many other cities recently. All tested needles were HI V Positive. The Center also reports that needles have been found in cash dispensers at public banking machines. We ask everyone to use extreme caution when faced with this kind of situation. All public chairs/seats should be inspected with vigilance and caution before use. A careful visual inspection should be enough. In addition, they ask that each of you pass this message along to all members of your family and your friends of the potential danger. Recently, one doctor has narrated a somewhat similar instance that hppened to one of his patients at the Priya Cinema in Delhi. A young girl, engaged and about to be married in a couple of months, was pricked while the movie was going on. The tag with the needle had the message "Welcome to the World of HIV family". Though the doctors told her family that it takes about 6 months before the virus grows strong enough to start damaging the system and a healthy victim could survive about 5-6 years, the girl died in 4 months, perhaps more because of the "Shock thought". We all have to be careful at public places, rest God help! Just think about saving a life by forwarding this message. Please, take a few seconds of your time to pass along.
