[AI] Made changes to MS Word settings and need help to correct

Folks:
 
As I was looking at the tool bar of MS Word, I pressed 'track changes'
in order to see what I have deleted and inserted. Though this is a great
thing, I am now unable to see synonyms of words which I used to get
automatically if I press the applications button after selecting the
word for which I want meaning. When I press application button after
selecting the word now, I get things like 'track changes', 'reject
insertions', 'accept insertions', 'cut', 'copy' etc, but no 'synonyms'.
What to do and how to get back the original settings. I need this help
as early as possible, as I am sitting to finish some urgent work at
office.

sir,
I'm using canon printer and its working wonderfully well. As far as OCR is 
concerned my experience with Omni page is really good. The accuracy level is 
close to 95 %.

They are not only using cheque book for bills,
installment of loans, etc., but also for other
purpose. In other words, they are using this facility
for all purpose like sighted person uses.

With the cheque printing templates available at NABDelhi web site, cheques
can be used easily by any one. Having a cheque book can certainly be
beneficial. Although online payments etc. makes tasks easier too.

Hello friends.

I have a problem downloading the windows live mail for using the hotmail..
The setup file Which is (WL.exe) is downloaded, Btw when I install, the Mail 
does not get installed.. it downloads to 99%, and it just stops downloading any 
further..
That's it, it gives no error or anything.. and if checked the internet is 
connected and rest is working fine..
I am sure that those who have installed this windows live mail will surely be 
able to help me..
Can any one please help me?

Braille Study Mode


Braille Study Mode is a training tool for teaching and learning braille.

will
announce the braille character in a display cell when you press the
Cursor
Routing button immediately above that cell. When you press the Navrow
button
(located behind the Cursor Routing button), JAWS will announce and spell

Braille Study Mode is off by default. To start it, do the following:

1.  Make sure that a PAC Mate Portable Braille Display, FOCUS 40, or
FOCUS 80 braille display is attached to your computer.

*   Press CTRL+INSERT+B to open the Adjust Braille Options dialog
box,
or 

*   Press INSERT+V to open the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box. 

3.  Press S until Study Mode appears, and then press SPACEBAR to

A Blind Governor Adjusts, and So Does Albany 
By JEREMY W. PETERS

ALBANY — It is a phone number that just a handful of the governor's senior 
aides know.
At the end of each day they call in and record briefings, laying out what he 
needs to know about the following day. 
They recite his schedule, read talking points and explain the intricacies of 
issues likely to come up. They read memos from staff members and relate 
biographical details about the people he is likely to meet.
Lots of governors rely on thick briefing books and helpful e-mail notes from 
their staffs. New York's governor, David A. Paterson, who is legally blind, has 
his ears and what his aides call his Batphone.
Usually at night, in the Executive Mansion or at his family's home in Harlem, 
the governor listens to the recordings on the designated phone line. They run 
up to five minutes each and can pile up quickly, taking hours to absorb.
"Last night I had 43 messages, all of them five minutes in length," Mr. 
Paterson said in an interview. "That would be 215 minutes worth of material — 
over three hours." 
He stayed up that night from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. listening to the recordings, 
which covered everything from his prepared remarks for a press conference on 
energy to articles on economic growth in The Economist. But that was only 
enough time to get through half of them. 
To the general public, the transition to a governor who is legally blind has 
been almost imperceptible because Mr. Paterson, 53, acts in many ways like a 
person with 20-20 vision.
He does not walk with a cane or read Braille. He threw out the first pitch at a 
Mets game at Shea Stadium last week. And when he is in the Capitol's familiar 
stone and marble corridors, where he has worked for two decades, he walks at a 
brisk pace, slowing down only when an aide alerts him to someone approaching. 
But behind the scenes, Albany is a different place since Mr. Paterson was sworn 
in last month. With a blind man in charge — the governor can see nothing out of 
his left eye and only color and large objects out of his right — everything 
from speech preparation to the instructions for the staff at the governor's 
mansion has been custom-fitted to Mr. Paterson's needs.
"Now that he's governor, it's a whole new ball game," said Assemblyman Keith L. 
T. Wright of Harlem, who has known Mr. Paterson since they were boys.
Since he cannot read from a prompter, the governor tries to commit his speeches 
to memory, by listening several times to an aide's recording of the speech. 
Delivering an address just from memory can be nerve-racking.
"It's like a high wire," he said. "You trip, there's no net."
He travels with a phalanx of assistants, typically a half-dozen, including 
aides and bodyguards, who act as a buffer zone around him in large public 
settings, from hotel ballrooms to school classrooms. The bodyguards gently 
steer him, often with a hand on his back or arm, toward an exit or into a 
waiting vehicle.
At news conferences in the Capitol's ceremonial Red Room, it is not the 
governor but his press secretary, standing just to the side of the lectern, who 
calls on reporters, reminding them to state their names and affiliations before 
asking a question.
Glad-handing a crowd poses a challenge for Mr. Paterson because he cannot fully 
make out people as they approach him. So when his aides spot someone they 
recognize coming toward him, they tell him who it is. He instructs the aides 
not to whisper, but to speak in their normal tone of voice, because he wants 
the exchanges to appear as ordinary as possible.
Mr. Paterson, a Harlem Democrat who has been blind since infancy, has been 
making adjustments to his surroundings throughout his life. But, with the added 
demands of the job of governor and the relentlessness of his new schedule, 
staying on top of his work now takes a lot more time. He said much of his day 
can feel like a big game of catch-up. "I'm always trying to get back that time 
that I'm losing," he said.
Given the volume of material he must take in, he tries to find ways to do 
things faster. He listens to very long articles or books on a special tape 
recorder for the blind that plays at speeds so fast, it is difficult for others 
to comprehend. "You get used to listening to that Alvin and the Chipmunks 
voice," he said.
At the Executive Mansion, staff members have been trying to keep up with the 
needs of their new boss. They were instructed shortly after he moved in last 
month to watch the level of his drink during receptions and offer him a refill 
if it looked too low. He was still learning the layout of the house and could 
not find the bar easily.
Mr. Paterson has told the staff not to move any of the furniture in the 
40-plus-room home on his account, and has said that he will learn where 
everything is.

All candidates belonging to OBC Category must submit their caste certificate,

just open notepad
press control O to open a file,
browse the IPASBL.txt and enter to open
select all and copy to clipboard
from the programs menu
jaws9
explore
explore shared settings
browse the file of your working synthesizer, e.g.
eloq.sbl for the eloquence software,
open this file in notepad, if it didn't open just
select the program "notepad.exe" to open this .sbl
file

this file contains sections, suppose you will add your
symbols to the american english symbols then,
go down until the last symbol of the american english
section and then press enter for a new blank line.
paste the contents of the clipboard.
then add a symbol number to each line,
for example,
if the symbols you reached are symbol101,
then start adding symbol102, symbol 103 to the
beginning of each pasted line.
save the file and assure you have no eloq.sbl in your
local user folder so that jaws focuses on the shared
.sbl you modified.

sorry for the long description, it may be of some help
for others as well.

block of text to a certain procedure for the computer
to execute and come out with determined result.

finally, it is unforgetable to mention that syntax is
a general science under the category of linguistics,
but the part in syntax related to computers and

MONTREAL (AFP) - Arctic sea ice is melting "significantly faster" than
predicted and is approaching a point of no return, conservation group the
World Wildlife Fund (WWF) warned in a new study. 

 

 The volumes of the Greenland Ice Sheet and ice in the Arctic Ocean were
estimated at 2.9 million and 4.4 million cubic metres respectively in
September 2007 -- the lowest ever levels recorded, the organization said
Wednesday.

 

The sea ice shrank to 39 percent below its 1979-2000 mean volume, it said.

 

"Recently observed changes are happening at rates significantly faster than
predicted" by the 2005 Arctic Climate Impact Assessment (ACIA) and last
year's report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), WWF
said.

 

The melting of arctic sea ice and the Greenland Ice Sheet was happening so
fast that experts were now questioning whether the situation is close to
"tipping point," where sudden and possibly irreversible change takes place.

 

"When you look in detail at the science behind the recent Arctic changes it
becomes painfully clear how our understanding of climate impacts lags behind
the changes that we are already seeing in the Arctic," said Martin
Sommerkorn, one of the authors of the report.

 

The WWF will present its report, comprised of the latest research in the
region, to the meeting Thursday of the Arctic Council, which groups Canada,
Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and the United States.

 

The conservation group's researchers also warned of the devastating effect
the rapid melting of the arctic ice could have on polar bears in Canada,
where two thirds of the world's population of the animals live.

 

"Previous models had predicted that melting sea ice would mean some polar
bear populations could become extinct by 2050. The new evidence points to
even earlier regional extinctions," said Peter Ewins, director of species
conservation at WWF-Canada.

 

The Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada will present
the government with its estimates of the status of polar bears there on
Friday.

breaks and changing your posture, is important.

2) Change position of laptop at intervals If the
laptop is on your lap, consider switching its position
occasionally. Leave it on your lap for 30 minutes
to promote ideal wrist posture, then switch it to a
table to improve your neck position. If the laptop is
on your lap, raise its height with a pillow or
cushion, so that you don’t have to strain your neck.

3) sit on a couch It’s important to ensure that you
are not slouching while working on your laptop. 

4) Don’t carry too many laptop accessories Reducing
the number of peripherals you carry will reduce your
bag’s weight and the subsequent stress-and-strain
on your shoulders.

1) Try to keep your wrists in a neutral position (not
bent).

San Francisco: Microsoft has begun testing technology
that brings together a person’s pictures, documents
and other data scattered across a growing number
of machines with the goal of allowing people to access
their information from anywhere and at any time. 

Microsoft’s ‘Live Mesh’ program, which uses the
Internet as a data hub, synchronises files across
computers, phones and other devices so a digital
picture
frame at home could show a picture minutes after it
was taken by a cell phone.

Initially the program will be limited to 10,000
US-based testers and computers running its Windows
operating system, but Microsoft said it plans to
extend
Live Mesh over the next few months to mobile phones,
computers from Apple Inc and other devices connected
to the Internet.

The project is the brainchild of Ray Ozzie, who
replaced Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates as chief
software architect, and underscores the company’s
carefully
balanced online strategy, which aims to capitalise on
the reach of the Internet without cannibalising its
cash cow software business.

Live Mesh embraces the industry trend toward “cloud
computing” in which information is centrally stored on
Web sites rather than on local devices, giving
users easy access from any computer.

The software will also let friends and colleagues
collaborate and share documents more easily. For
example, if a shared document is changed on a work
computer,
those changes will be instantly updated and available
on any device or computer that the user has registered
with Live Mesh.

Microsoft plans to release Live Mesh in a
widely-available test, or “beta” version before the

London: Scientists are developing a new computer
system which they claim will be able to talk to human
beings by simply reacting to signals such as tone
of voice and facial expression.

A team at Queen’s University in Belfast is making the
computer, known as Sensitive Artificial Listener (SAL)
system, as part of a European project called
SEMAINE.

SAL will perceive a person’s facial expression, voice
and then engage with him in a discussion. When
engaging with a human, it will adapt its own
performance
and pursue different actions depending on the
non-verbal behaviour of the user.

“A basic feature of human communication is that it is
coloured by emotion. When we talk to another person,
the words are carried on an undercurrent of signs
that show them what attracts us, what bores us and so
on.

“The fact that computers do not currently do this is
one of the main reasons why communicating with them is
so unlike interacting with a human. It is also
one of the reasons we can find them so frustrating.

“SEMAINE and projects like it will change the way
people interact with technology. They mean that you
will be talking to your computer in 20 years’ time.

“These new developments depend on connecting
technology to the relevant understanding of people,
and it is recognised worldwide that we have a
distinctive
strength in bringing psychology, linguistics and
ethics to bear on the process of developing the new
systems.

“Today when we use technology we adopt a style of
communication that suits the machine. Through projects
like , SEMAINE, we will develop technology that
will eventually communicate in ways that suit human
beings,” lead researcher Prof Roddy Cowie was quoted
by the ‘ScienceDaily´ as saying.

SEMAINE is led by DFKI, the German centre for research
on Artificial Intelligence.

What made you start Project Gutenberg in 1971, and
what was the initial response?
EBooks/eLibraries just seemed to be the most natural
thing for the Internet when I first got on...you could
type in a book anywhere on the Net and anyone,
any time, anywhere, and the rest of history could get
it out, free of charge.

It took so little time, money and effort on my part,
well, ALL my time, money and effort, but compared to
what the result is, the cost-benefit ratio is
just amazing!

The initial response was about six per cent of all the
people I knew on the Net, which was larger than I
expected. Obviously, that first file has now been
downloaded, copied, re-edited, etc, by millions, if
not a billion readers.

How important is copyright today? Can we foresee a
world in which books are available without copyright?
The major purpose of copyright today is to keep people
from getting any information without paying for it.
This is even more true for me, here in the US,
than in India
where copyright terms haven't been extended so much. 

Here, I now have a copyright system: The Supreme Court
has ruled that copyright will be extendable as many
times, for as many years. That means Mickey Mouse
and Winnie The Pooh, etc will never go into the public
domain. Hundred years ago, about half of all
copyrights had expired; 100 years from now, not even
one per cent of copyright will have expired.

Since the publishers control copyright terms through
lobbies and the World Intellectual Property
Organisation (WIPO), there is no chance for your,
"world
in which books are available without copyright" unless
there are major, major changes.

Do you think Project Gutenberg will do for the
publishing industry what Apple's iTunes and even
Napster did for the music industry?
In the long run, I think Project Gutenberg will do
even more. I think eBooks will change civilisation the
way the Gutenberg Press created a revolution
in literacy and
education, the Scientific Revolution, and eventually a
brand new "Neo-Industrial Revolution" when computers
with printers that make 3-D solid object allowing
anyone to make anything.

Do you get writers approaching Project Gutenberg with
their works directly?
Yes, about 2 per cent of our eBooks are from
copyrighted sources. 

What does the future hold for Project Gutenberg?
A one billion eBook freely downloadable library.
Here's how:
There are about 25 million public domain books in the
world.
There are about 100 languages with a million plus
speakers.
If we do just 40 per cent of the books. . .that is 10

umm! very simple!
just go to the taskbar and start menu properties, press ctrl pluss tab to 
reach the start menu page. press tab again for the customize the start menu. 
press space on this button, then move around the buttens by tab, press it 
until you hear, "show on start menu in e mail combo box. in that combo box, 
choose the outlook express or whatever you would like to place on e mail. 
other way is, go to the internet properties, under the programs tab, choose 
internet e mail programs combo box, choose any email program you want to be 
as a default email program.

Go to the Properties of IE on the Desktop or the Options submenu under Tools
menu. Both are the same. Press ctrl+tab a few times until you reach
Programmes tab. Use the tab key for the Email option. It is a combo box
where you can use the up or down arrow keys to select OE. Activate the OK

Cheque book is really a contentious issue.  To my knowledge VI people issued
chequebook, could use only for bill/installment payments like electricity,
housing, etc. with prior verification seal from concerned banks.  You must
find out VI cheque users if they could use it for other than that?  If
former be the case, is it really useful to avail this facility for VI?
Instead, going for online fund transfer, billpayments with your user ID
PASSWORD IS more easier & foolproof.

Bankers have very befitting reason against providing the facility because
even the slightest mismatch evokes financial charges, & 'thumb impression'
can never be verified by the bank simultaneously while making payment to
establish the veracity of actual customer.  However, if it's that essential,
one can go for jt. ac with a sighted relative where chequebook is hundred %
permissible.  I am not a banker, hence it may not be an expert opinion but
that is what I have experienced.

[AI] Driver for an HCL PC.

Hello,

We have an HCL pc in our organisation's office. We had to reformat it recently. 
But we do not have any cd for the drivers. I have checked the HCL web site and 
sent them a request. In case there is no response, can you suggest any driver 
for it? I have tried several drivers from other CDs. It failed, however. The pc 
model number is AJ107427 with P3 processor of about 800 mhz speed and a RAM of 
64 mb. We have windows 98 SE installed on it. I do not know the manufacturer of 
the sound card. It was a branded pc.
