Re: [AI] mobile phone stolen.

2008-06-25 Thread Subramani L
A pathetic story indeed. Here in Bangalore too, when a friend of mine
(who is not a journalist) lost his mobile phone, he needed a
journalist's recommendation to register the FIR! So your assessment
seems right. Technology is unlikely to change the lackadaisical attitude
of our system.

Subject: [AI] mobile phone stolen.

Folks, yesterday only, while travelling in a busy blueline bus here in
Delhi, I lost my Nokia 6681 mobile phone instrument. It was stolen from
the front pocket of my laptop bag. Now my purpose to disclose the same
here on this list is only to justify what I had been maintaining
about those mails which, from time to time keep flooding our mailboxes,
that is, what we should do when our cell phone is lost. Let me tell you
emphatically that, be it your service provider or Nokia itself, nobody
seems to have any concern about your stolen phone. Even you would be
surprised to know that when I had gone to the nearest police station in
order to launch the FIR, first of all, they printed the IMEI number of
my phone wrong on the FIR sheet, this is notwithstanding the fact that I
gave the original bill to the lady who was writing my FIR report. When I
noticed this after coming back, I again went to the same police station
to get it rectified. They certainly confessed their mistake and
corrected the same in the copy that I was having, but they were not at
all concerned with rectifying the same in their record. IF the attitude
of the policemen is so reluctant and apathetic, I'm afraid what action
they'll take on their part! So no matter if one claims that we should
always keep our phone IMEI number safe in case the phone is lost, I'll
tell you nothing is going to come out at least here in India! Be it the
lack of technological expertise or the lack of will power, it is quite
impossible to get it back or to make it blocked as most of the mails
would claim!

Re: [AI] Making jaws to read subject line first

2008-06-25 Thread Dinesh Kaushal
Hi Rishi,

If you are using Microsoft Outlook 2003 (may be for other versions as well),
then change field order at view menu > Arrange by > Custom... > fields ...

This will bring up "Show Fields" dialog, and in this dialog there should be
"show these fields in this order" list box.

For Outlook express, use View menu > columns... Which shows "columns"
dialog, and the first list view captioned "column list" has all the columns,
use "move up" or move down" to change their position.

Regards
Dinesh

Re: [AI] List of games needed

2008-06-25 Thread prateek aggarwal
As you've asked about the sports a blind can play, I would like to
tell that we can play almost every sport which a cited person can
play. There is a number of sports apart from cricket.
Some of them are given below.

Goalball is a Paralympic sport and the premiere team sport for blind
and visually impaired athletes. It's a strategic, highly competitive,
3-on-3 indoor
game where teams try to score goals by rolling a ball past into the
other team's goal while the defense tries to block it. Bells inside
the ball enable
players to approximate its path and position.

In Japan, visually impaired people can play and enjoy volleyball for
the blind as a ball game sporting event for them. It was invented by
physical education
teachers in schools for the blind about 40 years ago and the tools and
rules of normal volleyball were modified so visually impaired people
could play
by themselves.

In USA, blind people also play judo with no difficulty.
For more information, please visit
www.JudoInfo.com

Did you know that blind people CAN play tennis in very nearly the same
way that anyone else does? It's a fantastic sport. And it's just
getting started.
Given the long history of tennis, Blind Tennis is a relatively new
sport. It was originally created by Miyoshi Takei in 1984 in Kawagoe,
Saitama prefecture,
Japan. At the time, Miyoshi was a blind high school student at the
Saitama Prefectural School For The Blind & Visually Impaired and he
had a dream to hit
a tennis ball which inspired him to creat it.

Beep baseball is played much like a traditional baseball game but with
a few changes.

Football is being played from a longer time. It's also played on
international level in B R A (blind relief association)

Golf is also very popular in many countries like USA, UK, etc.

A visually impaired can play water games too such as swimming. visit
www.infinitec.org/play/water/swimming.htm

Bascketball for blinds is popular in china.

This was about outdore games. There are many indore games too which a
blind person can play with full joy and eas.
These games including, cards, Chinese checkers, ludo, snake and
laders, video games, various computer games, etc.
Therefore, a visually impaired person can play almost every game which
a cited person can play. However, the work of making more sports
accessible for blinds is still continuing.

Unfortunately, the scope for a visually impaired player is very low in india.
Many sports described above are not available in our country.
Still we have not achieved anything in this field. So, just hope for
the best in near future.
Regards,
Prateek agarwal.

Dear Vikas
Its sad to loose such a wonderful socialising device with all that data that
you might have saved for so long. But you should immediately call up the
helpline of the service provider and get the sim blocked atleast and get
another sim issued.

[AI] problum facing by students of national association for the blind Delhi//

2008-06-25 Thread akhil thakur
Hellow friends,
We are the hostellers of national association for the blind studding in
11th and 12th standard suffering from the harassment by management of
our hostel.
They are not providing us hostel for our further studies from the first of July
With a reason that they do not have enough space in the hostel and
they have to give opportunity to small children " they have admission
brasher ect".
So they have made a rule according to witch they will not provide hostel
to the bois after 10th standard. And they have committed that, they
provide other facilities related to studies.
But from the last year they are not paying fee for some hostellers of
class above 10th, so this is not ensure that, they will help us in
concern of studies after removing us from the hostel.

But this is not a solution, most of the students among us, reside out
of Delhi and
also economically week from there families
If we escape out from the hostel we'll not able to continue our study.
We are only 9 boys in class 11th and 12th and they don't have space for us.

Also according to law, this rule can not be implementing on us because we are
pre-admitted students. The rule should be implemented for the newly
admitted children.

it is not true that, they do not have space
there are aprox 5 rooms beside the three rooms of senior boys in witch
peons and watchman's are residing with there families
generally we 10 students reside in one room,
For a moment if we considered that they do not have space,
So they have to provide that 5 rooms to the students
Witch are captured by watchman's, punes and there families.
5 rooms means approximately 50 children can be admitted.
According to the objectives of the association they have to give first profence
to the students in such a case.

another excuse to remove us, given by them is that,
they have received a letter from government counsel
according to witch they can't keep both girls and bois in the same premises.
How much truth in it? We don't know.
"But in the premises, rooms of senior bois are separated from the girls hostel".
This is also not a valid excuse.

A Pease of plot in Dvarika is given to them in 2002 by DDA.
And now they are telling us that, they will construct a building there for
bois hostel
"in the years from 2002 to 2007 they did not place a pease of brick there,
so how can they construct a building for us in a shorter period of time".

The real cause to remove senior bois from the hostel, under our
knowledge is that,

A lot of things are going there witch are against in the sake of blind children
And witch are opposed by the senior bois many times in the past
No action has not yet been taken by the management
While the management trying to escape out the senior boys since for
last 6 years.
Because management fully corrupted from the beginning to it's end.

Hostel need a new management witch works for blind children truly.

We appeal you to
Help us,
We are in deep depression,
We have to join our school from first of July,

To help us, or to give any opinion,
contact us on PHNO 9891450339 or

dear friends, in the mobile phone 15 digit international code numbers
are there, all the friends please note that numbers and complaint to
the distributer. then that mobile phone cannot use with any sim cord.
that will become like a toy phone.

Is it possible to scan statements, pass books and bills like medical
bills in AABBYY Fine reader 8? Are such materials readable? If so, kindly
throw some light on it.

Thanks in advance.

[AI] seeking members going to the access India convention from Delhi: considering group bookings

2008-06-25 Thread Pranav Lal
Hi all,

Could I please know who all would be going to the access India convention
from Delhi? I have been thinking that we should all book our tickets as a
single group and try to avail a group discount. If you could all give me
your names, I could do some checking in terms of air fares and get back to
you with the best price.

Please reply privately to this message. This would avoid cluttering
everyone else's mailboxes.
Pranav

it is good to know about latest update on daisy but what about
braille. do you know something about cheap and individual user braille
printer's availability which supports computers, so as to enable its
user to print research papers in braille without going to expensive
braille press or high quality printer.
can you also give some details as how to update talks for mobile and
whether kurzweil 1000 can support n72? instead of knfb reader?

some other indoor games that are well enjoyed. taga of war, kabaddi

Re: [AI] Window Eyes 7.0 Public Beta Released

2008-06-25 Thread dr.u.n.sinha narain
it is surprising to note that there is no dealer in India for the
same. All the more there is no comparison of jfw to windo eyes. jfw is
releasing its hindi version too perhaps in July this year. if so done
it will become king of all the screen readers. what is more needed is
bios reader for any blind computer reader. if some company could do so
then that day blind computer users will become the master of their own
computer. however that will require inbuilt speech synthesiser
compaitable to all computers windows without disturbing the windows to
run while they are in bios.
i hope that day will also come.
till then goodbye

Re: [AI] mobile phone stolen.

2008-06-25 Thread Syed Imran
I vaguely know how exactly this 15 digit thing works, but these days, where
passwords are being hacked, locking codes are being blown up (as if solving
an easier math problem), I wouldn't be surprised to know if any thief has
discovered a means of unlocking the IMEI number. One can't be so sure as to
say, "so and so person is no longer using my cell, because I have disabled
it.". What do you feel about insuring our expensive cellphones. Are they
really cost-effective?. Thank you Vikas, for telling us how your cellphone
was stolen.

Re: [AI] Regarding the electronic stick.

2008-06-25 Thread Shadab Husain
UltraCane + Folding Cane, 110 cm

UltraCane gives you the confidence to stride forward, knowing where
the obstacles are ahead. A mobility aid that gives you enough
informations about your
surroundings to help you make decisions quickly and naturally!

The ultrasound equipment and sensors are built in the handle of the
cane. Two small buttons are connected to the two sensors and will show
any obstacles
by vibrations (which also differ to indicate the distance). The two
sensors point in differnet ways, ensuring that obstacles right in your
way are as well
indicated as obstacles in your head and chest area (like the rear
view mirrors of a bus for example).

UltraCane is extremely easy to handle and will only need a short
training period.

The folding cane itself is covered with reflective foil, withstands
considerable use and folds into 4 pieces. Dimensions: 33 cm (when
folded).

Price: 998.00 Euro

[AI] Your address may soon be a 6-digit number

2008-06-25 Thread sweety.bhalla
Your address may soon be a 6-digit number

BS | June 25, 2008 | 02:50 IST

Locating an address using mobile global positioning system (GPS) will soon
require you to key in just a six-digit code.Officials say the postal department
is working on "Pin-Plus," a new pin code that will give the exact location of a
house or an office. The code will help companies sort out mails between
different departments and make delivery of bulk mails much easier. The present
code, officials say, identifies only the post office and the exact point
of delivery is identified through hand-written addresses, which at times are
not legible or are in a language the postman cannot understand. The first
two digits of the "Pin-Plus" code are being implemented across the country.
These help identify the postman on the beat and help the postman know which
mails he has to deliver. However, officials say only a few companies are using
the system. The last three digits, which the department is still working
on, will indicate the exact point of delivery."This will help provide faster
emergency services as the time spent on locating the premises will come down
sharply," said a senior official in the Department of Posts. However, the last
three digits are still at the research stage. "Such a service requires an
active database which will take some time to be compiled. We will collaborate
with bulk users, for example, telecom service providers like BSNL, to utilise
their database, which can then be used for the census as well," said the
official.Though the service is targeted mainly at corporate customers, the
department
has allocated Rs 10 crore to market it for personal mailers. The department is
also mulling providing incentives to corporate users. "We will push for
the new code and may make its mandatory for bulk mailers. We can also look at
ways to incentivise the service by offering discounts," he said. The official,
however, clarified that "this is not a substitute to mailing addresses but is
meant to improve efficiency and to avoid confusion over postal addresses."The
department, as part of efforts to increase its efficiency, is also planning to
install machines for faster sorting out of letters in post offices. The
official said 26 major cities would be equipped with these machines soon. "New
Delhi and Kolkata will be able to use these machines by the middle of next
year," he said. One machine will be able to sort about 40,000 mails in an hour.
Tenders for the machines have been invited and the project is expected to be in
advanced stages by the end of 2009.

Regards
Dinesh

Re: [AI] problum facing by students of national association for the blind Delhi//

2008-06-25 Thread SC Vashishth
The point raised by the petitioners regarding the accommodation seems to be
valid, however, putting management in the opposite box may not be right
especially when these students have been staying there for a long time and
have done their studies with support of the NAB Delhi management.

I feel the Government has an important role to play here. In Delhi we have
severe crunch for hostels for the blind young adults - Girls
specially. Though there is a hostel in DU for boys, there exists none for
girls and we have seen in the recent past, how these hapless girls face
exploitation and physical abuse in order to continue their studies in
privately run hostels.

Its high time that the Government of Delhi provides for sufficient hostels
for Blind Girls and Boys. Regarding circumstances in which management of NAB
Delhi is working, i would not know much, hence no comments.
regards
SC Vashishth

Re: [AI] seeking members going to the access India convention fromDelhi: considering group bookings

2008-06-25 Thread Amit Bhatt
Dear Pranav,

This would be a great idea. Even similar thought was there in my mind too.
But, I think there should be more than 10 members in a group to avail group
discount, however, we can avail check fair discount even we'd have less than
10 members in the group.
Now question is whether all the members from Delhi do like to go by air? I
have a doubt!
Anyways, members from Delhi or around should go all together either by
flight or Train so we can enjoy the journey in a group.
We need to co-ordinate with each other to plan out our program. I am also
going to attend this convention in all likelihood. Let us wait for the final
proclamation to be made by Mr. Harish and let me see my timing and schedule
and then I will catch you over the phone.

Thanks,

Amit Bhatt
