2009-06-01 Thread Srinivasu
Hi,

All who follow e-mail etiquettes, please ignore this email - not for you!

Usually, I write off-list to the person who is appropriate but I'm now write
here so that some of the new members will be benefited.

While forwarding any email to list or even to some one (like below email
posted by Manoj Gupta), please take a couple of minutes and delete all the
recipients addresses from the body text. This not only make screen reader
users get irritated, but publishing so many emil IDs (which are belong to
some one else) on web thus offering an helping hand to spammers :-)

Best,
Srinivasu

[AI] Looking for an accommodation in Noida and my hello to everyone.

2009-06-01 Thread moiz tundawala
Dear All,
I am Moiz, a student of law based in Kolkata. I was a subscriber some
time back, and it gives me immense pleasure to rejoin the list. My
thanks to Mr. Kotian to be kind enough to accommodate me once again.
My hello to all old friends and aquaintences out here. Hope everyone’s
doing good.
Now coming to the problem part of the post. I will be interning at
Anand and Anand, a law firm based in Noida sometime in June. The
problem is that I’m not mobile and I don’t have an accommodation as of
now. I would be highly obliged if you could suggest something. Where
can I have a suitable accommodation? Are there any specialized
organizations providing lodging/hostel facilities in the Noida area
for the blind/visually impaired?
I would ideally want an accommodation close to Noida, or otherwise
commuting daily may get problematic. Can I get an escort somewhere who
can drop and pick me from my work place. The thing is that I have had
no mobility training, and Delhi is completely alien to me. I know
things may appear difficult for starters, but I wish to still pursue
the internship. We try out a lot of things, and not everything goes
according to plan. But if it does work out, I shall treat it as a
personal achievement of some sort.
I did write to Mr. George Abraham sir off the list in this regard, and
he did have a few things to say. Is there anything more that I can
have from the list?
Best and regards,
Moiz.

[AI] restrict access of your drive/files/folders

2009-06-01 Thread prateek aggarwal
a few days back, one of the access India member has asked me that can
we lock drives and even deny it’s access for users other then she
herself?
The question seemed nice, and though I’ve answered her just after I
read her mail, but thought to carve up the same with you folks as
well, as many of you might be looking for something like this whether
consciously or unconsciously.
Suppose you having a computer with 2-3 users, how would you feel if
other users looks all the data of your E drive where you’ve stored
whole your confidential stuffs?
For sure it’s not a delightful experience, and it’s better to look some way out.
If you have ever dreamt to deny the access of your drive or even to
any particular file or folder for all the other users without having
inconvenience of probing for different ineffective softwares, then
this post can surely prove detonation.
So, how to protect your files/ folders/ drives from illicit use?
Well, it’s easy, actually very easy.
Just follow the below steps.
Note:make sure that you are using NTFS before proceeding.
1. Choos and select the drive/file/folder on which you want to apply protection.
2. Click property or simply press alt+enter.
3. Go to the view tab.
4. Go to the tree view,
5. Mark checkbox of “use simple file sharing”
6. Press apply button.
7. Done.
(in some systems you may get a dialogue box after pressing enter on
apply button, please enter ok on that if it comes)

so you no longer need to be beleaguer about drives files or folders
to be seen by other users.
Now, store anything, hide nothing.

the visually challenged can do all jobs but the reality is that NGOs and
prospective employees need to show the prospective employers a list of people

In hindsight we have always found that it was always best to answer my giving

For the last 3 months Zainab a young assistant has been doing all the work. She
sends you the database form in exel and word and she telephones you if she has

She also needs to update the information that she already has. She ultimately
spends several hours of her day and my resources doing this work and XRCVC will

do not have the time to reply to a Word/Excel file.

Yes you can resume your downloads. For that you have to install
download manager like “Internet download manager”, “Free download

which is absolutely free. Visit

To download the above software. But please remember that, some of the
sites wouldn’t allow resume the downloads. But don’t worry, Freedom

Hi folks !

Glad indeed to inform you that our otherwise shy and
invisible friend, Shashikala, has been awarded the Big Dipper Award at
the Annual Day celebrations of Aditi Technologies, Bangalore, two days
back by the company's CEO.

She has been conferred this honour for her excellent
performance and superlative commitment during a particularly difficult
period for the company. Shashikala, who completes 3 years in Aditi this
month, is a product of Mitra Jyothi and Enable India and is the only
person from her functional group - HR - to get this award.

Her commendable achievement has to be seen in the
background of massive, though non-quantified and unreported, lay-offs
across the IT industry, and the impact it could have had on the careers
of our visually challenged friends. Congrats, Shashi, you have made all
of us proud...

Please send your appreciative messages / best wishes to

Subject: [AI] Add more memory to your computer

Subject: Add more memory to your computer
If your computer seems slow, now's the time for additional RAM

I used to have the dining room table all to myself. Taxes, Christmas
cards, birthday gift-wrap, household bills-I would spread out until the
job was done.
Nowadays, with one child drawing pictures, another doing homework, and a
third fiddling with Lite-Brite, I'm relegated to a tiny corner-if that
much. Often I put off tasks until everyone has gone to bed and even then
I'm hard-pressed to meet the breakfast deadline. Of course, I could expand
the table...
It's much the same with computers. If the hard drive is the filing cabinet
in which you store your documents, then memory, or RAM (random access
memory), is the table you work on. The easiest way to get more space is to
add extra leaves.
There comes a time when there's just not enough RAM. Everything is working
fine, then you add photo-editing software, surf to a graphically intense
Web site, install a game, and suddenly your computer can't keep up.
If the drive light is flickering like crazy, then it's probably time to
install more memory. But before you unplug the cables, lug the machine to
the car, drive to the computer store, wait to have RAM installed, and pay
a minimum of $25 for the service, consider installing RAM yourself.

Determine how much RAM you have and how much you need
Before you make any purchases, you need to know how much memory you have
and what type of memory to buy.
To see how much RAM is in your PC, go to the Start menu, click Settings,
and then click Control Panel. Click System and then select the General
tab. At the bottom of the page you should see the amount of RAM.
Most games will specify the minimum amount of RAM you need to install them
and play. For example, Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Azkaban requires
256 MB. This amount includes RAM that the computer needs to do its own
background work as well as to run the game.
Jimmy Ritchie, tech lead at Future Shop, says that the amount of RAM you
need depends on the operating system you are using. For Windows 98, 128 MB
to 256 MB is more than enough. For Windows XP, the more the
merrier-depending on what you're doing, he says. If you're just surfing
the Internet and writing letters, you need 256 MB to 512 MB. If you're
gaming, the sky's the limit, says Ritchie, which means anywhere from 512
MB to 1 GB RAM (extreme gamers will need even more). You'll also need more
RAM if you're using a lot of applications at the same time, such as
desktop publishing and video rendering.

RAM modules can be purchased in 128 MB, 256 MB, and 512 MB sizes.
Figure out what type of RAM you require
To determine the maximum amount of RAM your computer can handle as well as
the speed, consult your PC's owner's manual, which should show you the
number of slots (the place where you insert the RAM), how much each can
take, and the maximum your system can use.
Contact the manufacturer or use an online memory advisor, such as the one
from Crucial Technology or Kingston Technology, that will tell you which
products work with your system.
To find out what kind of module you will need, you can also open up your
computer.

1.
First, turn off the computer, but leave it plugged in, because then it's
automatically grounded, explains Ritchie. (Computers that should not
remain plugged in will be clearly marked.)

2.
Place the computer on a clean workspace and remove the cover carefully
(you may need to use a screwdriver).

3.
Touch the case to ground yourself. If you've got a static charge then you
won't once you've touched the case, says Ritchie. (Although some manuals
recommend anti-static wrist straps, Ritchie says that this is not
necessary for home users.)

4.
Locate the RAM modules, which are green with black tubes, on the
motherboard.

5.
Now determine the type of module you have. It's all in the look of the
slot, explains Ritchie.
. RDRAM is paired up (you have to put in two at a time) and has metal
casing on one side;
. DDR SDRAM is the most popular and looks like regular RAM, but has one
notch;

. SDRAM (which is being phased out) has two notches.
6.
Also note your RAM speed, which is usually written on the side of the
existing chip (either 266 or 333).

7.
If you don't have a free slot, remove one of the memory cards to check the
number of notches on it. You'll be replacing the smaller of the two RAM
modules.

Install your new RAM
1.
Turn off the computer and touch the metal casing.
2.
Locate the RAM modules. Find the empty one you plan to replace, or remove
the RAM module you will replace.

3.
Line up the notches of the new RAM module and apply firm pressure

[AI] skype info with your kind permission

2009-06-01 Thread soloman s
hello access indians! greetings to you all! hope you find this info useful.
 From:    Doug Lee
d...@dlee.org
 To:
skypeengl...@emissives.com

Exciting news here, news I have been waiting to share for months!  I
have a fair amount to say, so here's a summary:  There is a new and
more accessible Skype 4.1 public beta out, and there are scripts to go
with it.  I will first describe the Skype beta, then the scripts for
 it.

 Details:

We have a public beta of Skype 4.1, and there are accessibility
features in it!  Accessibility is still an ongoing project, but as you
will see, some of the problems are fixed, and others are promised
before the next full Skype release.

 Notes on Skype 4.1 itself:

Skype 4.1 beta contains accessibility improvements, including

 - More items in tab order.

 - More items with meaningful names.

 - The Accessibility submenu of Tools again, with Extended Keyboard
 Navigation under it.

As an example, you can now set mood text just by tabbing to the proper
control in the main Skype window, pressing Space, editing your text,
 and pressing Enter.

In addition, I spot the following commitment in the Skype release
notes, which is a publicly accessible document:  Under Known Issues:

Voicemail and File transfer not accessible:  this will be fixed for 4.1
 Gold.

So although that is not fixed now, we finally have a promise from
Skype that it will be fixed when Skype 4.1, not beta, comes out.

You can get the beta either by going to
http://www.skype.com
, then
Download, then Beta versions of Skype, or by going directly to the
 following link:

http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/windows/beta/

From that page, no matter how you got there, use the Download Now
 link to get the program.

The technical info for this version, from that page:

Version 4.1.0.130 File size 22 MB. Beta release. Release date: May 27,
 2009. File name: SkypeSetup-Beta.exe

One warning:  After clicking I agree Install button in the
installer, another page will appear, probably silently, with a
checkbox asking permission to install Google Chrome.  This is much
like the Install the Google Toolbar option we've seen in older
Skypes.  It may default to checked, so I recommend tabbing around and
unchecking that box if you don't want Google Chrome, which is a
browser whose accessibility is unknown to me.  The Skype installer
will remember your setting for that checkbox in future, but it's
always a good idea to watch for it.

 Now, about the scripts:

There is a new script set posted at

http://www.dlee.org/skype/

for Skype 4.1 beta.  It will probably also work with Skype 4.0, though
I have not tried that recently.  I am calling this version 4.1a,
meaning the first Skype script release for Skype 4.1.

NOTE:  I recommend restarting JAWS once after installing these
scripts, because the names of a number of global variables have
changed, and the old ones can only be cleared out of memory by a JAWS
 restart..

The rest of this message will describe new features of the scripts.

 First, user-visible changes:

A double JAWSKey+F1, the standard command for accessing JAWS
script help documents, will take you to an online page at my web site
describing how to use Skype 4.1 with the scripts.  This feature is
long overdue, and though I'm sure the online documentation is in need
of updating, it is at least a central starting point, better than
having to fish for info among all the release notes for the various
 Skype script releases.

F2, typed from within a conversation, will turn on and off JAWS'
announcement of timestamps with text messages, if you have enabled the
display of timestamps in Skype itself.  This is similar to how F2
works in AIM.  The virtual display of text messages will also be
 affected.

Alt+Numpad5 will now say the position of the current message in
 addition to its contents.

Users that sometimes heard nothing when backspacing in a text message
input box should now hear characters as usual.  This script update
fixes a few possible causes of that problem.

JAWS 9 no longer beeps on arrows, SayLine, etc., in the History list.
The History list is also more appropriately named (perhaps not in
 Braille though).

JAWS auto-announces questions like the one about holding the current call
to make a new one.  Also, Ctrl+Shift+E deals with that window instead
of the Accounts panel when it applies.  Controls in such a box can now
be reached with the Tab key, as Skype itself made this possible.

Double Ctrl+numbers no longer switch to the JAWS cursor and restrict it.
A double Ctrl+6 focuses the profile area, and it also works in more
 windows.

If you leave the new Chrome menus in effect in Skype, the scripts will
try to make them speak.  Turning these off is still recommended
 though.

If you open the Help/About box and try to move to another window or
application without first closing it, the scripts will close it for
you to keep it from interfering

Well, why I’ve written this in association of a previous one, is
because this one is associated with that previous post, and I felt
that I have perhaps forgot to mention about an important thing in the
same context.
After doing whole stuff mentioned in the previous post, go to the
properties and there in security tab.
There you have various permissions to set according to your
requirements as for who you want to have access or deny, what
permission the other users can have, and so on.
you having different options in form of comboboxes and checkBoxes.
there are permission as, allow full access, deny full access, allow
read, deny read, allow read and execute, deny read and execute, allow
writing, deny writing, etc, etc etc.
Set them accordingly, and then press enter to have full power over on
your system.
Remorseful for isolating it in two illogical pieces.

a few days back, one of the access India member has asked me that can

The question seemed nice, and though I’ve answered her just after I
read her mail, but thought to carve up the same with you folks as
well, as many of you might be looking for something like this whether
 consciously or unconsciously.
Suppose you having a computer with 2-3 users, how would you feel if
other users looks all the data of your E drive where you’ve stored
 whole your confidential stuffs?
For sure it’s not a delightful experience, and it’s better to look some way
 out.
 1. Choos and select the drive/file/folder on which you want to apply
 protection.

Re: [AI] Looking for an accommodation in Noida and my hello to everyone.

2009-06-01 Thread pamnani
Moiz,
Congratulations on getting this internship. To some extent IP is good for
the visually challenged. You will also have to check out how you will deal
with logos, marks, signs etc.
Even if you have a few days before going to NOIDA please start mobility
training in Calcutta.
Also NOIDA is quite big so you will have to specify in which sector of NOIDA
is your office.
Just go for it everything else will work out.
Best of luck

Subject: [AI] Looking for an accommodation in Noida and my hello to
everyone.

Dear All,
I am Moiz, a student of law based in Kolkata.
Best and regards,
Moiz.
